sapphire gets the ROPE

Redpill on STAX for newbies: STAX is an old Jap company with outdated tech that was considered high end back in the 1960s and 1970s but sounds like ass by today's standards, so they went nearly bankrupt. They were purchased by a Chinese company for just a million dollars who decided to market STAX to the audiophool "more expensive is better" demographic who buys those crappy $3000 vinyl players, they shill heavily on HeadFi and here on /hpg/, plus they pay Zeos to shill their crap.

>In December 2011, Chinese loudspeaker manufacturer Edifier announced the acquisition of 100% equity in Stax

Oratory has measured the highest end STAX, the SR-009S.

dropbox.com/s/61srehjyaltd7w0/Stax SR-009S.pdf?dl=0

dropbox.com/s/dm0m6u3s3b4zqzl/Sennheiser HD600.pdf?dl=0

It's worse than the HD600. HD600 scored 92 and SR-009S scored 76.

Recently Rtings rated STAX across various dimension, it's worse in terms of sound than mid-priced offerings from Hifiman and Audeze, and only got a 7.7 rating.

In a separate study:

>The very highest end STAX ($4000 SR-009) was rated lower in blind tests than a $200 K701

To add insult to overpriced injury, they have shitty plastic build quality that you would expect on cheap chinkshit headphones:

Even best Stax headphones sound objectively worse than mid-fi. This is why they don't demo them in store, they rely on the internet to create a sense of mystique around STAX and shill it as the endgame because its expensive, Asian, rare and obscure. In reality its no bass sounding garbage, with shrill highs that appeal only to near-deaf boomer. STAX is Made in China snakeoil for the audiophool.

Can someone name one headphone that sounds better than stax L300

Literally Beats by Dr Dre is better and more neutral
Something like the ATH-M50x is good for $150
Don't fall for the Stax guerrilla marketing.

Is this a general for dynamics again? Can I come back?

this but dont forget a good dac and amp
yes

buy stax

>Fostex is okay
>when ZMF and Audeze are two tiers up
That's, huh, not very coherent, user. Fostex is ZMF except with actual experience in the field.

Where can I get decent deal on Philips Fidelio X2HR?

Remember to praise your STAX today

a drawing I've made after a 175ug LSD trip with my SR-007

Is that depicting visuals you had? Not sure what STAX has to do with this.

this figure told me to trust no magnets shortly after switching to my K400s to keep from possibly damaging my SR-007 but everything sounded like mud from my K400 it was super muddy and distorted and enclosed and then I switched back to my SR-007 and it was like putting on my ears everything was crystal clear and spacious
youtube.com/watch?v=l3nepy_SkwM this album here made so much more sense on LSD

Because Stax are the ultimate in audio fidelity. You might as well shit on your hands and rub it on your ears if you use any other headphones.

honestly this my SR-007 was and is now a life long friend its no longer Merely a posession in my eyes

You're not doing them good promotion by making such a vulgar post. Seriously, man. Yikes.

>You're not doing them good promotion by making such a vulgar post.
you think we care? fuck nostaxers and fuck niggers

Do stax fags have any actual arguments? How do they justify paying good money for products that measure so badly?

Black people would pick the same words.

>Black people
say it, redditor: niggers

I'd feel dirty and would prefer not referring to them at all. Except you had to bring them up.

both my Lambda Nova Signature and SR-007mk1 are nice and are 20+ years old

It's because you cant into business.
Why do you think luxury brands have a cheaper line geared towards plebs?

no reason to spend more than $100 on headphones unless you have the 'tism

>Why do people need more than Toyota Camry? People buying Konisegg Regera have the 'tism

yes

Just got back from AXPONA. Damn, things keep getting better. Two headphones I heard that compete with what I got: Mr. Speakers Ether open ($1500), and the Sonoma electrostat system ($4k). Fuck there's a lotta options out there!

The hunt for the perfect phones continues.

I'm looking for a pair I can gift my gf when she visits in a few weeks with the following qualities:

>sounds great
>closed back (good isolation from background noise)
>comfortable
>removable cable (compatible with boompro mic)
>nice looking (bottom priority)

I thought I found the one that checks all the boxes with the V-Moda Crossfade M-100 ($250 new). I picked up a pair and was somewhat disappointed. Yeah they sound quite good, isolation is ok, looks are nice (customizable too), but they're heavy and uncomfortable, even with the XL pads. The headband is narrow and the padding is insufficient. I don't care if I can hear angels singing through it; if it's painful to wear them I'm not going to use them on my head so I'm sure not going to give them to my sweetie.

If anyone can recommend me a pair of reasonably high-end closed-back cans with removable cable that are comfortable I would appreciate it.

unfortunately the idea of "appropriation" keeps people from sharing cultures

Is that a problem? There was .5% women, too, more Asian than white. Most importantly there was Great Sound.

Its a sony meme, just get AptX support, its more than good enough.

When you say Ether Open, do you mean Ether 2?

I am interested in them but I'm worried they have that same lifeless Mr.Speakers flat sound that makes all music sound boring.

Dropped my old headphone and one of the joints broke.

Would be nice, if they're compact and can also take a beating.
Liked the design of the Sony one.
USB-C would also be nice.

Get the Fostex TR-X00 Ebony edition, those check off all your boxes:

- Biocellulose driver, so amazing sound with very low distortion
- Closed back
- Comfortable, although I decided to add a fleece pad on my band
- Removable cable
- They're wood so it looks amazing

Also if you want the less balanced and more niggerbass version, get the Mahogany or Purpleheart wood versions of it.

Attached: X00 PH.jpg (1124x750, 49K)

I have both the ZMF Eikon and the Fostex TH-X00 Ebony and the ZMF are way better sounding.

next you'll be recommending "bioprotein" drivers

I heard the yokes snap easily on these :/

Are you fucking retarded? You think biocellulose means "paper"?

You realize that the legendary Sony R-10, which now goes for $10,000, was so expensive because of its biocellulose drivers?

My dude, educate yourself.

Just mod them by closing them and getting thicker pads and they'll have bass.

cnet.com/news/sony-mdr-r10-the-worlds-best-headphone/

No, you educate yourself.

biocellulose has another name called "paper pulp". the r10 was expensive because sony makes expensive things. the sony qualia is like $6000 and complete shit

Microbial cellulose isn't the same thing as "paper pulp", you fucking retard.

Theres's A LOT more to it than frequency response. Stax have a unique clarity that dynamics can't touch, but it costs $$$ cos muh energizer. Also, ALL Stax are balanced, w/quadrature amplitude output stages, because they need to push/pull the diaphragm. Only 4-wire dyamic headphones are capable of operating balanced. Yes, it's a big deal to me.

Attached: 20190413_160105.jpg (4032x3024, 543K)

This is like trying to argue that extruded aluminum is different from machined aluminum.

You're an idiot.

But do they have Bluetooth?

that fucking trash text in the image is barely readable in the catalog

That would be expected. Try comparing it with TH-900s.

fitting as headphones make music barely listenable compared to earspeakers

biobacon headphones when
asking for a friend

No, they seem to make open and closed back versions of all their phones? I liked the Ether Open, and they also have a Massdrop Ether closed right now for $900. But the open is $1500 that I'm about to cough up to compete w/my DT 1990s and HiFiMan Sundra. F'n Planar Magnetics, amirite?

>AudioQuest
>Okay tier

>i'm a retard who has no idea what I'm talking about so I'm just going to make a completely fucking retarded analogy

If you're going to spend $1500, you may as well add another $500 and get the Ether 2.

might as well buy Stax 007

Complete newbie retard here, can “laid-back” headphones be used with not-so-laid-back genres like Metal and Industrial and still get good results?

you’re way off lad

My thoughts on Stax, particularly L300/L500/L700 is that I like them and think they are unique sounding with crazy detail, but they feel really dry and analytical. It is impressive sounding for sure, but I don't typically like to listen to my music that way. I want to eventually pick up a Stax 3100 system, but I would only use it for specific cases, and it wouldn't be my goto system. I also hate that you have to buy a separate energizer that can't be used with other gear.

hell yeah nigga

that’s why you buy 007, which doesn’t sound like lambdas

HD800 made STAX obsolete with its superior soundstage and imaging.

Most dynamics/planar headphones today over $500 can be run balanced or single ended.

seal mod them, EQ bass to preference

then why does every hd800S + stax owner here prefer their stax

I have a doctorate in materials science.
You just learned the term for the first time.

sunken costs fallacy

>every

Its one Edifier Corp. shill you faggot.

I make $300K at NASA in their material science department. You're a retard.

the hd800 is 2-3x more expensive than lambdas so how could that be the case

>mod these ultra expensive headphones so they don't sound like shit
>completely change them by making open headphones into closed headphones

Why.jpg?

So what's the issue with paper drivers exactly?

you should learn the difference between front chamber and rear chamber, it's important

comparing the DT880 and koss ESP 95/X, yeah the koss doesn't have the same treble, but it sounds more natural. Does that mean the DT880 has artificial, 'fake' treble?
