The only thing I took out of this is that only normies use Windows

templeos will rise from the grave
Zachary Myers
only 2.14% of the population has an IQ high enough to use it
Ethan Diaz
templeos never died
John Ortiz
I seriously doubt 1 in 50 people use Linux on their personal computer
Joshua Edwards
most normies buy computers with windows preinstalled.
Most normies play games.
Linux is kinda shitty if you can't troubleshoot problems yourself
there you go
Parker Allen
Consider that people on linux may use Windows User-Agent to partially prevent fingerprinting.
Josiah Turner
It's impressive that macOS managed to get almost the 10%
Chase Mitchell
go hit the gym instead, or go back to Jow Forums, your generalization is showing
Just because there's millions of neurons inside your skull, and you just use a certain percentage of them doesn't mean you're brain dead... but your post says otherwise
Ryder Johnson
What is dead may never die
Josiah Sanchez
>he actually believes this
Carson Clark
aprox 3% of pornhub views came from linux
check their statistics
if you think about it, aprox in school there is one smart guy per class
so i think its plausible
Logan Butler
Looks like bsd is kill. Ahahaha
Joshua Sanchez
> 2%
Not bad. Used to be under 1%.
Leo White
google could have done something good for once and shill the whole of linux instead of the propietary shit for years
currently partially fixing the mistake but a mistake non the less
this
in another 5 years maybe we hit 3%
Zachary Fisher
Won't surprise me if Linux reaches 5% in the next decade. Windows, as it exists today, is doomed. We'll see what Microsoft does about it (free Windows for home users, open source more of its components, straight up make Windows POSIX compliant etc). They've been trying to play nicer with open source as of late. At least they're seemingly a lesser evil than Google and Facebook at this point.
Connor Sullivan
I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Linux, is in fact, Android, or as I've recently taken to calling it, Android plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning Android system made useful by the Bionic corelibs, Toybox utilities and other open source software comprising a full OS designed for touchscreen mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets.
Many users run a proprietary version of the Android system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of Android which is widely used today is often called "Linux", and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the Android system, developed by Google.
There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine's resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the Android operating system: the whole system is basically Android with Linux added, or simply Android. All the so-called "Linux" distributions are really distributions of Android.
Robert Roberts
android is in the mobile OS statistics where it has half the user share
and no, while technically you are right android is a disgrace to linux
Asher Kelly
Based.
Jace Torres
You cannot kill something that was already dead
Adam Evans
>microsoft is less evil because they embrace open source
Don't be a fool.
Zachary Smith
Linux ride is over. Migrate to macOS and save Unix.
Parker Campbell
Im surprised its more popular than chrome os.
Elijah Bell
I use Linux to work but i won't ever use it as my personal OS
Jordan Ramirez
>less people are using linux
And that's a good thing. More enemies inside than outside desu.
Mason Hughes
I'm also kinda surprised how poor ChromeOS has done
I guess trying to be the cheapest laptop ever doesn't sell
Benjamin Fisher
video games are cute, but does windows contribute to anything important?
Andrew Carter
no no no no this can't be happening
Dylan Hernandez
Just because Linux is used in supercomputers doesn't necessarily mean I want to use it on my desktop
Josiah Ramirez
Just because gamers don't want to use Linux doesn't necessarily mean it's kill.
Isaiah Richardson
>linux is for servers
qed
Connor Young
>muh supah computah
Ayden Bennett
How are these statistics even collected?
User agents?
I'd wager a significant percentage of Linux users are concerned enough about privacy that spoofing theirs to something else is part of their repotoire.
John Roberts
It's not hard to use. The misconception is that you need a high IQ to use it and that its "only for programmerz and haxx0rz"
Daniel Carter
>tfw 0.01%
Owen Cox
Wrong, 4%. Than 8%, Than 2^n
Justin Carter
well, a organism free of biases would want it as desktop
but we humans are imperfect, and some like you want to be imperfect
Nathan Phillips
Do linux neckbeards masturbate more often than normal people?
Logan Gomez
i use linux daily for work but wsl has made it pointless for me to get rid of windows on my home desktop, especially with wsl2
im sure its microsoft's way of enticing devs to stay in their eco system but its too fucking convenient at least until anti-cheat starts working under proton
Connor Morris
probably less because of the nofap propaganda
Owen Nelson
iToddlers BTFO!
Why not?
NORMIES OUT OF MY OPERATING SYSTEM+KERNEL!!!
Owen Scott
>mom look i installed a bsd all my friends will think im cool
give me one good reason you are using BSD of any linux distro
Juan Rogers
Reading the comments throughout this thread from loonix neckbeards coping hard is making my day, thanks OP.

John Scott
I like it
Matthew Perry
>2%
Its grown over 100% in the past 10 years. That's progress.
Jackson Perez
thats not a reason to choose an OS, an OS has to serve a purpose and if you choose one just because its kind of sad
Parker Moore
Ton of macbooks, plus its a status symbol to own apple stuff. So al the normals want it.
Gabriel Jones
What makes Linux for desktop so perfect then?
It sure as hell isn't X11 or it's replacement Wayland
Joshua Martinez
>Windows releases a full Linux kernel with every windows distribution
>Chromebooks are now Linux laptops that run all Linux programs and are 80% of every educational laptop sold in north america
But Linux is dead!
Camden Perry
Its purpose is allowing me to work without getting in my way, i.e. by requiring minimal maintenance and configuration to be useful
Mason Moore
macbooks are the de facto standard for webdev and nearly every professor i had in uni used one besides the ones doing kernel dev who just had xps13s with debian or ubuntu
Jose Nelson
and why do you think BSD achieves that better than a standard linux distro with much more out of the box support and sane defaults
Brody Nelson
They don't. I use Linux VM's inside windows to browse certain sites.
Ian Anderson
>>Chromebooks are now Linux laptops that run all Linux programs and are 80% of every educational laptop sold in north america
have you ever even used a chromebook ? those shits are so locked down they make the most OEM aids infested windows laptop blush.
Owen Martinez
I have owned 2 and love it for what it is. Nothing locked down at all.
Alexander Sullivan
It's not that you need a high IQ to use it, it's that you need a high IQ to even consider what OS you're using. Most PCs around the globe only ever see one, maybe two operating systems in a lifetime. A large majority of the 87.56% are normies and boomers who just buy some shitty laptop and keep Windows on it, 9.65% are homosexuals or teenage girls. At least we know that every single person making up that 2.14% know what an OS is, which indicates higher IQ.
Lucas Richardson
lol you are way behind on the times old man, chromebooks let you do a lot now and if you want you can just install a full linux distro on top of it
Nolan Evans
>being prepubescent
Caleb Moore
>1 in 10 personal computer on earth runs fagOS
no chance in hell. shit statistics that were probably made in the poonited states
Caleb Wilson
Years of suffering
Nolan Bell
>muh supercomputers
the reason loonix is used is because Microsoft does not bother with a supercomputer oriented Windows; also loonix is used only because it's 'already there' and adaptable, not necessarily because it's good by itself
Elijah Morgan
>MacOS has less market share in poorer countries
You don't say
Matthew Flores
Jow Forums only uses underdog shit like Linux, old stinkpads, android, and ayymd and therefore the mass migration to FreeBSD is imminent.
Evan Ross
I really like BSD, it's pretty neat. Currently running mainly Linux but I like so have some BSDs around, it makes me happy
Blake White
>tfw in a few years from now it won't be "you need to use ubuntu" it will be "install ubuntu on your windows 10 store"
Elijah Bailey
I use Wikipedia all the time on linux, but I use a windows user agent.

One guy in every 250 has 5 computers and runs GNU/Linux in all of them.
Kayden Young
semi true, I have 37 machines currently.
Blake Parker
So what happens when all computers are super in the near future and Linux is the only one prepped for it?
Parker Martinez
you know that doesn't change your ip don't you
Jason Lopez
windows 10 users are the most powerful race

The problem with these statistics is that Linux doesn't have a native client for everything, especially games. Therefore people might dualboot or have multiple devices. If I have both Windows and Linux then I'm not technically giving a full one person towards Linux since I'm raising the Windows side at the same time. Even when I do use it all the time I don't count as one full person.
Samuel Sanders
Thanks for the useless post
Carson Morris
Well for one thing chromeos is gnu/linux
Hunter Butler
wtf i love linux now
Aiden Moore
It's all yours my equally useless fellow user.
Asher Taylor
and android
Andrew Lee
Linux can be pretty intimidating, just choosing which OS based on it can be a chore, when your choices are Windows, Mac OS, or a thousand different flavours of linux that you arn't sure about.
It also includes the conscious decision to reinstall your OS, to backup any media or photo you might have had, etc.
It is quite a lot to handle.
Owen Wright
When are computer vendors gonna start offering prebuilts with a Linux distro preinstalled if you don't wanna pay for a Windows license? We all know that prebuilt and laptop users make up the lion's share of buyers.
Easton Powell
It's impossible to compete with the used market, basically. Most countries are either rich enough that basically everyone can afford something better, poor enough that their used market is incredibly well developed and they know how to get something far better for the same money, or so poor they can't even afford chromebooks.
John Howard
Linux has been kill for the last 14 years I've been refreshing Jow Forums.
Jose Powell
I'm going to be that guy.
I'd like you to list them fampai.
I'm curious.
Brandon Collins
>netmarketshare
How do they get the data?
Sebastian Gray
Some vendors do, more for businesses I'd assume though.
I reckon the main reason is, since windows is the norm, any normie buying a laptop will get confused. Where's my windows? What is all this stuff etc.
If it's a matter of saving money, vendors get a large discount probably, and again if there's a Linux laptop and a windows normies will go for the windows, something they likely know how to use
Jeremiah Cooper
MacOS on the desktop
Free/OpenBSD on the server
Brayden Jones
>Linux is kinda shitty if you can't troubleshoot problems yourself
windows is too, almost all normies have people who do IT stuff for them
Jace Thompson
Another episode of Jow Forums can't into selection bias.
Parker Long
I do it but I use macos agent
Dominic Moore
yeah, im sure it is animucuck... why don't you show us that start menu?

Mostly Arm boards, but they all run.
Ryzen 2700X x4
ryzen 1800
ryzen 1700X x2
intel 3930K
intel 3570k
intel 5820k x2
Arm boards are an old UDOO, 4 banana pi, a bunch of raspberry pi, actually doing things... and most used ones are odroid HC2 for file shares on the company VPNs, my company to be clear that these are mine.
banana pi are used for sata port and drives constantly clone the HC2 with ryzen and do incremental backups with rsnapshot. All at different sites & buildings. Same with the HC2. HC2 all clone to each other using syncthing.
pi are used for company client management systems in different areas and cameras and laboratory equipment that I'm rebuilding some of our $200k units are from 1980s I kinda can rebuild some parts of them

Linux sys admin here. Linux on the desktop is mostly shite. It's come a long way, but we're still a long ways away. Maybe in 5 years we'll finally have an ecosystem for solid gaming, but it's not here yet.
Server space? Linux is fucking god. Nothing can touch it by a fucking country mile.
Isaiah Torres
My buddy who works for M$ and is looking to transition to the MSVC dev team loves Linux, but uses Windows as his main OS. Honestly, Windows works really well. The spy bot meme is overblown.
