Also I'd recommend that you upgrade the ram. It takes regular DDR2 ram IIRC so it's pretty cheap to get it maxed out.

DDR2 RAM can be had for nothing these days. However, decent Mac AGP graphics cards can be kinda pricey. Like the other user said, there are certain PC graphics cards that you can flash a Mac BIOS to, though.

Yes, it's an absolute godsend on a system with a puny 60x bus. Makes the thing match a 1GHz iMac G4 in terms of CPU performance, though memory bandwidth is quite a bottleneck, as you can see.

Do it. They're easily the best Macs when it comes to tinkering, especially the Sawtooth and the Gigabit Ethernet. Avoid the Digital Audio and the Quicksilver, though, as they are easily the must unreliable models, have a lower RAM ceiling and throw random tantrums about having aftermarket PCI cards installed.

The commumity. I'm serious. There's no community as tightly knit as the Amiga one. Not people into classic Macs, not manchildren into DOS games. They have a really active development scene, since they're dedicated to keeping their computers alive and relatively relevant at any cost. The only issue is almost all of them are furries.
