Why don't people get viruses anymore?

Excluding old boomers

better security in browsers and OSes

nobody downloads software anymore. Your web browser determines your computing experience more than your OS in 2019.

system crashing viruses are mostly a fiction that was peddled by McAfee and anti-virus companies (most of them from estonia).

malware are the greater threat now. turns out that killing your shitty dell at home or at work is not as valuable as spamming ads at you, installing keyloggers or running crypto miners on that same shitty pc.

It's difficult to get one when you use your computer for nothing but social media, amazon, and the like.

It's no longer fun to simply fuck with other people's shit.

this
the only viruses left anymore are zero days when they accidentally click an ad on porn sites
Also priorities got checked, the best way to make money right now with blackhat stuff is simply just phising in the crypto community.

>better security in browsers and OSes
Meme answer

Java applet drive-by aren't a thing anymore

He is right, though, but only because 90s-early 00s consumer software was catastrophically stupid.
I don't think anyone even used ActiveX for actual useful things. It was like Microsoft went out of their way to make a streamlined entry point for malware out of boredom.

I didn't get viruses then either

where do old boomers even find viruses
it's uncanny

most modern day virus are bitcoin miners.

been not infected is criminal now

Your average Joe doesn't use email, barely access anything outside facebook, instagram and youtube and barely uses a PC at all. Not to mention that Windows has Defender that is basically useless but works sometimes and Chrome can check websites and even files against a database and tell if they are potentially dangerous. Also popups aren't a thing now, flash is dead, and Java is irrelevant on browsers. Browsers are pretty safe on their own now.

Yeah, and it's best for those to be as unobtrusive as possible.

>crash reporting
I can't believe they got away with such an obvious "give us your information" scheme.
also, checked

More profitable to make adware and not crash pc's for random.

Why make a virus when you can make btc payments

>The medieval 30 year old.

>spend all day shitposting on Jow Forums and feeding your ego instead of bettering yourself and seeking passions
>wtf why am I so miserable
In a weird way, I almost agree with this picture, because people like this deserve to be born into misery.

>bettering yourself
>seeking passions
Remember not to become slave to ur passions

that's pretty fucking edgy desu. i hope you're just a child who's yet to grow up and not an adult who's a sociopath.

There's little need to steal information when retards install anything and agree to share everything.

>Don't have viruses for around 8 years
>Brother moves out and he doesn't have internet
>Constantly asks me to pirate games for him
>Computer starts slowing down to the point where I have to wait 20 minutes for the screen to go to the log in screen and another 10-15 for the desktop to fully load up
>read somewhere that pirate Bay installs Bitcoin miners
>Used to using my Linux laptop I of windows i use for game downloads
>Brother tells me to get the free Norton trial
>Norton tells me so far that I have 0 viruses/security risks

Just going to say fuck it, wipe this entire computer, and turn this laptop into a Linux only laptop too.

USB is the most common vector for computer viruses, but auto-run is off by default in windows 10, and even if it does run accidentally because it spoofed a file icon it would get blocked by defender which has auto updates.

they installed CommonSense

Depends on what you mean by virus. If you mean anything made intentionally to fuck up a computer, there's still tons of that. You just don't get it because it's not targeted at you. If you mean a recursively self-replicating program that infects boot sectors or other programs, there are a few reasons for that.
The people making malware now are only doing it to make money and are going for more targeted attacks on hospitals and other institutions that urgently need their data and have deep pockets. They are actually not much more technically sophisticated than any other script kiddie. Old style viruses that hitch a ride on a disk, executable, or email take a great deal of knowledge to make, especially those infecting the first two, which often required knowledge of Assembly. Writing a virus was a great way to truly learn the ins and outs of your processor and OS a while ago. There used to be a huge scene of people on the Internet from the 1990s into the early 2000s who would look or new and innovative ways to infect things and publish them in zines like 29A, VLAD, Metaphase, and RRLF to name a few. It wasn't malicious, more like "there's a cool thing you can do with this new feature Microsoft or Intel just rolled out". There were also some people who just wanted to see something they create make it from a few disks handed out to their friends to the other side of the world in a few months. There were a few truly evil ones, but those were hyped to sell antivirus. That tinkering spirit is gone now and it's all about how to get money fast.

Look up AV companies reports. Botnets still happen.

i installed retard proof browser plug in for all the old people so they can't download more ram

there are no longer viruses as they used to be, nowdays it's all about the adware they hide malicious programs in every fishy executable you download to reroute your chrome main page to whatever the fuckload of ads they want, very annoying but it won't break your windows installation
ransomware on the other hand now mostly hit people who will actually pay and not the 19 years old stacy with a hp laptop filled of travel pictures
lastly gmail is somewhat good on managing spam email and if you browse on the path, maybe with a good adblock even you boomer dad will never get any virus on their machine

This is the truth.
For many gamers even the only binary they download is their video drivers, Steam, and then the content from Steam.
Fucking downloading anything beyond Goggle Chrome on to your PC basically makes you a "power user" in this computer era. Most all computing is done with in browsers.

I remember when I was young I got a virus that would randomly play ads through my speakers.

I remember there being pepsi challenge ads, burger king ads, and then I'd get random ads to country in vacations I'd never heard of, and a bunch of other ones.

Literally all of my friends and their parents use email, what are you talking about?

Anti-virus software has been shoehorned into the service side of the client-service model because everyone got used to the paradigm of 90% of your clients are stupid enough to confuse a 5MB MP3 file with a 5kB EXE file.
If your file sharing site or some enterprise firewall doesn't catch the virus and give you a bad scary message about it, the common operating systems and browsers will also sandbox and scan software for viruses as well.
People are still retarded at all ages, it's just boomers get set in their ways, never update their shit, and remain increasingly open to attack.

Well, people at our age (assuming we are millennials) still use email for important shit, but zoomers on average don't know how to communicate with anything other than Facebook, iMessage or Whatsapp. Email is not relevant as it was 10 years ago, when everyone used it all the time. I doubt you even use it to send anything other than attachments and important stuff or to follow an URL to confirm an account you just created.

advances in medicine and healthcare

Because better default security practises nowadays in OSs and browsers.
Basically have a decent antivirus that you run in the background and for the love of fuck use adblock and you'll be safe if you don't sudo or admin right execute everything you can find.

1. fiddling around with a bunch of .exes isnt in anymore
2. in fact, fiddling with any programs at all isnt in anymore
3. internet as a whole got more centralized with the main hubs being large corporations with polished and secure websites
4. speaking of which, flat design as a philosophy for file management
5. to extend point 4. customization itself is dying, further reducing the risk of getting malware
6. more and stricter laws regarding online activities

Why do americans cartoonists have such contempt for the younger generations?

Attached: 1533774135886m.jpg (1024x760, 120K)

demanding a crummy new thing?
he should be demanding a pail of water instead

The number of sites you visit is much smaller now and there is no real need to download anything for an average consumer.

Because for Americans everything has to be an us-versus-them thing.

no way any peasant would have fought in three "wars" in his entire lifetime.

This is entirely wrong. The serfs weren't able to afford their own weapons and thus occupied a station in medieval society lower than that of even a soldier on foot. They were prohibited from fighting by circumstance, and thus stayed poor peasants working the turf. Only when longbows proved effective at Agincourt did service in the army open up to the poor. This gets me mad.
