Is Notepad++ the best text editor out there?

that.. and sublime.

If you just wanna get things done: notepad++
If you want good looks and customization: vs code, sublime
If you don't want to have descendence: vi, emacs
If you're a hipster: the rest

Too bad it's not on Linux

>If you're a hipster: the rest
How to spot the JS only "programmer".

Weird way to spell sublime

>Notepad++
outdated crap
i'm only use this as replacement for notepad to quickly read/write txt files

I don't understand why anyone would ever use notepad++.

Sublime Text. Atom. VSCode.

>calling a JS subhuman a "programmer"
they're "coders" thank you very much. And they use Atom.

>sublime
imagine having to pirate a text editor
>atom
slow garbage made by SJWs
>VSCode
a slightly less slow version of atom

> what is WINE?
works fine with that, computer illiterate.

>using WINE for a fucking text editor

>muh sjw boogeyman

It's probably still faster and more memory efficient than atom, lol

>>imagine having to pirate a text editor
> he doesn't how its licensing model works
your life = fucking travesty.
> I can't run WINE! my pentium 4 just won't cope!

If you want to get things done, you use an IDE.

atom and vscode slow? thats laughable

What is outdated about it? Do some of the features not work anymore? Is it missing support for some new text editing functionality? Do you just uninstall apps blindly if the last update was more than a few months ago?

>ITT: vim trannies using 20 year old celeron shit justifying their worse editor with "is fast"

>500 MB RAM for a text editor
Yeah, I think I'll pass.

Completely unfounded. I'm using atom right now with several active tabs and its using a fraction of that. VSCode is open using like 50mb and its a goddamn IDE. What are you even talking about?

I just use notepad on windows and gedit on Gnomed loonix

metapad is the redpilled notepad alternative

>VSCode is open using like 50mb
Check the background processes, retard.

>t.loser with a job

Stop being toxic

No, Kate is.

it outdated in the sense of modern app develop practice and architecture.
it's old freeware app which stuck in 2000

So, you're uninstalling it because it doesn't make all the buttons big enough to fit on baby toys, replace menu bars with a burger menu button so everything needs more clicks, remove keyboard shortcuts, and take out half the features?

actually its one of the worst

It's better though. Not only fast in terms of the program, but it also let's you get stuff done faster.

VSCodium

What's all that shit at the top of the screen?

Based & katepilled reply,
>imagine using anything else than kate

this isnt reddit fucko

>Jow Forums gives you a pass to be an absolute retard
didn't knew

Only nignogs who never used kate can say anything is better.

It's available as a snap

I recently switched from gedit to vscode and I'm pretty happy

vim's a million times better but it's not on windows. So, I'd say Notepad++ the best text editor on windows.

>but it's not on windows
But it is. You don't even know the software you use and still claim it's better than anything, The absolute state of vimtards.

Kate is dogshit you regard lmfao. I had to switch to vim on my Debian setup literally just because Kate is trash. I’m pretty sure it’s still using Gnome 2 because its theme doesn’t sync with lxappearance LMFAO. And when you switch to a color scheme besides the default, only the elf gets changed. Which looks really fucking jarring when the program window looks completely different than the text window.

Basically, it’s worse than most alternatives.

>I’m pretty sure it’s still using Gnome 2
I like how you have no idea what you are talking about.

When I log into my Xenix system with my 110 baud teletype, both vi
*and* Emacs are just too damn slow. They print useless messages like,
'C-h for help' and '"foo" File is read only'. So I use the editor
that doesn't waste my VALUABLE time.

Ed, man! !man ed

ED(1) UNIX Programmer's Manual ED(1)

NAME
ed - text editor

SYNOPSIS
ed [ - ] [ -x ] [ name ]
DESCRIPTION
Ed is the standard text editor.
---

"Ed is the standard text editor."

And ed doesn't waste space on my Timex Sinclair. Just look:

-rwxr-xr-x 1 root 24 Oct 29 1929 /bin/ed
-rwxr-xr-t 4 root 1310720 Jan 1 1970 /usr/ucb/vi
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root 5.89824e37 Oct 22 1990 /usr/bin/emacs

Of course, on the system *I* administrate, vi is symlinked to ed.
Emacs has been replaced by a shell script which 1) Generates a syslog
message at level LOG_EMERG; 2) reduces the user's disk quota by 100K;
and 3) RUNS ED!!!!!!

"Ed is the standard text editor."

Let's look at a typical novice's session with the mighty ed:

golem> ed

?
help
?
?
?
quit
?
exit
?
bye
?
hello?
?
eat flaming death
?
^C
?
^C
?
^D
?

---
Note the consistent user interface and error reportage. Ed is
generous enough to flag errors, yet prudent enough not to overwhelm
the novice with verbosity.

"Ed is the standard text editor."

Ed, the greatest WYGIWYG editor of all.

When I use an editor, I don't want eight extra KILOBYTES of worthless
help screens and cursor positioning code! I just want an EDitor!!
Not a "viitor". Not a "emacsitor". Those aren't even WORDS!!!! ED!
ED! ED IS THE STANDARD!!!

TEXT EDITOR.

Ed is for those who can *remember* what they are working on. If you
are an idiot, you should use Emacs. If you are an Emacs, you should
not be vi. If you use ED, you are on THE PATH TO REDEMPTION. THE
SO-CALLED "VISUAL" EDITORS HAVE BEEN PLACED HERE BY ED TO TEMPT THE
FAITHLESS. DO NOT GIVE IN!!! THE MIGHTY ED HAS SPOKEN!!!

?

>trying to change the theme of a QT program with lxappearance

I use both Notepad++ and Sublime.
There's always that time you need to mess with encodings, and npp never fails to deliver.

What the fuck happened to my name field.
I swear this is the fucking firefox drag issue. When will they fix it.

lol the n++ dev is an sjw too

I agree that it is dumb you have to change two values for Kate to change the background color.
But most people just go for premade themes anyway and then it is fine.
Other than that, Kate is a great editor, easily rivaling sublime and notepad++, but I also prefer it over vim.

Retard

not since the 'save all' bug eats all my notes

not an argument. if you're not paying for it, you're clearly violating the license

I like gedit

it's better than stock notepad and that's the only reason I use it.
For actual work no, lmao
