I only recommend a custom ROM if your phone has official LineageOS support. Most other ROMs are pretty unreliable.

I've had quite a few Android phones over the past 10 years. Customs ROMs have always been more headache then they're worth. There's always that one thing that's broken and makes the whole thing useless. I always end up just going back to stock and root/debloat.

Just research this before buying. No use in buying a device with lackluster support and crying about it afterwards. Samsungs are a mixed bag for example and have been since the days of the S7.
