For one, you're showing different frames for the two. For another, you appear to have VLC using accelerated decode, which it does by default. Hardware decode uses less power and works on slower devices, but has marginally lower quality. Since your CPU is obviously fast enough and you want the best quality, disable this feature.

You know MADVR supports all the same things as MPV and has additional shit on top right but just requires a lot of configuring based on your pc and screen attached. MADVR is the top on the market followed by MPV, VLC is for people who just want it to work out of the box

I've spent probably a dozen hours configuring both mpv and mpc-hc to compare them and both look 99.9% the same. It really just seems to come down what OS you're using and what program you like more.

You do understand that all that chart details is performance. It doesn't factor in other things such as noise and aliasing which can be a massive factor for older video.

Go download smplayer, select mpv only during setup. It'll set up a nice GUI with mpv as the backend and youtube-dl (which doesn't just play youtube, it plays basically everything) to stream shit automagically.
