lolis?

What is a good price for a W540 i7-4710MQ, Quadro K2100M, 20 gb of ram, and a 1080p screen? Alternatively a W540 with an i7-4700MQ, Quadro K2100M, 16 gb ram and 1080p screen? Both of them have 256 gb SSDs

My WLAN card keeps shitting on me, disconnecting me at random from my network if there is not an active download on the background. Is the card dying? It's a 6205

Whats up TPG
Sorry for the personal blog but I accidentally a whole bottle of jameson last night and woke up with this purchase in my ebay history.
How fucked am I? I realize I could've gotten a T440/T450/T460s probably for this kind of pricing, but do you think I'll be able to pawn it off to some retard on craigslist for $600/$550/$500? I don't even want an XPS 13, so I'm not sure why I even bought this. I think my drunken self said "OMG THERE'S NO BIDS I'LL GET IT AT THE CHEAPEST POSSIBLE PRICE" but the logical morning-after me says "There's no bids on it for a reason, dumbass, because it's shit."
Now it does have thunderbolt 3 so eGPU is possible for the retarded gaymurs out there, and it is the "Infinity Edge®™" screen, despite the pics the guy posted being in like 1024x768 with black bars on the side or some shit. The bezel is actually pretty much nonexistent. It seemed to be in very good condition, and the same craptop is about $700 on other websites, "refurb" with no OS or HDD. This one comes with macrosoft binbows wangblows 10 whatever, which I don't even want, but anyway, I guess the point is, Is there hope, Jow Forums? Could I flip this, not only get my money back, but also make enough ($100-$150) to buy myself a comfy x61/x220?

I realize it's $420, and for $420 I could've gotten an E485 straight from lenovo's website, new, but, I feel like I'd rather a T60 :)

> dick around for a few days and successfully get it corebooted but it freezes up for no damn reason, sometimes after a few hours, sometimes after a few days. no clues in /var/log

> revert to me_cleaner'd vendor UEFI and it still fuckin locks up

The state of the machine during the lockups makes me think the discrete GPU is being shitty. Disabling it in coreboot or UEFI doesn't seem to improve things. I want uptimes of months like the old beast this was meant to replace. I fell for the thinkpad meme. wat do Jow Forums

Attached: pic_related.jpg (1000x563, 42K)

if you want your dgpu to work unironically install windows, linux support for optimus is dogshit and unlikely to ever change hell even windows support is questionable at times for that crap

i am too scared to use ebay

Why haven't you installed OSX on your thinkpad yet?

$25 for a new mobo on ebay. That will help get rid of bios gremlins which you might have.

Correction: Nvidia's support for Linux is dogshit. Linux support for just about everything is companies open sourcing their work, or dedicated volunteers working in their spare time to circumvent asshole hardware design.

For a guy who is getting in to coding for the first time, self learning from scratch, which thinkpad should I get or will it not really matter as much and I should just get one of the green ones listed on the thinkpad price guide? I want to learn JS, then maybe C+ and Python.

Is there anything worthwhile you can do with an X131E? I know it's a shitty chromebook but suppose I acquired one for free from a relative who was going to just throw it away (they gave it to me "because I like thinkpads") - should I just format it and try to put some lightweight xfce-based distro on it or something?

Did you mean: with no ports?

Very nice buy man!!

Congrats and hope you enjoy it

Shut up idiot, nothing beats my w520

my runescape is running at sub 10 fps on a intel t2400 1.83. would upgrading to 2 - 2.33 ghz processor get me to at least 30 fps? the game uses one core

Just throw that shitty laptop away and get yourself something better

libreboot or coreboot for x200? I got one of those AFFS screens for it, that doesn't need anything that libreboot doesn't offer right?

and a journalctl -b -1 pls

can someone answer or all of /tpg/ are autistic ?

Did you reflash an old version of the BIOS? Because I've heard some stories about similarly fucky shit happening with pre 2.7x versions of the bios after killing intel me

libreboot is pre-compiled and ready to hardware flash so start with that. then, you can compile and software flash coreboot at your leisure

Attached: nope.png (1041x31, 30K)

what would I want differently in coreboot

I guess I could spin up a usb with a bloated pid 1 to see if it can diagnose something further for some dumb reason

>driver support?
do you think you need a special driver for every laptop? drivers are per component so as long as you get something standard it should be fine
>legality?
why would it be illegal? do you honestly think it's illegal to modify a computer you own?
>can you even buy one without getting chinked?
people have done it in the past so i don't see why that would change
>can someone answer or all of /tpg/ are autistic ?
stop asking dumb questions

I have a x230 but i want a better screen and im to clumsy to uograde the screen myself, what model is the go to for equal specwise as x230?

Looking to get a new laptop, my last one was a Dell latitude 410 so I'm a bit out of the loop. If I mainly wanted one to do documents, casual web use, connecting up to a TV to watch chinese cartoons and maybe play some old games would a T440p or a T430 be alright?

Attached: 1432494578441.jpg (720x544, 34K)

no need to do that. i thought you used debian because your .config said "Compiler: gcc-6 (Debian 6.3.0-18+deb9u1) 6.3.0 20170516"
just give me your system log before your pc restarts

t420 can do that just fine

Attached: screenshot.png (626x494, 237K)

I can't say shit myself because I can't read chinkistani.
As far as I know, though, 51nb is trusted by /tpg/ (or at least the old /tpg/, back when actual advice was given, collections were bragged about, ktgee was still alive and we didn't have like half of the threads devoted to replying to weak baits, strawmans and shills (except the 2570p shill, fuck that guy))
Why would it be illegal, though? You're not pulling a Tyrone here, snatching the thing from someone on the streets

Should I rather buy T460 or X1C3, both same processor architecture, RAM and SSD (not sure if one of them even supports M.2)??
Both goes for same price of 400euros. I am looking for daily driver, main work will be mostly programming and watching porn, also Linux friendly.

I'm telling you, there's shit all in the logs. It doesn't reboot, it hangs until I find it and fully power cycle it.
Looks like I keep fatfingering my compose key.

I was actually thinking of putting a esp2866 board in my thinkpad with a little display but i don't know where to get the power from

Hey /tpg/ I finally took the plunge with my savings and bought an X1 Extreme with I7

I received it sealed, we installed the additional RAM and when I got home I noticed my trackpoint and mouse buttons were not working. I spent 5 hours trying different drivers but in the end it is always grayed out and not working. Turns out it was a hardware issue, so I had to return in to the shop 1 day later and am now waiting for it to be repaired or get a replacement.

Is it that often a business grade laptop to come with such an obvious defect

This guy got his power from the sata port. Its described in his hackaday build log.

The real trick will be to write a custom linux driver to get a serial console on the pi or espi, laptop sata port to spi/gpio. At the moment this guy is just using wifi.

I know there's someone out there who could figure it out in an afternoon. Until they come forward, I'm looking into writing a custom driver.

I heard y'all want Coreboot case stickers

Pretty sweet, but I can't think of a reason why beyond it looking cool. And I sure hope those gpio pins don't get bent while you're out and about and start connecting to each other.

Attached: IMG_4095.jpg (1495x997, 676K)

With everything nowadays being outsourced to China and having "cost reducing measures", the quality of almost everything is plummeting to the ground
Why do you think that floppy disks that are old as fucking fossilized shit still work nowadays?
>inb4 OLD THINKPAD GOOD NEW THINKPAD BAD
Fuck off with this cookie cutter response

The chromebook’s hardware supports FSF approved distros like Trisquel so if you put seabios on it you pretty much have an all free as in freedom netbook (if that’s what you want). Or you can just install whatever distro you want. There’s also an empty sata slot inside of the laptop so it’s easy to upgrade the storage. It’s a neat little netbook. I’d recommend it.

>>
wait I have this exact book right next to me.

The overlap between us thinkpad autists and rpi weirdos is pretty high. Not having to ssh back into your pi sitting back in your mom's basement, and having 40 gpio pins ready in the field could be useful. Having a pi always ready for fucking around would be just plain nice.

Attached: received_307020066652923.jpg (720x960, 70K)

is it any good i was thinking of getting it

Yeah, not a bad point with having a portable flasher out and about for events (If I ever were a part of something like that). Definitely would wow some folks.

where'd you get those?

Did you order it from Lenovo?

Lenovo works only through resellers in my country, so I took it from a small electronic shop that is an official Lenovo service point
+it was sealed, and I checked the serial number and it's not refurbished

Hey, I just got an x220t and noticed it boots kind of slowly. It takes 4-5 seconds from boot to the Thinkpad logo. I updated the BIOS and set it to quick boot but it didn't seem to change anything. Is this normal for these models or is there something else I should try?

I made them!

Install coreboot.

Attached: stickers.jpg (1495x997, 306K)

Portability is a big factor in choosing between those devices and almost 10 y.o devices do not seem as valid options.

Hold the fuck up. I can have a 2560x1440 laptop for under $300?

The older X1 are super cheap now.

You don't get nvme 802.11ac or thunderbolt 3 though.

x200 is probably the worst unless you care about size a bunch. T430 is newer and probably has better specs, T420 has a classic keyboard so that's pretty much personal preference. I have a T420 and it's slightly slower compiling libc++ than the T430, but I feel like the T420 has a slightly nicer keyboard feel and way better layout. Also the T430 has a backlit keyboard if that's important to you.

Hasn't idab been telling people this for almost a year now?

>backit keyboard
>not a toplit keyboard

You are like a little baby, watch this

Attached: ThinkLight_on_A21p.jpg (640x480, 187K)

My stock bios X200s (no awoo I probably won't libreboot it because my soldering skills are at the level of a 6th grader and I'd probably brick it) boots to logo in about 6 sconds so it's probably normal.
Libreboot could easily get my X200s to boot into graphical environment in under 10 seconds though because it takes about 13 with stock bios so I'm fucking tempted to do it but also scared fuuuuuuuck.

Based

this post was typed using a ThinkLight™ toplit keyboard

This is probably worth $500, but it isn't a thinkpad.
Maybe you'll make $50 off it after shipping. Good luck retard.

Just practice on shit you don't care about until you're comfortable. You'll deffo need a hot air gun for that job, so you can practice taking surface mounted chips off of junk boards until you get it down. Putting a chip back is even easier.

Or just use a pomona clip, you don't even need to solder for the x200

Attached: 20181125_161816.jpg (3264x2448, 3.15M)

Where is the best place to get a refurbished X1 Carbon with WQHD screen in Sweden/Northern Europe?

Attached: cr3soyfijfr21.jpg (1612x1684, 168K)

He has a X200s, not a X200. It "requires" replacing a wson8 chip with a soic8, since the wson8 isn't easily flashable.

Ah, so you are then.

should i get X240 over X250? sixty bucks less
don't really care about clickpad bait
also, strangely, passmark tells that 4300u is generally faster than 5200u (only difference apart from buttons)
