New things aren't necessarily degenerate. It's just that a lot of them are avant-garde pieces which look like utter rubbish because they're trying to 'challenge' traditional aesthetics by directly countering them.

I think the Shard is pretty aesthetic, for example, especially when viewed at night across London Bridge.

But then you have things like pic related, which are clearly a vehicle for the architect's hubris and look quite ugly. That's a housing project, btw. It's soul crushing.
