I don't understand why anyone would want widespread linux adoption.

Define "desktop", because if you mean "workstation", GNU/Linux has lead for years.

Again, dude, I don't care whether other people use it or not. It's good enough for me, and I like it, so I use it. But I don't give a shit about it's marketshare. Why would I?

I started using Linux last month and I really like it. I want to try Gentoo and use little/no GUI but its still quite intimidating

Install Arch and a standalone WM (i3 or dwm for tiling, fluxbox or jwm for stacking). Should be enough to get you started.

Neat. I don't care about the games you want to play. You have your wants and needs. Feel free to pick the best OS for them. I have mine, and Linux fits that the best.

The fact that my needs are not your needs, and that there are separate solutions for us is a good thing.

Look at Pottering. He tried to force people into systemd by merging udev with it. The Gentoo people gave him the middle finger and made eudev. We're safe.

what kind of games user? I've still got a win10 partition for a couple of multiplayer games but aside from that everything i've thrown at it has run well out of the box

So why would you want to use "loonix" in the first place? Just pirate a W10 LTSC iso and deal with it.

I am dualbooting with Win7, but it's a hassle, especially with windows being to retarded to have ext4 support.
