The fix that works for all versions (and all editions, even non ESR) Privacy & Security > Down to Certificates > Select Authorities > Import > Select the icfix.pem file > Tick the checkboxes then OK. 4] In the browser console (CTRL+SHIFT+J) you run the following two lines: Components.utils.import("resource://gre/modules/addons/XPIProvider.jsm"); XPIProvider.verifySignatures(); 4.1] If you want to manually run this on Firefox 57+ you use the word XPIDatabase instead of XPIProvider. 5] Restart Firefox. 5.1] Most addon should start working, some (umatrix) have UIs that won't work until you disable & then enable them again from the Addon page on the spot. Should work for the next 6 years at least.
I don't know what the you're talking about, but I installed FF 66.0.4 fresh, making me as far from a legacy user as can be, and I installed Dissenter manually without a modicum of trouble.

Don't forget to undo the read only shit on the extensions json if you did that with the other type of fix, and delete the extensions tmp. I'll communicate whether this fix worked for me in 24 hours in whatever Firefox thread, but so far everything is fine and it's been 6 hours so far of multiple Shitfox 56 restarts and everything still holding fine.
