The entire Russian administration is migrating to ALT Linux. Actually they are developing a new substitute to ALT Linux that I know will be called Bazalt (or something like Based on Alt). The entire Russian army, including their newest military technologies like the S-400, the Su-57 and so on heavily computerized weapons are using Astra Linux, again something they developed from nothing for themselves. The Russian educational system adopted Alt a long time ago. On top of all pretty much the entire army, administration and so on state spheres are moving to Russian made Elbrus CPUs, which although are still a meme are good enough for basic work desktops and are steadily improving. In fact from 2011 to 2016 they went from 90nm to 22nm. As of now they are also rapidly changing old intel/amd computers to the ARM based russian made Baikal processors as well.
Take your head out from your window and look around. The world outside the USA and Western Europe ain't even remotely close to what people there are thinking it is.

Well here's the deal:
Americans don't know their own Operating Systems to such a degree that Microsoft doesn't even know how to allow Windows to change the font color on desktop icons, it's ancient magic lost in time as far as they are concerned kind of mirroring the nu-Mechanicum in 40k.
Therefore Russians feel fine with using Windblows, and even Linux.

I've always wondered this, why both the soviets and the japs never managed to make an exportable OS back in the day.
I mean, okay the Americans (and Brits) invented it all, refined it etc., actually had a burgeoning consumer market for computers unlike the USSR, but what about Japan?

Surely Russia's military or whatever don't use windows for their computing needs, right? And I'm not talking about ancient legacy missile systems which, apparently, are dinosaurs even in America.

I remember hearing a few years ago some shit about Russian govt offices switching to typewriters in certain departments since computers are so insecure; going back to the old ways means old school espionage that requires a physical presence to steal the ribbons or hard copies, which is harder than exploiting bad software.
