haha le dumb zoomer mehmeh

That is a hard disk. Personally, I prefer the the floppy ones because they are bigger and hold more memory. But you have to fold it to fit up to fit into the computer.

We both know you googled "floppy disk", downloaded some random image of one and posted this thread. I've seen much better attempts than this

That my friend is a Dyson 2HD dos format.
They were all the rage for a time.

Global Rule 7

This used to be able to save the world.

its the 1.44mb dual sided floppy disk
it was just another place to store word documents.
and drivers and so forth

windows 98 and windows 95 need it because they are fully dos installers

That's a 1.44mb floppy disk and I've in all seriousness got 5 of those things in a folder next to me right now.

My father apparently ordered a "photo-disk" in addition to regular pictures when he had film developed and he put the disks and negatives in folders with dates. There's also a bunch of CDs for film developed the following years.

I'm not sure it's worth the hassle of .. getting those floppies copied, though. 1.44mb and perhaps 20 pictures per floppy, exactly how good can those image-files be? As said, the negatives are there so I'm guessing it would be better to do something with those.

Anyway, that's my blog about floppies. Even if you haven't used them for 20 years someone might die and leave you a few.

Why aren't these things commonplace anymore anyway? Doesn't the principle behind them still work fine on any car?

Sage

it's a semi-magnetic microdisquette
it's what old people used to store porn and bbs posts on

That is a SD card plus. It stores the data.

first time i saw and used a digital camera was in 1999, a sony mavica
it took 1024x768 pictures directly onto 3.5" disks, iirc they were around 75KiB each
they looked pretty good, on a 14/15" XGA display, for the time
they were pretty cool, even if the quality wasn't as good as regular film, there's plenty to be said about the convenience of being able to;
- delete mistakes right after taking them
- use cheaper media
- not have to pay and wait to see what you took (easily the biggest advantage)
you could take a photo, get home, and print off the photo right away, which while the standard today (if you bother to print them at all, since nobody is far from a computer display nowadays), was amazing back them

We had an apple //c when I was little, so I unironically thought that the 5.25" floppies were "floppy disks" and the 3.5" disks were "hard disks"

Whuahahahahahaha!

Ones tried to recover data from an fucked up floppy disk. Did not have a great time.

Professional car thieves can saw through the steering wheel itself to open a space to release the lock. It's still good at deterring casuals, but then it has the drawback of drawing attention of the bad kind. "Hey, look at that. I wonder if this car is worth stealing, or at least breaking into!"
