t420

Anything laptop built prior to 2011.

I wish Linus was my dad

I have this one and it's /comfy/, but I am too much of a brainlet to coreboot it and it has the Intel ME botnet. I wish I had bought a T60 instead.

Linux is a kernel. It's used in operating systems.

just buy comfy bullshit yet cool laptop like dell xps 13 with 16gb ram and 1080p (they make 4k touch crap also) and be happy

you will buy a new laptop in a few years anyway so fuck it

and yes im missing the good old days where you could modularize your laptop but i also like todays laptop with 10+ h battery which are thin as fuck

lenovo t60

How are the system 76 laptops?

2012 era Dell Latitudes are nice cheap machines.
I got myself an i5 E6230 for about £200, wireless works with the Linux firmware package as well, no proprietary drivers needed.

Get a X60 if you want an easily librebuttable laptop. T60 if you can be sure about it having the intel GPU.

Dell XPS 13.

You realize System 76 don't make their own laptops, and just slap their badge on Clevos right? They are bargain basement pajeet trash, don't bother.

Ah oke. And Purism?

They are overpriced for the specs so it's more about supporting their ideology

x220 and x230
t420 and t430

x230 and t430 have better integrated intel gpu (4000 vs 3000) and a slightly better cpu. However they have chiclet keyboards, alot of people prefer the classic keyboard thag x220 and t420 come with. You can install the classic keyboard on x230 and t430, but you need to flash the embedded controller to get almost all keys working.

X-series is more portable, on T-series you can swap the cpu and get 4 core ones, since it's socketed.

Also suggest trying to find IPS panel laptops.

After the 3rd generation intel changed the mobile processors (e.g. 3520M) to ultrabook processors (e.g. 4500U). They don't generate heat as much and use less power, however the performance also dipped. It is preferred to get the older mobile processors, because the performance. The thermals are not bad and they usually last on battery long enough. Get ultrabook intel cpu if you have the money for 8th gen however, since they got a huge performance bump.

dont' read this this and stop buying obsolete tech.

I didn't quite get that

How are either of those obsolete?

ThinkPad A485 (Ryzen 5 Pro)
