If a company released an updated version of the original iPhone that cost $99 for release in 2027, would anyone buy it or would it be DOA?
By updated: the same functionality but updated with modern tech (i.e. web browser, 4G), a few UI enhancements, original icons etc and more up-to-date (but not cutting edge) hardware design.
The hardware has undoubedly progressed, the software has just got worse because no-one bothers optimising shit now the hardware is good enough.

>software is more demanding Excluding games, functionalities are the same than 10 years ago, the only thing that changed is the botnet bloat running in the background

So a 4G iPod touch for a third of the cost?
People might buy it.

Considering the fact that I'd buy a "new" iphone se, probably a lot of people

Phones struggled to even render trivial shit smoothely. I‘m not sure what your autistic quest here is. If by lack of progress in phones you mean that they don‘t have built in coffee makers and toasters, then yes they haven‘t progressed. Otherwise they absolutely did.
Levi Cruz
Pretty much, but it would have limited functionality, so no apps etc.
The idea is that it would be pitched as a "Classic iPhone" as a cheat way to convince people to buy into a new low-cost low-end phone OS.

Jesus, are you literally 14? People downloaded ringtones and porn pics over WAP in early 00s while you were still swimming in someone‘s balls.
Chase Perez
I was there and WAP was fucking shit though.

They've done that already with the iPhone 5 and called it the iPhone SE, so yeah. Other OEMs though? I don't think their luck would be the same. I was in the mobility industry 8 years ago, let's take a look at the "best phones" from then as decided by sales, tech reviewers and consumer reviews. • Samsung Galaxy SII - UGLY. It really was one ugly mother fucker. They'd have to roll back an extra year to the first Galaxy S to have a WinRAR. I still use my original SGS as a pmp for the superior Wolfson DAC. • Moto Droid Bionic - ugly fucking brick of a phone with way too much of the Verizon aesthetic. Hard pass. • LG G2x - more of the same, ugly fucking brick. And like the Bionic, nothing to really make it stand out. • HTC Evo 3D - finally, a phone worth a look. The 3D display and dual 5MP cameras for taking 3D photos would be pretty interesting to see updated for 2019! • HTC Thunderbolt - and then HTC goes and fucks it. Garbage brick. • Sony-Ericsson Xperia Play - holy dicks this needs an updated version NOW. With how well newer phones are able to emulate consoles, this would be one badass pocket emu beast with the same PSP style controls but 2019 cpu/gpu/ram • Google Nexus S - eh. The design was kinda comfy. • Dell Venue Pro - Arguably the best looking phone of 2010/2011. Though it was sporting WP7, if they gave it a Windows 10 update and better hardware, this would be a serious contender. This was my go-to phone for office tasks when I wasn't actually in my office. Though it did take me a while to begrudgingly give up my e71 and switch away from Symbian. • HP Pre 3 - no. Just no.
Andrew Turner
>pretending they were browsing the web daily Literally nobody said that itt, assblasted zoomedditor.
Wyatt Jackson
Nah. Why redesign huge aspects of your UI and only charge $99?
Jason Gutierrez
Anyway, here's my rough idea:
1. Build a new OS/platform
2. Initially create a copycat of the original iPhone as the initial target, only make the changes needed for copyright/legal reasons. Use cheap low-cost off-the-shelf hardware. Sell it as an "BlahPhone Classic" as a trojan horse to get some initial traction, along with justifying the relative limited functionality compared with modern phone OSes - the original iPhone is a really nice target as it's about as complete as you'd need a useful phone.
3. Try and build on that initial product momentum to add functionality and create a new, self-sustaining OS/platform.
John Morris
>Sony-Ericsson Xperia Play - holy dicks this needs an updated version NOW No one needs this shit. Game consoles and phones clearly doesn't mix.
Even today Windows Mobile has a massive feature advantage over Apple. And I'm talking about the original Windows CE-based versions which operated like an actual computer.

/cyb/ as fuck
Bentley Anderson
But nobody remembers them because they were worthless feature phones made by South Korean shitbrick manufacturers with no pull, no proper marketing and no future.
