Do these threads normally get shoad before 300?

My stax sounds too sterile and boring. Recommend me a fun can

dt 880

Dt1990 may be more your speed

Stax

Tbh if you want to id say invest in your Dac/amp now and get some amazing cheap earphones like koss portapros or ksc75, and pop everything else into like a fiio e10k or a topping dx3 pro

dt1990 or lcd2c

Fostex TH-X00

Guys I found DT990 which are cheaper than 880 and 770. Did I get lucky?

I'm planning to use Beyerdynamic for electronic music together with a Fiio E10K.
What headphones do you guys recommend for classical music?

>no bass

Spotify.

The DT990 is always cheaper than the 880 from what I've read.

the 990 is always cheaper because the 880 is their actually good headphone, unless you meant the 1990

Redpill on STAX for newbies: STAX is an old Jap company with outdated tech that was considered high end back in the 1960s and 1970s but sounds like ass by today's standards, so they went nearly bankrupt. They were purchased by a Chinese company for just a million dollars who decided to market STAX to the audiophool "more expensive is better" demographic who buys those crappy $3000 vinyl players, they shill heavily on HeadFi and here on /hpg/, plus they pay Zeos to shill their crap.

>In December 2011, Chinese loudspeaker manufacturer Edifier announced the acquisition of 100% equity in Stax

Oratory has measured the highest end STAX, the SR-009S.

dropbox.com/s/61srehjyaltd7w0/Stax SR-009S.pdf?dl=0

dropbox.com/s/dm0m6u3s3b4zqzl/Sennheiser HD600.pdf?dl=0

It's worse than the HD600. HD600 scored 92 and SR-009S scored 76.

Recently Rtings rated STAX across various dimension, it's worse in terms of sound than mid-priced offerings from Hifiman and Audeze, and only got a 7.7 rating.

i.imgur.com/W7hz3rh.png

In a separate study:

>The very highest end STAX ($4000 SR-009) was rated lower in blind tests than a $200 K701

aes.org/e-lib/browse.cfm?elib=17441

To add insult to overpriced injury, they have shitty plastic build quality that you would expect on cheap chinkshit headphones:

Oratory (respected sound engineer) on the build:

i.imgur.com/Dru4gzZ.png

Even best Stax headphones sound objectively worse than mid-fi. This is why they don't demo them in store, they rely on the internet to create a sense of mystique around STAX and shill it as the endgame because its expensive, Asian, rare and obscure. In reality its no bass sounding garbage, with shrill highs that appeal only to near-deaf boomer. STAX is Made in China snakeoil for the audiophool.

I'd probably get fostex t60

If you're willing to get used, you can get a DT 1770 Pro for about 300 eurabia bucks

Tbh I was gonna get LCD X2 but I may end up getting monolith m1060 instead

HD660S and Topping DX3. I love listening to music and stuff with that.

closed or open?

Just EQ your stax any way you like. No need to replace.

Try the ZMF Atticus/Aeolus (same driver, just open vs closed). Extremely fun tuning while also having enough detail to please a discerning listener.

LCD2C with a +5 db EQ below 100hz is fun with rock and hip hop.

The Fostex TH line is also lots of fun.

This is now a headphone EQing thread. Post your EQ settings and headphone model. I'll start. Shure SRH440 + pic related.

Would I be able to power the 880s without an AMP?
I noticed an infographic that said "maybe."

For the Koss headphones is there any point in buying the E10K if they can be easily powered by my desktop?

Probably fine for reasonable volumes as long as you don't buy the 600 ohm version.

First question:
Yes, but they’ll sound like shit

Second question:
The FiiO E10K is a no-brainlet for the price. Do it.

The thing is you'll have an e10k and also great headphones, and you can get new headphones later and have the koss as a backup in case you want them.
Tbh my ksc75 beat out my hd600 slightly, I love mine to death and i heard the portapros are only an upgrade from that.

>list sucks
Koss is pretty much shit unless you're talking price/performance on the porta-pro. Good for adolescents spending their allowance. Monoprice was way better price/performance with the old 8320 IEMs.

Shure has some solid headphones, though they're uncomfortable for large heads and QC is just as bad as Monoprice.

How Sennheiser gets in 'ok tier' when they're literally in the top 5 best headphones for general use. Same goes for Audio Technica.

Who else Campfire Audio? Their new models are now available.

Any sennheiser shit good? I may or may not have a decent discount code, wondering if theres something decent from them.

Otherwise throw suggestions at me.

Also COMFORT PLS and DURABILITY. Last ones were like 150 but snapped while placing on head, not even a year old

In my experience Sennheiser is the most comfortable headphone bar none. If I were buying today I'd probably go for the 599.

What is the proper headphone placement on your head? Just slight placement differences change the sound sig by alot

I ordered both of the new Campfire Audio models. the red and brand new design IO for $299, and the brand new $499 blue Polaris. Got shipping info today and they will be here Tuesday, pretty excited.

Whatever sounds worse, obviously.

Everyone should buy Stax for the epic bliss of crystal clear audio reproduction, which blesses ones ears with delight.

like this

How about AKGs and Philips ?

By the way Jow Forums is the Red Audioquest Dragonfly just a DAC without the AMP?
I'm also wondering how it compares to other DACs.

Phillips Fidelio X2.

So I'm mainly just looking for something new since I've used the X2's for almost 4 years now. I was helping someone decide which headphones to get and decided I want a new toy. Thinking closed since the X2's are open and I've had situations where I wished I had closed backs, but open is OK as well.

For $200, probably the DT 770 Pro.

Buy Stax

the left earpiece was giving me a constant shock when it was plugged into nearly everything for some reason

I was thinking these or the M40x, I really hate the attached cable but it might be a fun project to fix that myself later, thanks for the input.

That's C for Classic, my dude. Audeze has a dumb naming scheme.

*Fazor

No faVor. Who’s the retard now amigo

so how's the hifiman in comparison. they usually have a sibilant signature sound

I don't find the HE-500 to be sibilant at all. They're very even-handed overall. Much more spacious, bass seems to extend lower, mids are sweeter, the treble is where is should be, and moreover, it transitions from the mids more properly. I think that's probably why the mids sound sweeter.

The fact that you can find these on the used market for $300 is crazy.

Did Hifiman make a modern he500?

The HiFiMANs beat the Audeze in all areas except bass. The quantity and quality of Audeze bass is absolutely mind-blowing, but they don’t do anything else that well unless you roll LCD-3s or LCD-4s, which are excessively expensive.

Just received mine from Assdrop. Holy shit, the sibilance thing wasn't a meme.

Any half-decent pro/studio headphone can do good bass with a tuned EQ.

Excessive highs is probably the easiest thing to EQ out.

no, chifiman forgot how to make a decent headphone when they discontinued the he400/500/6

I can't stop smelling my headphone (?)

Where can I get Beyer spares?

Yo I need some earpads for the audiotechnica m40x

Anybody can give some recommendations for me please?

Was lookin at these.

worse than stax

>To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand being an incel

OP here. Gotcha I’ll look into that, thanks user.

What’s the story with R2R, why does everyone agree it sounds so much better than every other digital tech?

there is no proprietary DAC chip involved, it's all step ladders and resistors and shit, so it doe not have the 'digital' sound and sounds more analog. in reality it has smoother treble than ESS DAC chips while staying tonally balanced overall.

Looking for headphones that fit the following bill:

>up to $400
>wireless
>LOW LATENCY
>good sound
>comfortable

I was looking at the Sony WH1000X-M3, but found out they have a ~200 ms latency, which is something that I'll probably find annoying in such expensive cans

Use cases include:
>playing guitar with digital modeling through the PC/amp
for when neighbours would complain about noise - the digital modeling already introduces noticeable delay, and additional ~200 ms would just be too much
>vidya, movies and the rest

Is wireless too much to ask for in this price range? Any wired alternatives?

>Less than 200 USD
>USA
>Open
>Both on ear and over ear are fine
>Balanced, but I'm not picky
>No previous equipment

The main thing I'm looking for is build quality. I'm so tired of headphones made with flimsy parts that break easily. Also something comfortable would be nice.

i like the superlux hd668b, you can try the massdrop 58X jubilee for something more expensive

SHP9500, DT 880, 6XX, 58X

Damnit, all I could find were some Klipsch reference over-ear for 100$ at second hand.

There's too many headphones and DACs. I don't know which one to pick >.

Stax

HE 400i (they broke recently, but i liked them a lot) using a modi 2, magni 2

Elex

How the fuck is your Chinese shill even suppose to work if those things are 3000$? If they were under 200$ then you might fool some faggots, but nobody purchases 1000$+ worth of equipment as their first headphone.

buy stax

Are these any good?
massdrop.com/buy/massdrop-sennheiser-hd6xx#overview

Or are the 599 model suggested by better

Those are basically the HD650, just with a different name.
Warm laid back and mid mid centric, quite boring desu.
Consider the 58X from massdrop aswell.
