What brand of hard drives are they using?

idk go ask them
maybe HGST but i honestly dont know.
>she doesn't know how to zip files
>inb4 seagate
>nasa spent their entire budget on a milkdrop preset
this is why we need the space force
She saved a hole on the HDD :33
all that money for a screensaver...
I want to save your hole on my HDD 2bh
>nasa
What?
prob. uses comfy Ace files.
the kind that is backdoored
what uh... kind of computer are those
No single brand. And that's not all the HDDs. There are 8 drives in each stack and 8 stacks, so 64 drives.
If you divide 5PB by 64 you would end up with 81,920GB. How many companies sell 82TB HDDs? And in a 3.5" form factor.
The text is a lie.
>5 petabytes (5,242,880 Gigabytes)
SI-fags BTFO!
Why are you assuming that's all the drives? The whole needing a truck to transport if that could fit in any car.
>Why are you assuming that's all the drives?
Because that's what the text suggests, and most brainlets would take it at face value.
I saw the stream where they said it was something like quarter of a tonne of HDDs, which that clearly isn't.
It's hard not to assume things when our Facebook is spammed with pictures like this derp
I actually cringed.
>got us to the black hole
Pls no
Delete Facebook, normie
I for one welcome our extradimensional overlords
conduant.com
>women
>using Apple MacBooks
>doing real work
Jow Forums is completely BTFO in one image
>5 gorillion gigs to take a picture
Lmao why not just use a camera
>Because that's what the text suggests,
I would go further than that and say it outright asserts it!
If those drives were dense enough they could easily weigh that amount, and its plausible as she is a black hole expert probably could make a black hole dense hdd. The problem is getting the data back out.
>nasa
user I...
it's a big picture
for you
>literally took 50 years for women to do something noteworthy
Check out her contributions bros
Pretty standard stuff it looks like.
God i bet its in raid 0. Gross
wait, is that... py...thon? It can't be right?
Python cannot be escaped, it can only be delayed
Why? It's a easy language to use to create temperate tools to process data in this case.
They are scientists, not programmers, they only use this shit as a tool to get to means, not to crate bloated programs nobody wants.
python has really good performance user
>raid 0
For what purpose? Isn't something like JBOD or LVM enough and more reliable?
would marry mrs hamilton
I guess in this case Python might be an ok choice
Dammmmm, those commit restraints. One commit per items would but comfy as fuck. Also crazy time consuming
Because the camera would need to be 13000 km in diameter.
look at that shnozzle
Watch the TEDx
>who led
Newspeak word for "men did all the work and she took credit"
you...you guys know that the entire goal of this useless pic is to make good PR and get more funding for their useless projects, right?
oa
It's pretty common for teams to have a team leader.
Not that. It's just grrl power. Not that I care. Even when men are involved there's always the lead guy who gets the credit while some nerd slogs and actually does the grunt work.
Remember me.
>It's pretty common for teams to have a team leader.
And it's pretty common for team leaders to do nothing while its members work like slaves
That's a big fucking gimp image... How come we only get the 480x240 edition?
I don't hold anything against her. She's just some chick who likes astronomy. She's not the one going "Muh stronge injapendent womyn" and posting shit like . She just wants to do a cool astronomy thing and happens to be a chick.
Why the fuck are they using macs instead of supercomputers? Is it because this kike was responsible for how the budget was spent?
Imagine that 70s bush
Someone give me a quick rundown
>internet retards freaking out about a blurry gay looking pic of a black hole
>be me
>using way better quality black hole pics since the 90s at least
Why do you think it took 2 years to reveal the image?
user, macs are the best computers in the world
They're all like shiny and sleek and have rounded corners and shit, that makes them go fast and be more secure
You don't just sit down at a supercomputer, retard. Everything is run remotely.
The astronomy women deserve no hate. She doesn't even have social media, she does her astronomy shit. Good on her.
>using a mac laptop as a terminal for supercomputers
kys already
So, you can make large radio telescopes by placing several receivers in strategic locations and triangulating the differences in the readings. A few years ago people had the idea of doing this shit with multiple radio telescopes all over the world to create a planetary scale radio telescope.
I don't know if this shit here is the first time it's been done, but it's a nice high profile example of the tech to capture a blaggole 55mn ly away.
commodity hardware fucked science up. in most fields supercomputers - or even decent workstations - are the exception. organizations would rather buy 10 macs than 2 good machines.
alan kay criticizes this saying that nowadays we work on future solutions using computers from the past. in the 70s and 80s people built novel computers to handle the intensive workloads during research & development then optimized the solutions to mundane machines.
This, she did nothing wrong.
>a mac can't run ssh
You are actually retarded
This is true but since this thread is about the girl it would be pretty retarded to have object and not the girl...
The first image was to show the amount of storage needed to store the image though
It's about all they're actually good for, dumbfuck.
lmao
thats disgusting
Can someone add a BLACKED logo over her photo?
Do redditors actually think one dude wrote nearly a million lines of spaghetti code?
She designed the algorithm
Checkmate, codemonkies
It's over, I want to get off programmer wild ride
Look here Do you perchance see 850000 somewhere
No
Either he's uploading a massive compilation of several teams worth of code, or he's using github as data storage.
> python
Why do you think it took two years to process the data?
>Jap guy named Mareki Honma comes up with the algorithm
>Another guy named Andrew Chael writes most of the code
>Literally who named Katie Bouman gets all the credit
Hmmmmmm
Hey man, that was alot of data
>Save 5 minutes by using existing libraries and not having to learn a real language
>Spend 2 years extra waiting for the code to run
It's a shame that an amazing accomplishment for all involved is being turned into some political pissing match by people that didn't contribute a single thing of substance themselves.
She didn't do shit:
I hate how bigots on Jow Forums are trying to diminish her accomplishment just because she is a woman. They don't even understand how important her work was.
4u
>we
nsf.gov
They took down the tiff for some reason but the higher rez jpg is still available.
You couldn't write a single line of code in that project.
Not him, but neither could she, judging by her contributions. Any user on here can plug in code and alter it.
I saw a line where the plot is saved as a pdf. Yeah I could write that.
Oh yeah?
s = 'pee pee in the poo poo'
print s
BTFO!
Having worked one radio telescope data I can tell you the data is compressed as part of the standard file format. Not doing so would mean requiring around 4x more data storage.
>several commits not even hers
>frontend stuff
>maciek co sie stao
dunno but I manage a 4PB cluster and no way that is 5
>obvious troll post, user thinks its funny, you get defensive
The my women's stronk fags/trolls are half of what's causing these replies, incel insecurity being the other half. The amount of autism is too high.
ayy lmao
