I do. I use SDR's though.Listening to the loons on 80 meters atm.

What's a good SDR for 40/80m? I've been using the RTL-SDR v3 dongle with a dipole antenna but I can't really receive anything. Is the receiver shit or is it the antenna?

I only use sw to listen to reviewbrah. We're gonna buy a new radio soon. Good times. Cheers, friend.

Using this combo to listen to SW in bed sometimes.
Otherwise it serves me as a portable SW QRP on mountain tours. Using a self made dipole.

>tfw I blew over $100 on a radio and get only static, spanish shit and preachers.
Is there anything out there to listen to at this point?

What would be a good RTLSDR antenna for 80-150mhz?

You need a large antenna if you want to get a decent amount of stations. If you use the telescopic antenna, you are not going to get shit. And even if you are using some meters of cable, if you live in a urban area, there's going to be too much noise.

the funniest thing i hear on 80 meters is these "so called" brilliant ham radio operators start praying to god as if they were in church, fucking idiots think there is a god listening, (grown men praying to god as if they were writing letters to santa claus)

evolution proves adam & eve never existed which means there is no "original sin" which means jesus never existed,

god is a myth, the bible is fiction and religion si bullshit

based and redpilled

Semitic myths are for retards.

>evolution proves adam & eve never existed which means there is no "original sin" which means jesus never existed,
>god is a myth, the bible is fiction and religion si bullshit
Holy shit.

great argument, that picture does a lot to prove your point too

There is no argument, just pointing and laughing at a triggered neckbeard who complains about things other people do on a Scottish rifle restoration forum. Old man HAM really touched a nerve didn't he kiddo.

you're doing great, awesome memeing bro, you're totally destroying that heathen

> he doesn't know how the post counter works.
Thanks for playing.

But other people have other opinions about that. So what?
What was your point?

other opinions?>

EVIDENCE PROVES IT,

giving religious myth any credence is like saying their ignorance is as good as your knowledge

fuck that noise, religion deserves all the criticism and ridicule you can heap on it,

M'LADY

> Evidence proves it
> doesn't provide evidence

I can't give you any credence for stating that you absolutely know there is no god, while still having no proof that can support your claim.
You BELIEVE there is no god, because it doesn't fit into your mindset or you are one of these LGBT faggots that want to do nasty stuff with minors and want to self declare having moral grounds for your actings.

Give me a reliable source that has proven rocksolid that god does not exist. Otherwise piss off and move your opinions to LGBT where it belongs.

fuck that noise, LGBT leftism deserves all the criticism and ridicule you can heap on it,

I have the pl360. What's the difference between it and the 365? Should I upgrade?

How good is the built in Morse decoder?

The PL-365 has SSB and it covers the full SW spectrum (the 360 lacks some bands).

If you only want to listen to international broadcasts, the 360 is completely fine. But if you want to listen to HAMs and such you need a radio with SSB.

What are some good number stations to listen to?

HF is based but the shorter the wave gets the more boomers you have that key down for an hour at a time talking boomer shit. Too bad I love DX and am addicted to CW QSOs because I hate most Amateur Operators. We need more fresh blood in this hobby.

I don't do morse that often so i can't really tell you about my long term experience, but what i can say is that if the frequency is clean, the decode is pretty good and only minor erros occur.
But it gets complicated when you happen to have beeeep tones and noisy stuff like popping in the background while decodning morse.
What i also experienced is that on some frequencies (forgot the exact ones) the device itself disturbes it's own signal reception. I guess it has to do with the internal processor and the PLL.
But otherwise i am pretty satisfied and since i use the px3 waterfall, i can always see where the traffic is. It spares me from scrolling the fuck out of that little thing.
A real SHTF rig while being on the run.
I use it with a motorcycle gel accu and the combo is yet the lightest one i have used so far.
There's a chinese ripoff, but i can't tell you how good this is compared to my Elecreaft.

Cheapest way to assemble radio to transmit

Move. Or you could radiate 12 gauge buckshot.

>We need more fresh blood in this hobby.
Back in the day a lot of us got the license while serving in signal service. It wasn't much advertised but it ensured steady recruitment.

The problem why it is so hard to get young people into HAM radio stuff is because of their smartphones. they can video talk to people on the opposite side of this planet and a lot more with a device fitting in their hands and only needing a power adaptor once a day. While Ham radio stuff needs a fuck ton of equipment in order to reach out to people and then, it's not even secured you can talk to your aussiebro while sitting somewhere in Swizerland or elswhere.
Most people arent even allowed to set up antennas on their roofs and stuff.
Money is also a big issue and motivating young people to spend a lot of money in HAM radio stuff, that easily gets outcompeted by a 60 shekels chink smartphone is a hard match i can say.
They rather buy a new smartphone or buy a playstation and a 4K flatscreen TV for the shekelz.

The downfall of HAM radio began when cell phones came up and normie s got internet at home (instant messengers and stuff).
Every single shekel can only be spend one time. And if you have to buy a computer or smartphone in order to communicate with the most of your bunch, then there are no money left for HAM radio stuff that eventually could lead you into an exciting hobby.
And most people don't have such high priorities on communication redundancy, as if they could get motivated to spend money on HAM radio equipment besides their computers.

Not sure about that money argument, a modern iPhone costs far more than a ham station.

reviewbrah is that you?

You didn't know your brain has a wireless connection to an all knowing oracle?
Life's gonna suck for you when the server comes back up and you're one of the sad sacks that never installed the driver

Believe it or not, but I've been seeing a disturbing increase in the number of conservative atheists on 80 meters. How do you justify Bible based philosophies without God?

I use a SDRPlay RSP1A and SDRUno with a homemade dipole. I routinely hear well into Russia on 20 meters, most of South America on 15 meters, and a mixed bag on the other bands depending on the conditions. I live in New England, if that helps to visualize the range I'm talking about.

priyom.org/

my boomer uncle has been trying to get me into it for years. of course, that's his only hobby. he has a loop antenna around his whole property, a dipole(?) on a 50ft tower, and even a front-loader battery as his "clean" power source.

i'm partially interested as an EE and been doing more RF-related things at work, but i'd rather spend my money on other useless shit that doesn't require a license.

Slightly off-topic, but what kind of radio would be most suitable to receive local stations during overland travel?

Is there a benefit to have anything beyond a simple FM receiver?

kek

>receive local stations during overland travel
If you want to hear local stations, you will only be able to do that with an AM radio. During the night, AM waves propagate way beyond their intended territory. With a Tecsun PL-360/365 and a Tecsun AN-100/AN-200 loop connected to it, you would be able to hear quite a bit.

I interpreted your question as if you wanted to receive the stations from your area when you are travelling abroad. Sorry if that's not the case.

There is no downfall to HAM bro. The waves are there for us to manipulate. Smart typically white folks will always utilize available technology.

I was indeed talking about radio in the areas I'd be travelling through.
Still, thanks anyway.

It depends on where you are planning to travel. Most developed countries are already using digital radio formats, like DAB. Some are currently using DAB and FM. Some still have MW stations. In Europe, there's also a longwave band with mostly French stations.

There's also the classic shortwave band that, although almost deprecated, still has dozens of international stations.

>shortwave.

Yes, but after it's bought, how much motivated will a youngster be if you tell him to invest furthermore money in a SW station, power supply, antenna, cable and stuff?
I actually talked to young people trying to explain the fun that HAM radio brings and they all said: "but i can reach all my people around the world without all this equipment needed.
They simply didn't get the fun point of experimenting and challenging the conditions on the band in order to reach out

I know, but they get less people for every generation that goes.

There's no way I'm buying expensive hardware just to listen to old people talking about the weather.

These are useless filth and will willingly dive into a wood chipper. That said, it's not completely a lost movement. Analog is coming back.

Soooooo you don't buy news papers, cable tv, internet connection, listen to radio, OTA tv, stream, blog, post, buy Chinese shit tier hardware to accomplish your shit posting on the chans?!!! Piss off kike!

What are you talking about? How is any of that related to not wanting to blow thousands of burgercoins in shortwave equipment? It's not even a good analogy, as if computers are only used to shitpost. Do you also happen to actually work and earn money with your computer?

Also,
>buying newspapers
>watching cable tv
>watching ota tv
>listening to fm radio
>calling other people kikes on the internet

In that case you sure need to step up your game:

Planning to go from Europe to Asia, just checked out that all countries I pass through have some FM stations in major cities, so taking a small radio sounds like a fun way to experience another aspect of local culture.

I'll take some cheap pocket FM radio that I got for free, just in case the North Korean authorities feel the need to confiscate it.

/comfy/ as fuck

If that's the case, I would take a cheap multiband radio like the Tecsun R-9012 with me. Having AM is nice, since you would be able to get stations in rural areas, and in Asia AM is still widely used for broadcasts.

If you go to North Korea they might confiscate it, since shortwave radios might be banned. I wouldn't try to take it there so as to not end up in a gulag.

The Degen DE13 is $20, has FM, AM and SW, and can be powered with AAA batteries, solar power, a hand crank or electricity.

It also has a flashlight and a siren, and you can charge other devices like your cell phone with it. It would be pretty comfy for travelling.

Really seems like a comfy device, I guess it's sold under different names by different sellers.

Yes, there are Voyager, Kaito and Degen models. Probably more.

there is enough evidence to fill libraries and museums,

there is ZERO evidence of any gods existing

are you using a full size or half wavelength dipole or something smaller?

The smartsphone only works when they allow it to work. When the SHTF it will be dark.
A radio, antenna and battery allows you complete control of what you transmit and recieve.

Boomer general?
Boomer general

Ironically, the best way to get into listening, is to buy Chinese shit hardware like DVB dongles and baofengs.

>A radio, antenna and battery
To recieve the entire spectrum in all modes:
The radio could be a $25 dollar USB SDR.
Free software to interface with any computer.
The antenna could be a length of wire.
Any source of 12 volts DC, from a car battery to a wall wart will power your station.

I know this as a HAM radio operator. But if you tell it to young people, they simply take it for granted the system will be up and running forever.

>there is ZERO evidence of any gods existing
A good friend of mine lives in Monterey California, while i live in Europe.
This friend of mine never entered the continent of Europe. So in my house, there isn't a single evidence that this guy exists.

You can't say god doesn't exist, just because you haven't found any evidence of him yet.
The absence of evidence of god existing isn't a proof on Gods absence itself.

I can't say for sure that he does or does not exist until have proven it wether or not.

You can say the same thing about any mythical creature.

Yes, but this very fact doesn't prove me wrong.
The point is that everything is possible, until it is evidently not.

If I could get rid of QRM where I live...
Only when power goes off (that means when idiots hit a pole with their cars or trucks) a I can get decent reception.

Tried an antenna with directivity?

Fucking autists
no one gives a shit about your crap radios
>when SHTF
Nice roleplay sperg

>stop enjoying things I don't like

I like em, but don't pretend this is more than a permavirgin nerd hobby

hurrr comfyyy

not going to happen while you need to pay for licenses when the internet is free

Didn't know that the guys in the army, the german spy that received an encrypted message yesterday thanks to a numbers station or the guys that send messages to the International Space Station were "permavirgin" hobbyist nerds.

>no one gives a shit about your crap radios
You just did.

got 'em

>tips fedora
What do you expect to get out of this?
Are you thinking you'll awaken the "fools" to your knowledge and that by acting like babbies first aethiest you'll some how gain anything?
Had you maybe said we don't need god or did anything to prove that you aren't a follower of the new false god Science you might have been above ridicule.
The truth is that you rely on truth the same way others rely on god. You were so close to being owned and controlled by only yourself, but you decided to become a slave of a new lie.
Morons like you are noise you distract any real intelligent discussion and disrupt order without any aim nor anything to gain.
You are a waste.

I don't know man... For it feels like Christianity (for example) is made up by human beings...
Humans always had mythical creatures to explain world.
Why Christianity can't be another step? Instead of explaining rain and thunder, we explain existence, 'evil' and 'good' concepts and non-existence.

I'm not arguing there is no God, not am I arguing there is. But religions and man-made gods are made up stories out of ignorance.

Hahaha I love you.
