A lot of laptops already have cameras just above the screen. It is often good enough to use as an eye tracker.
It is quite possible there are far more eye trackers in use than you are aware of. Eye tracking data is a gold mine for advertisers, enabling them to quantify viewers, impact and optimize the details of the ads.

No idea if they're working on eye trackers or not. But they already have nano cams that they install into people's eyeballs. They insert it in the region known as the limbus. Mine was installed around 2012/2013 I'd say. My right eye itched every single morning for the first 2-3 months after the install. To this very day, if I'm not doing anything or thinking about anything intensely enough, I can sometimes feel its presence.
There, see? I can actually feel it right now because I'm thinking about it. Now I have to spend the next 20-30 minutes forgetting about it so I stop feeling it for the next week or 2.

The mere fact that it's nano-sized makes me wonder if it can even be seen. But thank you though. You gave me an idea. 2 or 3 years from now, I might try to track down a scientist type dude who can somehow manage to snap a photo of it.
Now, as to whether or not I can mange to find a guy somewhere in Guadalajara who can remove it for me in his garage, I dunno. I may very well have to just live long enough until the advent of the cyberpunk era in order to start looking into that option. I've been under surveillance since 1996/1997. All the usual standard fare stuff is done to me. Landline and smartphone taps, computer hacking, hidden cameras, and microphones. Also some more exotic stuff like through-the-wall radar. Whenever I leave my home, I'm always followed around either by car or on foot. There's also some higher-level surveillance such as mind reading as well as dream invasion. Basically, what you saw in the movie Inception was very real. Except it's all done remotely. The mind reading is done via something called remote neural monitoring, or RNM.
From a general vantage point, the reason they install nano-cams in certain people's eyeballs is because there's a bit of an overlap between the surveillance industry and voyeurism networks. Sometimes voyeurs hire surveillance contractors to do jobs for them. Even just for the sake of watching someone for merely entertainment purposes. They even have outright leaderboards. For things like porn, JAV, hentai, or whoever said the most Autist-like statement out loud within their own home.
On top of all that, I was placed on something called a slow-kill list. Some people are hired to beam me with directed energy weapons, or DEW's. They're either doing it from nearby houses in my neighborhood, or from an array of quadcopter drones hovering above.

Get some software for the webcam. I tried some linux packages, but couldn't get them working. Then tried eviacam on Win10 which is a head tilt tracker. Works pretty decent and is kinda fun
