How the fuck are they gonna fit all this into a $400 machine??

Sell it at loss. As always.
en.wikipedia.org
Sony will lose billions again like PS3 era and hopefully it kills the mentally ill tranny supporting censorship company once and for all
Selling at a loss and taking extra cut on the games, like they always did?
>>god tier SSD
Doubt it.
Considering the size of games are getting huge (50+ gigs) there is no way for that. Will probablly just be a 1tb 7200rpm harddrive
This
Idk man they sure are talking it up quite a bit.
But yeah i doubt it'll be bigger than 1 TB, maybe 2.
If they include an SSD at all it'll be some super budget tier QLC drive, limited capacity, the type of thing you see on Newegg for $50. The storage game isn't changing much any time soon. HDDs are still slow, SSDs are still expensive, and there is nothing on the horizon which will change that any time soon.
The PS4 sold for a profit.
The PS3 was selling at a profit after a couple years. The revised models were profitable at launch.
>8-cores
(lol at AMDrones thinking it will be a 12/16-core fantasy
Kek
> getting huge
what? getting? it's like you've never seen the size of ps4 or pc games before.
it's wired. when they're not snitching to the government, they talk up every bit of bullshit that crosses their path.
>The PS4 sold for a profit.
Wrong.
See
desu a hybrid drive makes a lot of sense in a console. Make the SSD big enough to store one game, and ya done.
I'm guessing it will likely be a hybrid drive or a spinning platter+QuantX (intel optane, but without the intel bending)
>it's like you've never seen the size of ps4 or pc games before.
I have... Why the fuck do you think I said that they're getting huge? 50GB games are not small user.
Sony President and CEO Kaz Hirai said at a corporate strategy meeting this week that the PS4 launch has been “hugely successful,” but notes Sony needs to continue growing the install base -- which is currently around 7 million.
“From a profitability perspective, PS4 is also already contributing profit on a hardware unit basis, establishing a very different business framework from that of previous platform businesses," Hirai said.
Eat shit, kid.
illiterate cunt. you said they're getting huge. they've been fucking huge for years. clean your fucking glasses or learn to read.
what an idiot. this thread is complete cancer full of idiots. im out. go fuck yourselves.
"Masayasu Ito, Sony Computer Entertainment senior vice president, has admitted that for every PS4 console sold, Sony will be losing money. In other words, the cost of manufacturing and shipping the console costs more than the retail price. However, the loss is not going to be that great, and the company believes it will easily make the money back from the sales of games and PlayStation Plus subscriptions alongside the hardware."
SUCK MY DICK
>bunch of censored games I can play on my PC anyway
>soulsborne is dead thanks to Sekiro's success
Yawn. Traditional console gaming needs to die already. Also fuck Nintendo.
Enjoy having no friends in your house, paying twice the price for the same performance, sitting on your nerd chair with you big fat american ass, playing with cheaters, and having to spend 2hours in the setting to not get a crash every 5 mn.
The PS4 only has SATA 2 interface for drives, so peak read and writes are severely crippled compared to what the controllers are actually capable of. Stepping up from this with some budget QLC drive doesn't take much. Just having SATA 3 would be a huge improvement. If they actually went NVMe it'd allow for IOPS a magnitude faster, and they could still use dirt cheap QLC.
Hirai said in May right after the system launched that they were profitable on hardware sales. Only half a year after launch. The original BOM was estimated at $370-$380.
Get fucked, little kid.
and it'll still run shit at checkerboard 4k sub 30 fps
what the fuck is even the point of owning a console
I have a GF and mainly play fighting games.
+1. Five minutes of googling shows that the components cost $381 when sold for $399. Factor in shipping, handling and retailer profit, not to mention marketing and it's definitely a loss.
>Things that doesn't happen: the post
Feel free to not reply to me anytime.
A mild upgrade over the Xbox One X would allow for native 4k 60fps. They already do native 4K and 20-30fps in some titles. All this accomplished with a CPU still derived from the Jaguar core and a GPU with less performance than the stock RX480.
I don't know why people think that you can't have people over and play PC games. I've got 3 computers in my house, I keep all of my old parts and use them for secondary PCs that friends hop on to to play lan games or shit like Path of Exile as a group. So we're not on a couch, we're still like 3 feet away from one another.
So you admit that you were wrong. Good, some improvements at least.
Don't forget to buy Red Dead Redemption 2 Remastered, exclusively for PS5 and Xbone 2!
you know that devs will just prioritize graphics over framerate like they always do, especially with the new shiny ray tracing meme. until shit like Nioh's modes are regularly implemented that allow for configuration of your system to change performance across all games, consoles will always be shit
That's fucking nuts, how do they manage to perform that much better than PCs in the same range?
The PS4 was selling at a profit as of mid 2014. You had absolutely no idea what you were talking about, and even when confronted by words straight from the CEO's mouth you grasp at straws.
I bet you're black.
PC games don't have everything optimized for a single set of hardware, console games have to do this, or they'd run terribly.
You first post implies that ps4 always sold at profit which is wrong. YES they made way more profits than the ps3, but they still had to sell it at lost in its first months.
Therefore we can expect the same for the ps5.
>I bet you're black.
I was. What's it to you?
>or they'd run terribly
But they DO run terrybly. 20 fps is NOT ok
don't hybrid drives use solid state part as a cache?
>I have a GF
asukafag spotted
So the playstation is now dev by americans.
What went so wrong with japs? Why can't they code anymore?
Worse than they do now.
The CPU component of the PS4 and Xbone is a super tiny low power core, and they're clocked pretty low in each system. Its a miracle that the games run as well as they do.
>Happening Status:
IT'S
N
>downloading games
this is the streaming era, old man. the day of physical media and games saved on hard disks are over. that SSD will be nothing more than a cache for shaders and local game saves.
If Both Nvidia and Radeons will have Ray Tracing technologies how THE FUCK will Devs optimize both of them? This is fragmentation at its best
>How the fuck are they gonna fit all this into a $400 machine??
by using off the shelf zen and navi chips which AMD is mass producing anyways. Remember that all ryzen CPUs use the same chip, so while a 2700x costs $300, its really costs amd something more like $50-60 per chip.
The gpu will be more expensive because its a larger die and a lower volume product, but theres no way they'd be paying more than $150 a chip in that regard.
So Sony gets a hot deal from AMD because they order millions of chips at a time, nvme SSDs are also really cheap especially in orders of millions at a time, and sony makes their mainboards in house. The ps5 might be a loss leader for the first year, maybe first two if 7nm is more expensive than originally thought, but over time manufacturing costs will go down significantly.
>falling for consoles again
it gets shitter even generation and this generation was absolutely trash
It'll be a semi-custom APU, not an MCM with generic dies of their consumer components.
>Remember that all ryzen CPUs use the same chip, so while a 2700x costs $300, its really costs amd something more like $50-60 per chip.
>AMDrones actually believe this
RTRT accelerators are fairly generic.
ZPs are dirt cheap.
>ZPs are dirt cheap.
will we ever know the price to produce 1 wafer with 7nm chips?
No, unless you work at TSMC or one of their bigger customers.
shame. would love to know it. maybe we get a leak or so
It did, why do you think the hardware was so shit
Should be >$10k a wafer on ramp.
>The PS4 sold for a profit.
Some time after launch when component and production costs decreased.
People just want to play some games and not masturbate over frame rates and resolutions like PCMR virgin losers do.
but all console owners and devs talk about is how graphics look, nobody in the industry actually cares about performance anymore other than a few smaller PC devs, the announcement for this for example talked about nothing but new and shiny, if console manufacturers actually cared about making a good product they would advertise things like dp, high refresh rate compatibility, and backwards compatibility.
Games have been looking good enough for 15 years.
>$400 machine
it's not gonna be a $400 machine, it'll launch at 500+ at loss, like they did with the ps3
>but all console owners and devs talk about is how graphics look, nobody in the industry actually cares about performance.
i think you're mistaking the console owners/devs for the PC crowd here.
They're gonna sell a $600 machine for $400 and easily make $1000 per unit sold within the first year on average. Consider all the accessories, services and games you have buy from Sony once you have the box. These are the high-margin items that they use to actually make their billions. You think those microtransactions are going 100% to the developers and studios? Sony is taking a huge cut of that and the studios gladly let them because the audience is so massive.
The discrepancy is probably due to how they calculate costs. The guy saying it's profitable probably calculated costs only as the materials that went into it, and the other guy proportionately included labor, factory expenses, rent, etc. for each ps4 sold.
Why do consoles upset incels so much?
You can play PUBG on your red light district looking pc forever
>8 cores for games using engines patched together since 2005 that might utilize 1.5 at best
>4 cores for social media, streaming, hypervisor and other nazi shit that keeps you out of the very hardware you supposedly own
I don't really need 4k. I also don't need 60 fps.
I don't own a console and only do some casual gaming, but some of my friends have a PS4 and it's just fine.
The good thing is, that it really just wörks.
>How the fuck are they gonna fit all this into a $400 machine??
By building something equivalent to a mid-end PC like they did with the PS4, then cheap out on as many other components as possible, like the shitty WiFi chip on the PS4.
>Zen 2
>Navi
They'll probably use a $90 consumer chip, which probably costs around $30 for OEMs.
>ray tracing
Sure, "ray tracing", just like their checkerboard "4K".
>god tier SSD
Don't kid yourself. SLC SSDs cost an arm and a leg. It'll be gimped QLC SSD, or a hybrid drive.
xbox one x has had native 4k games for ages you mong. Next gen will literally be nothing but 4k 60fps, which is great. I'll be stuck with 1440p 60fps on my pc because it costs too fucking much to compete. I'm only still here for the free games and optimisation.
>would allow for native 4k 60fps
That's not how it works. It'll run as good as devs decide it make. Even og ps4/one could've run all games at 4k 60fps, but with ps3 visuals. It'll be the very same with ps5 - 2 years after release we will get 1080p30fps(with dips to low 20s) vidya, but with muh blur/occlusion and 100 different shaders on a horse's dick in rdr2 """hd"""
Does anyone here remember the time when consoles were more powerful than PC? This will happen again
see this, except ray tracing will probably be fully implemented but super slow and resolution limited
Kinda how technically, TheyBreakGames managed to port planetside 2 to ps4, but it ran so horribly (even considering it was planetside 2) nobody really bothered to keep playing
>Ray tracing
That's some wishful fucking thinking right there.
Reminds me of the PS3 being "1080P games"
1 generation later, and games are still upscaled 900p locked at 30 fps with some scenes dropping below 24 fps.
Exactly. We had a greater focus on locked frame rates in the the GC era. Ever since then it's been an outright lie regarding resolution or the new "dynamic scaling" meme to dance around the fact you couldn't get your game to run consistently.
Notable exceptions go to MGSV and the like.
>consoles were more powerful than PC?
Never? They were more powerful than pc with the same price, but never more powerful overall.
They sell it at a loss at launch then refine and streamline the manufacturing process to increase margins.
I think you're remembering wrong
CryTek just recently published a tech demo of their new in-house ray tracing tech.
This shit literally runs on a consumer level AMD card.
I’ll get one as long as devs refuse to make linux port
>SLC SSD
Slc were the very first garbage-tier ssds though.
SONY WILL MAKE LINUX INSTALLABLE ON PS5 CONFIRMED.
OFFICIAL PS5 SONY BRANDED LINUX INSTILLATION DISCS
>consoles were more powerful than PC?
It was for a very brief moment during PS3's launch. What the Cell was (theoretically) able to pull was really good for its time. PC GPUs soon caught up though.
Other than that, consoles traditionally got their "power" from using exotic hardware, like the PS2 using many different kinds of processors.
Waiting for a digital foundry breakdown of the tech.
They're not going to make that mistake again.
It would've been nice if they'd sold the hardware at a profit and let you install Gentoo, but that was never going to happen.
Kek.... wishful thinking.
fali0verflow almost got into legal trouble with Sony for their Linux on PS4 demo.
No console is initially sold for profit, unless we are talking about Nintendo.
Was on your side of this but you sound like youve never met a black person. Only a white person would grasp at straws like that. Black people usually admit they're wrong.
>What the Cell was (theoretically) able to pull was really good for its time
But not better than xeon workstations with quadros.
QLC was basically made for applications like this with consoles. It'll perform well enough.
The PS4 was sold at a loss? I don't think so.
Why in the actual fuck would they even consider SSD as a viable alternative to HDD for a console you fucking retard? All they have to do is put a 7200 rpm HDD with 32MB of cache or even anything higher than 8MB really and call it a day.
>tis teh current year
>ssds are so last year !!!!!!!1!11
Fuck you
>calls me retarded
>for something Sony is doing
Call down your impotent rage, autist.
>Ray tracing
>Actual 4K/60FPS
>On baby's first PC
>At a reasonable price
>Hollow promises: The console
They've done this for just about every modern console--when will you guys fucking learn.
Just wait until the eventual slim version that fixes all the outstanding issues from launch.
Or better yet, buy 'broken' consoles on eBay and repair them yourself, if you're that dead-set on getting a launch model.
>trusting intelaviv
Ha! After the year 2018 I can no longer take seriously anyone who even mentions anything Intel.
>let me pull le ebin trump card to own u
bloody DUNKED on this retard with FACTS and LOGIC
I wouldn't say god tier ssd, but I mean it shows how much ssd prices have come down when yesterday Amazon had a 1tb Sandisk ssd plus for under 100$ so think how cheap it would be for sony buying millions for their consoles
Don't we have a board for children's toys?
This. There's a reason Sony and Microsoft focus so much on "install base". Getting these devices into people's homes is more important to them than making a profit on the console when you buy it.
>a $90 consumer chip
AMD's making custom chips for the PS5 as always.
Looking at SSD prices it's not that strange that they would consider using SSDs in the PS5. Prices have come down a lot. A 500 GB SSD used to be $200, not it's possible to get one for $50.
Same guy. I don't own any of the current gen consoles, are the load times so bad this gen that they're considering SSD? If not then it is a ploy of their marketing guys. If you really think a console needs an SSD, you truly are retarded.
>buy broken consoles
this. I got a ps4 that was "for parts" for 120 a year after launch and all I had to do was buy a new bt/wifi antenna and connector for it (~15 bucks)
I bet it will be a kingston a400 480gb ssd.
