Not necessarily, but if the software works for me and receives security patches then why should I update? There’s nothing wrong with new or old software, I just simply use what works for me. I like debian’s commitment to free software and the fact it’s a community distribution instead of having to worry about a corporation holding my OS hostage or pulling funding.

I use Fedora for my workstations, but am planning on upgrading my personal servers to RHEL 8. Honestly I'd like to wait for RH CoreOS but I can't find any release information about it yet.

Oh also, when I installed it on a test server the other night, I found out that I can get free a Red Hat license/subscription if I pick "Self Support" during the install process, perfect. That's AWESOME. No need for CentOS anymore.

I got tired of Windows and decided to learn how to use Linux literally 2 weeks ago. Just went cold turkey, formatted PC and removed windows. I have Linux only now.

I went with Ubuntu because it seemed to be the easiest to deal with. Might switch to RedHat at some point, who knows.

red hat is fully open source and contributes way much more to desktop linux than debian will ever do.

I never said RH doesn’t commit anything, and I acknowledge that they have contributed more to the Linux kernel than anyone else. Debian uses a deblobbed kernel and only free software by default, which is what I meant by “commitment to free software”.
