I've worked a ton with Yandex's software, including their ML libraries (catboost). They are a very interesting tech company that is very, very much underrated due to their market being primarily russian. They have a ton of interesting services, but yes, it isn't a Yandex product if it isn't filled with data collection. Is it a Russian botnet? They have to comply with Russian regulations and they do store data in Russian servers, whose keys the Russian government must have access to.

Nonetheless, I'd move to Russia to work with them, it'd be an honour. Hit me up ;)

I use it for free email hosting with custom domain name. Works pretty good until some other host receives and filters it to spam because of the yandex.ru header.

luckily, i've had it for a few years so it's been let through most spam filters now.

I'm Russian and I use yandex.music, yandex.maps and yandex.taxi, but I would never let them anywhere near sensitive information or my political activity, they're too close to the regime/FSB. Also their news aggregator is basically full-on pro-Putin propaganda.
I'd much rather NSA spy on me, at least they won't put me in jail for reposting memes.

I use it because it seems to be the only search engine that brings up tv/movie streams

best reverse image search by far if you want to find actually visually similar images rather than pages that contain the image you're looking for, captchas out the fucking ass for every little thing making it unusable after a while, dodgy results for nearly everything, over nine thousand russian/cryllic/asian results which aren't useful, almost certainly a russian government botnet with less transparency than you'll get out of google/bing

google reverse image search is only useful for finding pages where that image is used similarly to tineye, the 'similar images' option google offers seems to be based on nothing more than automatic keyword detection which is useless, bing has always been shit

Supposedly pr0n providers have protested and Google made search less efficient.

Also over the last few years Google has removed blog search and other specialised search tools. No idea why.
