thumbnails.db

Linux doesn't bother since you can't see them in the filepicker anyway

>Linux
You know how many file managers are available for Linux? Which one did you use?

whatever comes with Ubuntu
also I think it actually creates them and saves them so after going over all of them once its fast now
now I just need to figure out how to make the file picker show larger icons

dis nigga

no rudeposting in my thread pls

How big?

Mines over 9gb now and im having a trouble finding free cloud sync since onedrive only gives free 10gb

use kde's filepicker or something. you use firefox, right? i think i saw a thread once in which people discussed this but you're better off just googling it.

Fuck linux and fuck windows

use mega

That's right, let's go back to LISP systems.

only total commander and dolphin can display massive Jow Forums folders in reasonable amounts of time

>you use firefox, right
n-no,
but surely you can do it on chromium too

25gb but I dont back it up online

>but surely you can do it on chromium too
can't say for sure. i know that you can do it with firefox by editing few config files. haven't done it myself, though. look it up.

With chromium you literally just install KDialog and it switches over automatically.

Have you ever cleared your thumbnail cache in windows? It takes a fuckshitton assblast of time to rebuild it when you get errors. Linux doesn't appear to cache thumbnails but that means there are never errors where two files have the same thumbnail.

Bro kdialog is deprecated.

Nautilus is garbage, but as you noticed yourself not the cause of the problem. Thumbnailers are used to generate thumbnails for your file manager. GNOME's default thumbnailer should be the one of their default media player Totem. You might get a slightly better performance with ffmpegthumbnailer, but that's only my guess.
>now I just need to figure out how to make the file picker show larger icons
There should be a zoom level option somewhere in the settings. Alternatively try ctrl + mouse wheel.

>file picker icons
oh dude you're in for a ride

The bigger your Jow Forums folder, the longer you'll stay an incel

you sought out a dead thread to post buzzfeed lingo?

Use Thunar, it's sexy

>Takes literally ages to sort it and doesnt remember what you last sorted it by
Enable sorting by date modified instead of sort by date. I have 110k pictures in one folder on a shitty laptop HDD that all get sorted and searched instantly.

thunar can't sort big directories quickly either

linux is a kernel

>make a shortcut to a file
>move/rename file
>the shortcut updates automatically
I couldn't believe this shit until I tried doing it again intentionally.

>2k19
>ubuntu 18.10
>open file picker
>no thumbnails
how is this possible? Why is canonical not doing something

>There should be a zoom level option somewhere in the settings. Alternatively try ctrl + mouse wheel.

Every time.

He uses a GUI file picker.

The absolute state of virgin Jow Forumsaymers.

Yeah, I misread his post. Thought he was talking about the file manager.

>if you don't like it just code your own DE :^)
Gnome sucks ass though

Everything in linux desktop comes with gtk. Qt's filepicker is so shit I have no words to describe it. Dolphin's filepicker is great but you need to export shitton of environment variables to make it work properly outside of shit ass KDE and it will bloat your system with some shit ass processes constantly leaking and taking your ram.

I think the problem is that gtk devs refuse to acknowledge the fact that qt even exists.

Also, I figured I could use dolphin's filepicker on lxqt but thats been impossible so far. Fucking hell.

How's LXQt's default file picker? Didn't they make their own?

The only time windows takes ages to sort shit for me is when I sort it by Date, everything else works. Fucking sucks

also, thunar eats up cpu like a baka if you have the folder you're downloading to open

My largest folder is 600 files and that sorts within 2-3 seconds on Windows with an SSD, it does have to resort when you open the folder again because for whatever reason.

> is 600 files
fucking lightweight, you have no reason to speak desu

Attached: 1556398667057.jpg (1086x1920, 100K)

Why would I ever have more than that in one folder? Only reason I have 600 is because I clean my downloads folder like once every few months.

> why would i have more than 600 files in a folder
i don't care since you clearly don't have issues with an autistically large Jow Forums folder

use thunar or dolphin.

Linux is a kernel. It has no icons.

Categorize your shit into multiple folders you unorganized slob.

LXQT's file picker is pretty good, but nothing uses it. Chromium and Firefox will just use the GTK one.

> just-buy-more-ram reasoning
orz kill me now

My download folder is pushing 2000+ items easily, and this is from light use.

>~13k (Jow Forums sourced) images
>17 folders
>3,6 gigs
all on phone, all on fucking phone because laptop can't sort for shit
at this point I can't even transfer it all to laptop, it takes 20 minutes to transfer 200 pics
why is life like this?
