Daily GIMP hate thread

I'll start:
>The GIMP plugin scene is a bit of a mess. Plugins used to be collected together in the GIMP Registry, but that no longer exists. Which means they’re now scattered around the internet.
>Some are also very old. In many cases they haven’t been updated in a decade or more. There’s no guarantee that plugins will play nicely with the newest versions of GIMP. Indeed, popular ones like the GIMP DDS plugin or BIMP are now abandoned and no longer work.

GIMP will always be shit because it's the most thankless FOSS project in existence. It will never matter how less shit it becomes because normies will screech and throw tantrums at anything that isn't a literal clone of Photoshop (which automatically wins because of cultural ubiquity, so even other proprietary products struggle to compete).

Sadly, it's still better than other gratis image editors.

I think you'll struggle to make this a daily thing, but bi-weekly might be alright.

I used a lot back in 2009 so I never can get into krita because my nostalgia for gimp.

Anyway these days I use inkscake 99% of the time, when you get a feel for the program no one compares as long as you not doing digital painting.

>normies will screech and throw tantrums at anything that isn't a literal clone of Photoshop
They're right on that though, a competitive product would be just as well or better. Given that Photoshop is the current pineapple of usability, a clone of it would be an appropriate answer by the FOSS community.

Nonetheless the real problem with Gimp is the default multi window interface, whoever thought this would be anything close to an good idea should be publicly shot.

This so much.

>BIMP are now abandoned and no longer work.
I'm sorry but it literally works on my machine. I use BIMP daily actually.
About the general plugins situation, they are actually making a repository that will work inside of gimp. If you want to see that happen sooner rather than later, you should contribute code or funds, instead of complaining on 4channel.

It's called Baby Duck Syndrome.

I miss save-for-web.
Gimp still has the same ability to set all the options to control image size on saving, but save-for-web put them all in one tabbed dialog box with slider controls and a live preview window.
No new version for gimp 2.10 afaik.

GIMP is annoying to learn how to use, but so is PS, and only slightly less so; the difference is that how PS works is well-known enough that everyone is used to it. The devs have made huge strides in usability over the last few years, including single window mode. That hasn't helped much because it doesn't address the main issue.
PS wins because it's PS. It's so ubiquitous that the name of the product has become a part of the modern English language. People automatically go to it for image editing even if they can't afford to get it legally, so Adobe simply has too much R&D money for anyone else to compete with, including other commercial software like PSP. It's why they don't bother making any their software any less of a resource-eating monster (it wouldn't surprise me if Adobe was singlehandedly driving the market for workstation GPUs).
It's objectively shit, but I still get fucking triggered when people use it as an example of FOSS.

>GIMP is annoying to learn how to use, but so is PS
No, it's not. That's the point. My brother got into PS just by openening it on my PC. Meanwhile I struggled with Gimp for a hard while when I made the change to Linux. There may be a point of filters and layers, but bottom line basic tools are by far more intuitive on PS, even if it may be just due to clean icons.
>The devs have made huge strides in usability over the last few years, including single window mode.
Useless, as few know that it exists to begin with. See my complaint about default interfacing.
>PS wins because it's PS.
Nah PS wins because its the best.
>It's why they don't bother making any their software any less of a resource-eating monster
Agreed, though why should they? Worst thing gpu manufacturers may even complain to them.
>It's objectively shit, but I still get fucking triggered when people use it as an example of FOSS.
Agreed, but I think we're getting there with more polished products like krita..

Oh, so this is just a photoshit shilling thread. My bad.
Mods, shut it down!

2.10 has gladly dropped this.

Photoshop did this for years, although it did make more sense (under pre-X MacOS, all windows belonging to an application were raised when the program was focused)

When Adobe's paid shills are so unknowledgeable about gimp, they need Google to find bad things to say about it.

Not the first time I've seen this kind of shit on Jow Forums

2.8 had single window view, too.

The guy who maintained gimp-script.org became ill, and with gimp 2.10 nearing release, nobody wanted to take it over, as many of the old scripts probably weren't going to work anyway.

Photoshop, Affinity Designer, Corel PhotoPaint, Pixelmator are all better than GIMP because their GUIs doesn't look like they have been made someone who needs a tard-wrangler close by.

sounds like a problem for uni-monitor plebs

The only ambiguity is whether OP is a google-reliant shill or just a plagarist.

>I can't make circles I wish this free software was as good as 1000$ software

There's still literally nothing wrong with GIMP.

there is something wrong with all gtk based software, not just GIMP
the development philosophy of gnome makes for extremely cancerous ux

>current pineapple of usability
is no one gonna point this out?

>"t. I pretend to be an artist by using prebaked Photoshop filters, and rake money from autistic furries with badly drawn porn"

Paint.net is better.

windows user?

well, i think i'm a normalfag and it wasn't all that difficult to go from photoshop to gimp. it's good enough for making memes and editing photos and shit. not sure if it would be good enough for (((professional))) photo editing but i don't give a shit. my sister likes it too and she draws shit. i suggested her krita but i don't think she likes it as much as gimp for some reason.

I personally thought it was pretty accurate, so I left it alone.

Well, he's not wrong

>and rake money from autistic furries with badly drawn porn
To be fair that's the only thing they are good for.

that hasn't been default since like 2.6 and that was copying the photoshop UI on mac that existed until like the mid 2000s
