My hdd just died and I lost everything on it. Serious reminder that today you need to back up your drive. Don't let this happen to you as it did me.

All that rare premium porn gone forever from now defunct sites. All those countless hours organizing it. Yes backups are important.

How do you backup without buying another drive user? I'm poor and NEET.

died how? is it the drive circuitry? have you considered buying a second drive and swapping the boards over?

was it the drive mechanism? have you considered putting it in the freezer for a few hours, then see if it'll spin up long enough to get the data off?

It's stuck on auto repair and I can't do anything with it. I can't do a refresh or open cmd as in order to use those I have to use my admin password which I can only get to if I can restart but it just goes right back to auto repair. I can't even open safe mode.

I would if I had the money to

You don't. You need another storage device.

backing up to Amazon drive

It depends, like myself I don't have a backup. So if my hdd dies then anything I collected then it goes to the trash.

Encrypt everything and make a bunch of Google drive accounts

everything will be fine, stop worry.

That means nothing, retard. Get a live distro and backup your shit if your HDD is really dying

10TB easystore at best buy is $179 now, which is black friday pricing - i bought the 8TB one as main storage drive, prob will pick up the 10TB to keep as backup for laptop+desktop after getting paid in a week

is there a time-machine like meme for windows where it automatically backs up the changes? my backup method is select all and copy/paste every month but it takes long + not frequent enough

If you're too poor for a second drive, you need to prioritize your most important files and backup those. You aren't going to save huge collections of movies this way, but you can probably manage your music, memes, schoolwork, code, etc. Basically, everything you have, minus the big stuff.

Do you have a flash drive? Use that for backup. Otherwise, there's cloud storage that will give you a few gigs for free.

cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk

not all is lost, things can be recovered. just don't panic or write anything onto the drive.

Have you tried following 's advice?
Check if you can access your HDD in a Linux distro.
