They have been pushing auto ads for adsense platform. You put some code and their system decides where to place the ad. They claim 5-10% better revenue but it's total bullshit, people claim it drops revenue by a significant margin and places ads in stupid areas of the page.

Google has already switched YouTube ads not long ago where it serves the ads from the same server as content. Making it much harder for stuff like pihole and router based DNS blocking solutions to block ads.

It wouldn't be that hard for Google to implement ads which are significantly harder to block. This might be their next play.

Twitch has started to inject ads directly into the stream. It's rare, not sure if lack of ads is due to membership or subscription or merely the fact that it's harder to inject ads but it has happened. Maybe they were just testing it and are going to roll it out fully later, but I swear that I've piped a stream to MPV and saw an ad for Chilli's a few times.
