Gorilla Glass scratches pretty easily, its tempered so that it doesn't shatter, which means its vulnerable to scratching. You can only have one or the other, and the focus for manufacturer is to prevent screens from exploding into a million pieces when dropped.

have u seen any scratch test in the last 2 years
5 and after is unscratchable

Scratch test don't translate well to real world usage, I've seen a lot of scratched Gorilla Glass phones, both in person and on eBay/classified listings. Earlier versions of GG unironically scratches less, because they're focused on anti-scratch rather than anti-drop, you can't have both. You improve one aspect and you lose the other.

>5 and after is unscratchable
lmao no, tell that to my XZ1 Compact with a few small scratches on the display (it's GG5 btw)

And if you look at the scratch tests by JerryRigEverything, it's always the same story, "scratches at level 6, with deeper grooves at level 7" no matter if it's Gorilla Glass 3 or 6, or anything between.

It got drowned out by the exploding battery problem, but the Note 7 with GG5 had worse performance than GG3/GG4, with scratches appearing when using a pick with a Moh 3, when older versions required a Moh 5/6. Other devices has similar performance

Why aren't you on the Xiaomi.eu ROM? It's getting weekly updates:
xiaomi.eu/community/threads/9-4-11-12.50070/

Any of you dudes ordered an Mi 9 from HK Goldway on Ali? I'm looking at the 6/128 global model and there are no buyer reviews for it, so it makes me think if I order I'll play the chinked game where they stall until they get it in stock.

I have no idea how to unlock or install a custom recovery for it. I successfully tried that on an old Samsung. I'm yet yo find any updated tutorials on YouTube that isn't in pajeet.
Also, I need all the files for the upcoming exams.

Anyone experience with rooting Android Go on Nokias?

Redmi Note 7 arrives today. Wish me luck lads. MIUI fucking scares me. If it's as shit as I've heard I may just return it.

I'm finally in the market for a "new" phone, looking to upgrade from a Note 2 to a newer version. I see there's a new Galaxy out, are they also releasing a new Note along with it? I use a note because I'm a drawfag, so the pen screen is a big selling point to me but the "new"ness of the phone itself doesn't really matter too much, so I'd be fine with getting an older model of Note if the newest ones don't really improve on the pen much.

Note 9 is the newest one available, Note 10 will likely come in August as usual.

>I may just return it
what is wrong with westerners and returning shit they buy? respect your purchase please. imagine running a business and getting your things in return from greasy customers "trying out" the products..

>MIUI fucking scares me. If it's as shit as I've heard I may just return it.
Or you could've waited until custom ROMs arrive, like you should have anyway. You can disable all Xiaomi software through ADB in the meantime though.

When it's out do you expect the price of the 9 drop for a new one? I know jackshit about phone pricing, as evidenced by the fact that the last time I got one it was a note 2 when it was still a bit new.
I'm on the fence about getting a used one off craigslist or ebay or wherever since I'm paranoid about breaking the thing immediately after getting it because I'm a dumb gorilla.

Can I dirty flash unofficial lineage 16 to a new unofficial lineage 16? I'm still on December build cause I am too lazy to backup all my memephotos and porn.

You can. But make sure the maintainer is the same, so the builds don't really differ except for bug fixes and such.

help my wifi connection speed drops drastically (from 20mbps to

Attached: 1550212394815.jpg (497x497, 29K)

Does the phone support 5ghz WiFi?

Thanks. So just the zip? What about the vendor firmware thingie? Do I need to update it too?

>So just the zip?
Pretty much.
>What about the vendor firmware thingie? Do I need to update it too?
I believe maintainers include these updates in the flashable zip files.

no and neither does my router, i have only ~20mbps connection so there's no reason to pay extra for a 5ghz router, especially when the signal would go to shit and i live in a pretty big house.
just disabled power saving and the wifi speed with bluetooth on is a little bit better, but still about 4 times slower than with bluetooth off. mind you i already tried switching channels and channel width in my router settings.

Not for pocomeme though. So I'll just flash it to play safe I suppose. Do I need to flash magisk after that too?

Instructions :

Download the latest build and GApps
Reboot to recovery
Flash pie vendor and firmware
Flash the latest build and GApps
Reboot

>Do I need to flash magisk after that too?
It has a flash survival script though, so no.

I want my phone to last, /spg/. How big of an weakpoint is the slider when it comes to general use and drops? I dont take selfies at all though but I do drop my phone regularly

Attached: xiaomi-mi-mix-3-review-7467-1920x1280.jpg (1920x1280, 273K)

Past warranty, things are going to last as long as you take good care of them user

It just happens that I have stock miui today because testing something (RN3P) and have just tried this with my BT headphones. I can confirm a download speed drop of ~50% on repeated tests with upload being unaffected by Bluetooth.

Thanks, you're a good man.

The Mi Mix 3 was tested to last over 600,000 slides without breaking so durability shouldn't be a issue in that regard.

>I do drop my phone regularly
The screen will break long before the mechanism does

Redmi Note 7 Pro or Poco 128 GB? I can get them at the same price. Or should I just save the $75 and get a 4/64 Note 7?

675 vs 845 but so much less ugly due to no notch.

In general use it is unlikely to fail. In case of a drop, things are a bit different. The mechanism will survive no problem, but the screen, being distanced from the frame is rather exposed, which is why Xiaomi put that plastic around it, to absorb and transfer away some of the impact force. I would definitely use a case that extends a bit over the edge of the screen.

just tested upload speed and indeed it doesn't get affected by bluetooth being enabled. i'm on miui global 8.5. never updated to miui 9 because heard of people having problems + i learned to never update unless there's something broken because more often than not the official rom updates fuck up battery life and other shit plus i dont want to factory reset my phone because i did a lot of customization.
i just searched for patch notes for newer versions and couldn't find anything related to bluetooth.

I'd choose Poco for the better LTE compatibility and build quality

Just get the 4gb shitphone, you don't need sd845 or 8gb or whatever.

I've tested it on miui 10 so updating probably won't fix your problem, but it might alleviate it a bit considering my speed does not drop that drastically. The underlying cause is most likely a hardware limitation of the phone.

Stop falling for the flagship meme, unless you're a gaymur you won't need anything more than a bass Note 7. Hell, even these midrange processors are powerful enough these days to run gaymes

Looking for a smartphone for my birthday, and I have absolutely no idea what to get.

My current phone is a Nokia N73 from 2007; it's still working fine, but sometimes the software gives me trouble for no reason, and mms don't always get through.

With the new phone, I'd only call and text (including MMS); very little to no internet, no apps, no photos & videos, and no music (I've got my old mp3 player).

Size would be "something not too big", and budget can be up to ~1500€. No chinese brand, if possible.

Wat do?

Attached: 1487733727618.jpg (4980x5000, 967K)

>Hell, even these midrange processors are powerful enough these days to run gaymes
Not Fortknife't, but everything except that runs just fine.

iPhone se

If you have ever used the phrase "telephoto lense" then you need to hang yourself
Why? Cause I have only ever heard idiots use it so if you say it you must be a moron

Motorola Moto G7 Plus

Is this still a good deal?
All I want is a good camera/picture quality and custom rom support.
It is currently around ~300€ here.
The Moto G7 Power should be good too but has no optical stabilisation (if this is even doing something)

I will use it as my business phone and for that a good camera is needed.
No games, no 10 apps at the same time, no permanent daily use.

>iPhone se
Not only is Apple Chinese, this is the worst phone to buy perhaps ever. It doesn't even have an HD screen for crying out loud. It also lacks a micro SD card slot. Cameras are years behind, it's just stupid to even consider it.

i could try the modified miui from xiaomi.eu, but honestly i'm too afraid to have my shit getting fucked up. i don't experience any other bugs and i already have everything set up in a way i want it to be.

>I won't use my phone at all
>1500 pounds
go fuck yourself.
Fuck yourself.

Ugh that's actually disgusting

Xperia XZ1 for 200 quid.

What's the matter? It's a present.

I don't care about the HD screen, but a SD card slot is always a plus.

>I don't care about the HD screen
Of all things to not care about...

anyone knows a good case for the redmi note 4? most I find are either those ugly silicon ones that almost double the thickness or the reviews say it's basically a coin toss if it will fit properly or not.

Is the redmi note 7 very different from the note 7 pro?
I might need something in that range
Pocophone would be perfect but it doesn't support 4G in my country

Any other alternatives?
Can it be rooted and custom rom'd?

stop buying chinese phones

Attached: 1496393714317.jpg (273x270, 17K)

I'm sorry Mr. NSA, but their prices are simply better. You'll have to steal my data from the chinks now.

>Is the redmi note 7 very different from the note 7 pro?
It doesn't have a real 48MP sensor, whereas the Redmi Note 7 Pro with a Snapdragon 675 does. The Redmi Note 7 is global, but the Redmi Note 7 Pro isn't.

okay insect

Yes you're right I did some research and GG4 had the highest Moh reistance, even tho by a slim margin

Even then, keys in your pocket, as originally stated, cannot stratch a GG protected phone (not on the glass part)

That was clearly a glitch, since other devices have the GG5 and perform excellently in scratch tests

>my iPhone is made in USA because Tim said so!

>tfw dropped my P20Pro on concrete and tiling 50+ times from waist height and anything is yet to happen to it

I think I'm just very lucky

oie is pretty important if you have shaky hands but want to take pictures. imo its completely worth the investment

or is a used LG G6 for 150€ the better option?

>oie
fuck. i meant OIS lmao

Probably a dumb question.
How easily do phone screen scratch these days? Last one I had that I didn't use a screen protector for was the Xperia X10 which was some cheap plastic/class front. Do modern phones scratch as easily through everyday use?

Attached: fajb_phone_scratch_fix_01_jul2014(1).jpg (500x375, 36K)

from personal experience, if you don't drop them or put them into the same pocket as your keys they are fine.
but then I also constantly see people with smashed displays so who knows if that's a representative experience.

>if you don't drop them or put them into the same pocket as your keys they are fine.
but we already estabilished that even GG post 4 with a hardness of 5/6 cannot be scratched by keys in your pocket

Just get a $3 tempered glass uncle Scrooge.

Once my wife smashed my phone on the ground screen down after an argument. The damage looked really bad so I didn't even remove the tempered glass cause I didn't want the screen to break into pieces and went to the service center a few days later. They remove the tempered glass and behold, immaculate screen.

Yeeeeeaaaaaahhhhh. One word - careful, it's a scary one - Huawei and Huawei's P30 Pro. Literally a leader in smartphone camera hardware.

>it's shit shit shit shit shit shit shit
Not a very good argument.

I literally don't know what to buy
Samsung is bloated cancer, Pixels have the worst QC in the industry, OnePlus has shit cameras and a single speaker on the bottom, it's all so pozzed I think I'm gonna man up and get the Pixel 3.

Huawei cameras are a joke, garbage post processing, beauty filters. Looks like ass.

it's a tiny teardrop barely noticeable, without one it would be much taller

why does anyone care about this? are you one of the autistic zoomies who go around blasting music off their phones?

Is there a chink phone equivalent of the Galaxy S9? The closest I can think of is the Mi 9 SE.

Because they steal DSLR's and claim it as their phone's.

yes there's a global conspiracy of all reviewer AND amateur photographers faking the P30/pro shots using DLSRs

The issue isn't key, but dusts/sands/grits, anythiing with quartz on it. They're small, they can get into pockets and other storage places, and they absolutely decimate GGs.

Ultimately, GG are a nice addition, and they do prevent scratches from common sources like keys and coins, but they're not the be-all-end-all solution. If you want to keep a phone in mint condition, you're going to need a case + screen protector, or maybe a boomer hip holder

Most durable, toughest phones?

>Is this still a good deal?

^ I dont care about those, what would be the best phone for me when all I need is a n okay camera and big fucking battery?

still using a S7

I'm not worried about dropping it, just generally using and moving it around like in and out of my pockets.

yeah but without optical stabilizer.

Meh I think I scratch that one from the list.
Mi Mix 2 or Pocophone.
How good is the custom rom support for these 2?

>key
No one mentioned key aside from you, not even from the last thread. The original statement claims that gorilla glass 5 or newer is impossible to scratch, which is clearly false.

That's the power of Huawei marketing at work, paid articles and they keep on drilling into our Yuropoor heads that they have the best, professional-grade cameras and other nonsense like that. Mind you it's still far better than that disaster Samsung decided to bring upon our lands this year.

Attached: 16-36-14-gk1k4h5g8gr21-1-768x962.jpg (768x962, 55K)
