Hey Jow Forums I no absolutely nothing about computers but it seems all the rich people I follow on twitter posting their comfy lives all work as programmers/engineers/etc all tech related fields I want to live that kind of life, so I need to get into Jow Forums
how fucked am I? I don't have the biggest iq and was never really all that into maths in school >how many of you got into this kind of industry because of the money? >did you start to enjoy it once you got a few years into it? >is an 80k job even realistic? or is that super high end for senior geniuses only?
Should I take not being into maths as a kid, as a sign that it's not for me as an adult? Do I need some innate gift for problem solving and abstract thougth or something like that? iq stuff

My primary motivation would be to have a life outside of the work I'm doing, I have a nagging feeling that going that that road is a recipe for misery and depression

Look into Crypto or Marketing.

I don't want to have to think about bills, and the cost of groceries. I want my chair to be real leather so it doesn't fucking fall apart in 6 months and I want to drive a car that isn't 15 years old with a broken clutch
It's the small things, if I just had a bigger income all these problems and worries would go away and there's so many different careers out there, surely there must one of that I will enjoy and not be soul crushing
I feel like I'm really going down the wrong path here by thinking about this, has anyone else done basically the same thing? Gotten into tech because it pays alot of money
Jacob Jenkins
i just fcking told you retard.
crypto or marketing.
Jeremiah Collins
I mean I'll look into it but where do you think I'll end up if I go down this road? Is it possible to enjoy something that you never really cared about as a kid (the fundamental concepts of maths and statistics)?
Do I have my goals and priorities in the right place? Should I be approaching a career first and foremost as something I enjoy?
Jonathan Fisher
You don't need any skills in either of these fields too be successful.
Online marketing is no different from door to door salesman.
For Crypto all you have to do is mine/buy coins that no-one has heard of which are dime a dozen and then shill it and sell at the pump.

>>how many of you got into this kind of industry because of the money? I got into the industry because I had a genuine interest in computers and programming from before.
>>did you start to enjoy it once you got a few years into it? I enjoyed it from the start, but I have been disillusioned on my path where I am today.
>>is an 80k job even realistic? or is that super high end for senior geniuses only? Depends on where you live. In the US or western Europe, sure. In Romania, not so much.
Joseph Peterson
You became disillusioned? is the money not worth it?
Also yes sorry I didn't mentioned, I am from the UK, I'm certain there's the big city coding industry over here
Adam Gray

If you wanted a life of leisure without financial worry, you should have been born to a rich family and became a capitalist. Since you weren't, you are almost certainly destined to a life of indentured servitude. Your best bet is to either autistically spend 5-10 years of your life developing a high paying skill and hope you don't get automated out of your job later on, or service markets that capitalists can't (e.g. sell drugs on the darknet)
Enjoy.
Angel Evans
Honest answer: just start learning now. There's no secret to it, just hard wirk
Thomas Ramirez
Yes that's what I'm going for the 5-10 years developing a high paying skill and hoping it'll keep me employed for 30 years What I must know, what do you mean by "autistically spend 5-..."? if you mean 4 hours of study a day that's fine, I can do that but if you mean 10 hours a day only with 140 iq then I understand that it's out of my reach

This. Drawing porn is easily richdream profession nowadays, if you get good then 30k per month through patreon and commissios is pretty much guaranteed
James Edwards
Not OP but Ive been studying and obtaining certs (network+ as of recent) and I dont know where to continue now I can get into Sec+ but I want to try my hand at programming or webdev, any ideas on where to start or is it literally just codecademy and freecodecamp?
Isaac Rodriguez
This is the gravy train you want, check some art books out of the library

In order to be extremely good at something, to the point where your skill will be worth a million+ a year, you'll basically need to dedicate your life to it for a minimum of five years, hopefully finding a mentor that is in that position already. This is actually not impossible, just try to get in touch with the people in your area or an area accessible to you that are doing what you want to be doing and offer free help if they teach you game. Get textbooks on your desired skill and get reading material from the very best people in your desired line of work. You can skip getting jewed by schools and loans if you do this right.
As long as you're not unironically mentally handicapped in some way, your IQ won't matter. Anyone of average intelligence can become an expert in a field given enough time. You can learn anything, seriously.
Finally? Apply for work without a resume. Walk into the offices and say you want to speak to a manager. Explain you're an autist that dropped out of school to use your time specializing your own education. Lie if you have to. Tell them you will work for free as a trial to prove your value to the company. They will almost certainly say yes.
Then, if you're like me, you'll become nihilistic and quit, preferring to post on Jow Forums rather than be another rat trying to ascend the capitalist rat hierarchy.

You're not going to make it into IT. Don't even bother. Field is becoming harder and harder to get into because of younger and smarter than you. Sell groceries instead.
Elijah Wright
If you go into with that kinda motivation you'll never be satisfied, or find "enough". IF that kinda plan works out then you'll start by having what you "need" taken care of and more of your "wants" will turn into "needs". Once that happens you're gonna be back to square one and just be unhappy again.
Thinking about it your work as programmer is made more rich company you work.

For it to be fun to you, you should LOVE problem solving. And thinking out of the box is necessary to come up with the best solutions

You might want to learn how to draw instead, Artists are making 1 image per month and also making $5,000 dollars per month on Patreon.

I'm from/ic/. You're well out of your mind if you seriously believe that.
As I seen other post suggesting that, learning how to draw and paint is more complex dev monkeys' job, takes more time and you get undercut by mid 20's tumblrinas and kids who see 10$ and think of it as of profit rather than less money per hour than if they were flipping burgers. Adult stuff artists are literal memes that get paid till people get tired of their artstyle. Nothing to base your life and future on past age of 18-20.
