Look at that disgusting tranny.

Is the T440s the best ?

X220 and X230s in good condition seem to cost more than x240s and 50s. Went for a t440s for $60 no HDD/screen hopefully can take the panel out of t440p and put it an and convert that to a desktop

What model should I get if I just wanna use it for general use (streaming videos, browsing the internet, etc.) and light music production (mainly using audacity to record guitar and vocals)?

Should i get an X61 so i can take it to uni instead of my W500?

start going to the gym, you basedboi

2nd gen x1 carbon coming in this Thursday, comes with Windows 10

How do i customize this for a authentic Thinkpad experience?

I need something around 100$ that can keep up with web browsing and streaming.

omfg those stickers pls kys

Well obviously you know the limitations of the hardware, but at this point it's hard to find batteries that last a while, which is really the only drawback
either solder your own or understand you have like 4 hours of battery life on a 9 cell

So is upgrading the screen on an x220 to IPS as easy as it sounds? Also is there anything I have to look for in a screen, such as specific model number??

X240 vs t440s? What would be the mods I could do to them and what would you consider "must haves"?

Doing mostly word processing, power point, light photo editing, and web browsing.

well, if you have a CCFL display already it's easy enough, but if you don't you need an inverter. I'd honestly take the led backlit display though on account of the screen yellowing.

Disregard other comment. X220 is always LED. Just remove the system battery, and follow the guide. Get the lp125wh2(sl)(t1) display which can be found on US ebay for $30 by searching `s230u display`, then following this guide: telegra(dot)ph(slash)Thinkpad-Twist-S230u-Screen-Disassembly-10-07

That’s a beautiful trap

based

I've been using my new desktop for a couple months now but then grabbed my T430 to go to a friend's house and its suddenly running like shit. Many hours of Windows updates later and its still running weird; choppy and slow.

It's got a good quad core cpu, an SSD and 8gb ram, plus TPFanControl running on an aggressive curve; there should be no reason why its running so slowly

delete windows and put a normal OS on it.

>buying an old thinkpad and using windows on it
But why.

You should hack in a 1080p or 1440p screen

>stop using the most compatible OS that 70+% of people use

lolno

Hi guys, what’s the best recommended place to buy thinkpads? There’s virtually no one listing on craigslist in my area. I’m guessing y’all will say eBay, but is that actually trustworthy? I’ve always considered eBay as a sketchy site considering how easy it is to scam on that website.

Only buy from the ebay sellers that have highly positive ratings and/or have done lots and lots of transactions. Never buy from someone who's never sold anything on ebay before or from someone who has anything less than 80% rating. Also, ebay does a good job at protecting the customer and will offer their own refund policy.

that's a cute boy

i desisted on getting it desu.
but, should my w500 take 64ohm headphones without an external amp?

>being mass-market crap somehow makes it good
compatibility is literally only a problem for gaymers.
this is the the main reason linux (even ubuntu) is such a perfect pleb filter.

I bought a really good condition x220 off of r/thinkpadsforsale
looking around ebay, amazon, newegg, craigslist, etc yielded way too many results, most of them being either very overpriced or in terrible condition

Lenovo's website. Don't buy second hand trash just to fit in with people on a dumb forum.

>anti apple stickers
>satanya
>makes kde look like osx
you suck.

Who is this girl/boy?

I'm going to buy an actual docking station for my x220 with my tax refund. I've always loved the x220 keyboard, so what USB keyboard can I buy that'll give me the most similar feel when I'm in dock mode?

lenovo made external keyboards that used the same rubber domes and keys

What's the procedure for buying thinkpad batteries? The 9-cell that my X230 came with only lasts 2-3 hours, and replacement batteries are sometimes almost as expensive than the laptop itself. Are off-brand batteries okay?

Such as?

Lenovo SK-8855

is there seller for x200/x220 in Poland.

I want to buy lightweight machine for travel and best I can find is t4xx

My $110 X230 arrived, and my suspicions were correct:
>basically perfect condition (some standard small scuffs on the lid)
>fucky spacebar was easily fixed by removing it and adjusting one of the metal brackets
>128gb SSD
>9 cell battery that sat unused for 4 years, and has only had 36 cycles over the last 2 (my testing so far says ~10 hours of idling with the screen on per charge)
And here I was worried I might have overpaid lmao

Thinkpad is the THINKing man's laptop LOL GET IT???? HAHAH XDDDDDD

My w520 drives my 60 ohm AKGs perfectly fine. If that is any help.

Should I get the T60 or T61? What's a good price? I've seen as low ~$50 including shipping costs.

Apart from the bitchin' little trackball, this old legacy laptop also has a 3.5" floppy drive, serial/parallel connectors, VGA connector, and a PS/2 connector.

Attached: Trackball.jpg (3264x1836, 1.04M)

Nobody asked.

This isn't "retro laptop" general. It seems people have forgotten this.

This is THINKPADS and BUSINESS laptops only. No retro faggot tranny shit.

I'm sick and tired of having to police this general.

Let me get some sleep for once.

Anyone?

One which meets or exceeds the specs of the applications you intend to use.

X220 or if u can afford it the t440s

have a w540
laptop won't recognize my network adapter after clean install, what should I do? I've already searched for the product and downloaded the driver, but I can't get the adapter to install it.

No one asked for your "policing". It would be better if you just left.

is B140HAN01.3 the best panel for a T420 FHD swap?

Attached: s-l1600.jpg (1000x750, 119K)

I'd get T61 unless you want that 15" 4:3. T60 can't have more than 3GB RAM so you're constantly swapping if you open any modern web browser. They're probably both painfully slow.

Here in Poland you can find T60 and T61 in under 30$. Often they are damaged/locked though and it takes a lot of patience to find a good one. Fuck, I got 15" T60 for 25$ and it sits there waiting until I have spare money for an SSD because it's awfully slow with that old HDD.

My X201s gets pic related marks from keyboard. Does it mean I have wrong parts?

its the opposite, it quite literally has the shittiest trackpad out of all TPs

Attached: maxresdefault.jpg (1280x720, 111K)

Who here waiting for the T495 with Ryzen 3000 Pro chipsets?

Its only a $15 swap to the t450 trackpad. T440s sell super cheaper because of the shit trackpad. That is why they are SO amazing idiot.

The swap only takes 10 minutes.

T440, i5-4300U for 160 USD, yes or no?

Just bought a T520 on ebay. Anything I need to know about them? What plays up first?

Why is my T420 battery life so shit.
I can't even get out full 2 hours of use on it.
Windows 10, power saving enabled, CPU 5-50% limited. i5 2540M.
Battery is brand new.

which one do you have? 44 and 55++ are the best ones, if you bought a lower tier one well shiet

>Battery is brand new
it obviously isn't.
I got the shittiest battery you can get on the T420 that gets only to about 80% of the original capacity when fully charged and I still get at least 3h out of it

using the trackpad on a thinkpad, what the fuck is wrong with you?

My X220's wifi is dying now. It gets -5 ucode error when just slightly moving my laptop or randomly, and sometimes doesnt even startup. It's the intel centrino one.
Do you have a recommendation on a good wifi card?

>Battery is brand new.
Is it some fake chinkshit then? Obviously battery life is going to be shit. All the genuine ones are old as fuck at this point.

Found the illiterate shitskin.
You are subhuman.

The trackpoint is shit to use on it because there's no buttons for the nipple

You need to put in 3 SSDs (one in HDD bay, one in ultrabay(tm) and an mSATA) (unless you need WWAN then only two ;))
Upgrade to 16GB RAM
For quad core you should have **only** i7-3840QM or an underclocked/volted XM (go high or go home) with dedicated GPU fan/heat pipe assembly.

The you need to repaste your cpu with Ga (I guess you could also use Hg but for the love of god don't beathe in the fumes)

Replace wifu card with new wifu ac card and install battery mod + keyboard mod

Take chinkshit battery and replace cells, the chink batts dont have lenovo shit suicide switch also easier to take appart

I managed to tear apart the OEM battery clean af with hot knife, probably i can fit 6x LG's new 3600mAh cells.
Is it worth doing or it won't work? In this assembly it would be legit 77Wh.

I guess you can't into computers.
It's probably win10 installing some shit without your knowledge in the background, sucks that you are too bad to make the system your bitch instead of it being the other way around.

Absolutely.
I bought one with that Saniter kit from Aliexpress.
Forget the washers they pack in with it, the lcd bezel pushes onto the LCD if you install washers and you get bleeding all around.
Trick is to fit the board behind the panel but first you have to remove the wire harness and leave the bare wires flat.
The board itself doesn't interfere with panel but the cables on the end are too thick and push onto the screen causing the distortions.

aliexpress.com/item/SANITER-LCD-controller-board-kit-LVDS-cable-1920X1080-IPS-1080P-FHD-Screen-Kit-for-thinkpad-T430/32891792274.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.6e824c4dQJqdMs

this is the kit i bought, i sourced the lcd panel 2nd hand from ebay.

I don't regret it, its the best mod money can buy, also screen is better than my Dell U2412M monitor.

Since i managed to unwrap the cables i get perfect picture, 0 problems.
Only thing that's bad its that the B140.. panels are very sensitive to bending, and when you move the screen you get temporary bleeding all around which disappears once the screen is stable in place.

found the gnutard

I'm using a dual boot and was actually dead serious.

What's the avg ratio of single core performance of a modern laptop CPU compared to the x220/t420 generation? Same question with x230 and x61.

Attached: 1548713787217.jpg (717x720, 84K)

Which one do you prefer? Square or rectangle screen?

Attached: piZap_1555258461386.jpg (800x450, 172K)

>square or rectangle

Attached: 123124123541532.jpg (540x540, 38K)

Win 10 or 7?

Is it fair to say that thinkpads are the Lada Nivas of laptops?

Attached: 1553479777190.png (1920x1080, 821K)

>Windows update
Found the problem. Install any decent distro and it'll run like a charm

4:3 screens are comfier

I got my hands on a X200 for free. What would my best options for mods be?

4:3 for general use but anything like watching movies or playing games etc is still arguably better on a widescreen.

Install gentoo

Why doesn't Lenovo include thermal paste with motherboard replacements? I always have to use thermal paste I have gotten from HP or Dell. /on-site service slave

Anal or oral?

Didn't use a 4:3 screen for like 15 years, I can't tell anymore.

I remember not liking 16:9 when it became the norm, but I'm always skeptic at first.

fucking cock lost another auction battle for an X220i

does a docking station for a T420 need a driver or something to function? I never had one but I'm about to buy one and I want to know if I can immediately test the ports under linux w/o problems
