Help desk jobs

When your working at a help desk and theres nothing else to do, are you allowed to do whatever you want on the computer?

no, and why would I want to do personal things on my work computer? And what do you mean nothing else to do? What kind of job do you have? I'm a network engineer and take calls and get tickets, but I'm tier 3/4 so if you send me a ticket it better be something not retarded and stupid. But it's going to be. And yes we make fun of you idiots behind your back.

pic would be funnier with virgin on the couch.

>Using the corporate network+computers for shit posting and playing games
Bad idea user, under no circumstance should you even browse the web on your company PC. N
BUT, I fuck around on my phone all the time and when I work from home I use a second laptop to play games on. On weekends I would bring said laptop in to the office and tether it to my phone for playing games too.
Just never do anything over your work's own equipment or network.

I love these.

You can't browse stormfront at work

if you know your work doesn't have remote desktop and screen recording then you're safe with a vpn though. they'll know you're using a vpn (and might question it) but they won't see what you're doing

Always assume they do. Often engineering+management will not tell people like helpdesk and sales, etc that such things are installed.
Better to play it safe then open one tab for 2 minutes to the wrong site and end up packing up your shit by the end of the day.

>“Engineer”
Stop this meme

lmao this one is based

if you're not actively maintaining on a ship or train, you can stop worrying about the stolen title
it is what is it, desk jockey

well i've been browsing here at work for 2 years already so I guess I'm alright

My work is much more strict. Not like it matters, I have permanent work from home so I just browse porn and play games on a separate computer right next to my work laptop lol
Its like I'm a NEET, I never leave home, I'm always on my computer shit posting, but I still make money.

I lurk Jow Forums when there's nothing to do. But I work as a developer.

If you're not an engineer stop calling yourself one, pajeet

Yes i just watch YouTube and then read my compiles book when my boss goes to the bathroom. I sit right by the bathroom door

Depends on the workplace. Me and my boss send shitposts to eachother when there's nothing to do.

Depends on the helpdesk size and SLA. I worked at a place that got like 20-25 calls a day per each user on our helpdesk. 90% of the time it was just telling the user to reboot in safemode and kick off an A/V scan, unfuck a printer driver/mapping, or just a PW reset.

We could play games so long as we kept ticket count down to a respectable level and usually played UT2k4 because it ran on intel's integrated without issue. Others we didn't even have admin rights, and were monitored closely for everything.

Reminder that statistically race mixed relationships are very uncommon and white dudes are more likely to mix with non-whites than white women.

Also a reminder that white women are more than likely to marry a Hispanic man than any other non-white male.

My company does not monitor personal HTTP content (other than blocking malware sites) so yes you can do whatever you want. I usually study or do some programming practice. But yes if I wanted to watch youtube and twitch all day I could.

Cringe

Do I need any certifications to get into helpdesk or are they willing to train someone from the ground up as long as they aren't socially retarded?

I wouldn't bother citing those statistics here. People love to 'meme' it up over actually learning about the topic at hand.

i have my doubts about that. in non-white majority areas i rarely see white male with non-white female but the opposite is fairly common.

It usually depends on the area itself as well as how 'progressive' the people are their.

Living the dream

Any CompTIA trash cert will get you in the door.
Just get an A+ and you're good.
Get Network+ and Security+ and you're already overqualified and can probably get in to a 3rd level support gig in HR's eyes.
