How hot do newer X series get when connected to external hd monitor?
My x220 got pretty hot, like 60 degrees, 70+ when playing youtube. are newer ones cooler?

I'm buying a new laptop. Jow Forums seems to recommend only thinkpads and only used.
Which are my best options for a brand new laptop? It's for a family member who's not very savvy.

got a 3rd gen x1 carbon on the way, pretty cheap too

What's /tpg/'s take on the Asus X series? I bought one for my mother 4 years ago and, since she doesn't want a desktop, I'm tempted to buy an updated one when the current gives up the ghost.

Has anyone corebooted a W520 here? Does it fuck up the hybrid graphics switching?

what is the ideal thinkpad to run classic wow in a few months and watch anime all day?

None that these niggers will suggest. Nupads bag duderino.

That’s your fans numbnuts

I want to send my t420 to an ebay corebooter but I don't know what I should tell him -- should I get ordinary coreboot? Should I get seabios? Will seabios make it no longer uefi? What functionality will I lose?

based
its a modified 7.3.5 client with old models, so a T420 era will probably do alright under windows. if you're using windows a t440p should be the best older thinkpad for the job. i find retail runs like shit on linux with my t440p. TBC runs like a dream however but thats older code. you might struggle with most laptops on retail, perhaps ubuntu might do better (im using devuan)

Caня, хyй cocи

Knowing on what site I am, I just hope that's a girl!

T450s, 5th Gen i5, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD, for $240 in my area.
Seems solid. Wonder if I should just find a T440s and switch the trackpad though

Is Killer 1102/AR5B22 the best blob-free hmc card for x230? Anything new with AC?

Attached: intel_7260_hmwnbwb_dual_band_802_11ac_wireless_ac_1392752977000_985499.jpg (345x345, 22K)

linux on any of the two, even windows 7 runs slow

i have t420 and would recommend it over the portable x series.

I am running Devuan with dwm

I work at a goodwill resale shop and today and couple of very obese neckbeards came charging towards me asking if "we have any thinkpads" these guys were so fat easily 300 pounds.

I hate fat people

Is there any way to buy one key from t420 keyboard? I somehow broke one

35w T430 CPU recs?

t20/21/22, a20/21/22 or some earlier like 600e maybe
i think you want a one with soundblaster compatible soundcard (pre AC'97)
they all have crap displays tho
dosbox is way easier...

i7-3612QM
>double dubs
me too user, although i'm kinda fat too.

i have my compy set up so that once it's done charging it just runs on the ac power
python was taking such a huge dump yesterday that the ac power wasn't enough i guess and it had to use the batteries too
never experienced that before

are you using a 65W adapter? Maybe that's the cause of it.

With the 3612QM I was only worried about thermal throttling. I know its 35w so it should be okay but i was debating a fast dual-core since it will be solely for school projects/programming and my desktop is the powerhouse. Thing is for alI know a higher clocked dual-core might get hot as well.

Where can I get new screws for my X230? Preferably somewhere in Europe.

also half the price for say a 3540m

what is the cheapest thinkpad i can get, i wanna dip my toe into the meme but i am poverty fag
like EXTREME POOR

T400, t60,

>noobuntu

how usable is the t400 in the modern web?
sorry for asking i have no idea of the preformance

my T400 with a 120gb SSD (optional) works fine for everything bar gaming (for gaming I use my T520 w/ quadro)

Stinkpads

low quality, try again.

Why the hell would someone mirror the laptop? Would it have been that hard to find a thinkpad in the correct orientation? Jeez...

Bump

kingspec

Attached: 1479755998970.png (1920x1080, 1.44M)

yeah it's 65w

is this some kind of joke?

Maybe he accidentally added an additional number or something

post your local craigslist

They use standard screw sizes. Typically M2x3 or M2x5 I believe, depending on where it's going. Simply walk into the hardware store and find 'em.

the first two sold for around 200 so something is definitely up

dassit. Try getting a 90W one.

So I'm new here, fell for the memepad.

x220
+ added an extra 4GB RAM for a total of 8GB
+ mini dock
+ SSD 240GB
+ coreboot (Seabios + seavgabios)
+ stripped down ME
+ additional payloads: coreinfo/memtest/nvramcui (needed the last one to swap the Fn & Ctrl)
+ bootsplash from booru
- Forced to use Shitbuntu because the manjaro ISO won't be recognised when booting from USB as it uses some UEFI crap presumably...

am I missing something? Should I get an IPS panel, is it really going to make a difference?

t.hanks

IPS is a nice upgrade but you probably won't be able to go back from it.
You should be able to boot Manjaro though, didn't have any problems with it on a xx10 series machine. What did you write the USB stick with?

is it worth upgrading from a x220 i5 tn to x230 i5 ips? the graphic upgrade from hd 3000 to 4000 and the usb 3 should make it worth it as well?

Is it worth it upgrading from a T520 (2720QM, 8GB, Intel HD, 1080p wide gamut, new 9 cell) to an HP 8570W for like $50?

It has a 3720QM runs much more efficient, 16gb, 1080p display and a quadro K2000M which is swappable.

tried both etcher and dd. In both cases, USB was found and when trying to boot from it, computer hanged. I read that the solution is to install grub payload in coreboot, but it won't compile for some reason (don't have the error now)

i would. 15'' HP's have 3 trackpoint buttons.
>a quadro K2000M which is swappable.
HP have a whitelist o certain components like TP's. Dell laptops do not have this shit iirc.

Any resources for general recommended "business" laptops of other brands? There seems to be some fairly cheap EliteBooks in my area

>There seems to be some fairly cheap EliteBooks in my area
like, which specific models?
it's totally worth it.

>like, which specific models?
I'm seeing, 2540p 8440p, they dont seem to be ancient shit tbqh

runs fine in 4:3 on low gfx on my x220

damn ubuntu can look this fresh? nice

>2540p 8440p
those are a pain in the ass for maintenance, specially the former.
try looking for 2560/2570p; 8460/8470p; 8560/8570p (or w)

>it's totally worth it.
alright you convinced me

i mean, apart from usb 3.0 and the IPS display, the igpu performance from sandy to ivy is quite substantial, while drawing less power and temps.
