/found? I mean they had a clearnet site so I’m sure that may have helped, but why would they allow them to operate for so long before taking them down? It seems bitcoin analysis is taking a lot of these things down, I’m surprised the darkness’s markets haven’t moved on completely to something like monero. I was at a security conference recently and there was a presentation on bitcoin analysis. There is zero anonymity with bitcoin now even when using mixers.

Companies like intel, red hat, and google have a ton of power to bury backdoors in open source projects and share the exploits selectively with LEOs.
My guess is that average darkweb users have gotten savvy enough to know all of the easy routes for getting fucked and avoid them (i.e. cellphone / internet wiretaps).

One thing I don’t understand is whether their development and testing server was a hidden service or not, but I don’t think it was. After the feds found their development and testing server they were able to monitor it and one got caught logging in from a VPN that must have kept logs and claims they didn’t, and the other was caught from a dropped VPN connection. Another key issue was the re-using of PGP keys between several markets. A PGP key essentially becomes an indemnity and the feds were able to leverage that as well.
