this. 90% of the time I feel like listening to something would distract me. When I'm doing UI design or some other work that doesn't require actual concentration I'll listen to either JRE or Shapiro show.
Still trying to wrangle your own mind, huh? You ever have any success catching it?
Your brain ain't a zero sum game, android.

Depends on my mood really
Instead of writing
class Foo {
private
int thing
public
int getThing(){ return this.thing; }
void setThing(int newThing) { this.thing = newThing }
}
Foo foo = new Foo()
Foo.setThing(1)
They wrote
struct Foo {
int thing;
}
Foo foo = { 1 };
Com Truise is God tier programming music, also I discovered makes a great soundtrack for the first system shock
That’s weird. Music doesn’t distract me in the least. It actually helps me focus.
With that said metal the more fast paced and rhythmic the better. Keeps me concentrated for some reason. While for reading I usually listen to blues/blues-rock.
animal collective
I used to listen to my lofi fm station through raspi but lately realized a lot of things. Its perfectly ok if I am doing calculations or number crunching for uni, but when I get creative, music doesn't help shit, its like my inner voices get drowned by the different sounds. So lately, for studying or number crunching I listen to lofi or garage like burial where the brain doesn't give much heed to the noises. For coding or other things which require creativity I just play ambient forest sounds of birds chirping far across the room in a speaker with the room in dim yellowish red led lights so it matches with the blue light filter so that I feel like I'm coding in some isolated rainforest or some shit.
Symphony of Farts: by Stoya
God tier album. The rest of their stuff doesn’t hit me as hard though
90s trance

Varies for me, i tend to have a better time listening to heavier things like Ghostmane or 90s MeloDeath but sometimes will listen to mellower stuff like The Strokes or Tame Impala
chillhop
btw I feel like songs about violence and murdering people calm me down. When I'm working I can get tense and frustrated. I want to hear something that is about taking out your aggression, that's cathartic. If I'm trying to work and there's something happy and peaceful in the background it can piss me off sometimes because I don't feel very happy or peaceful.
The Sound of Silence
I listen to my manager bitching to everyone.
>That’s weird. Music doesn’t distract me in the least. It actually helps me focus.
Same, if anything I tend to out focus the music and completely tune it out of my brain. Have moments where I suddenly become aware that I still have music playing.
Yeah that happens to me too sometimes. The music prevents me from getting distracted by other sounds as long as I'm wearing headphones.

Hardcore/UK Hardcore/Happy Hardcore is extremely underrated programming music.
I dont, I either works or meditation in silent. Learn to meditate to have a happier life user

Amiga music, cracktro loaders, etc
Part of me just thinks the technology is cool but it's legitimately appealing to me even when I realize I'm actually listening to some nerds extremely shitty rendition of a 90s pop song. I wish I could find actual music and albums I like.
I find that kind of music to be highly reflective of the electronic music scenes around the time they were released. That kind of music is more about singles than albums. If you find something that interests you the recommended videos on youtube can send you down a rabbit hole.
What dyou guys think about lo-fi?

Not bad, sometimes Youtube autoplay finds me some decent stuff like this from nowhere.
I've been listening to this one band for a while now and they've now replaced Ghost as my favorite band. I don't think they'll ever get replaced as my #1.

Musicals, weirdly.
Nothing because I want to be ready to help my coworkers out if they have problems, or ask for assistance if I need it. Occasionally when I really do need to focus and cannot use distractions, I'll put some Enya albums on repeat.
Aphex twin.
picrel is my favorite coding album.
