Personally I would flip the screen upside down to remove bottom bezel (and display buttons there) and use the top bezel for everything they try to slap into the notch. No idea why nobody even tries that.

The notch is only a stopgap. Eventually they will implement behind-the-screen cameras and you'll actually be able to make eye contact while video chatting.
