Add-ons have been a huge part of their platform and browsing the internet without them is absolutely cancerous, the only people who tolerate it are normies that already use Chrome. Meritocracy creates a new social class of meritocrats with no limit to their greed and vanity. In the old days, successful lords recognised they owed their position to their fathers, the successful and rising middle classes knew they owed it to their families and institutions, and those members of the working class who made it to university and succeeded knew and cared for their community links. All of these people appreciated they owed things to other people, that no man is an island. With the rise of the meritocracy you lose this and get an insufferable clique of people quite apart from the rest of us in positions of power.

All the laughter in the world at their ridiculous behaviour doesn't change that they're the group who hold power.

Yes, meritocracy can be corruptes by nepotism and false testimony / documents, but at the end of the day what regime does not suffer from this?
As an example lets take the profession of an actor. It is obvious you want someone who is good at acting for an important role. To prove that, they have to show education and/or previous experience coupled with testimony that confirms this , i.e merit. If they are attractive and charismatic too that is likely too make their acting more believable, for whatever reason, through people enjoying looking at them on screen and hearing their voice. If they are white and a straight male that is likely to go well with most box offices. This is simple statistics and reasoning. Do you care about the drinking problems, insane ego, drug abuse, hollywood rape circles if you just want a good actor? Not if it doesnt interfere with the task they were set to do. Merit provides evidence that they are qualified, it says little about morals, or deep personal issues, because it is not supposed to, unless those have particular qualifications. You need a black guy you hire a black actor, you need a woman you dont hire a man. Its fucking simple logic, and it works for the most part even when the industry is deeply fucked to the core with nepotism.
So whats the fucking deal? What is the counter argument? If you hire bad actors, if you dont prioritize based on what you need and what they can do, your company goes bankrupt, your movie goes to shit, your software falls apart.
