Chromebooks are the ULTIMATE computer. Here's why.
Normies don't want a computer. They want a home appliance. A Facebook machine. And, when they try to use their machine for anything else, they don't know what the fuck they are doing. And that's not safe. They get viruses. They fuck things up.
A Chromebook is, essentially, the quintessential normie machine. It's cheap, easy to use, hardened, and REALLY secure.
But for those that do KNOW what they are doing, Chromebooks are also absolutely fine. Just enable developer mode, and you will have access to all the usual UNIX tools. There's nothing you can do on a Linux PC that you can't do on a Chromebook. Installing and setting up the things you need might be more complicated, but at the end of the day, if you are on developer mode, you KNOW what you are doing, so it is pretty easy.
Chromebooks are machines that are excellent for both normies AND power-users. This is why they are BASED and REDPILLED.
you can dual boot linux and window7 on chromebook too right?
Jeremiah Wilson
Why does Jow Forums always miss the point of products? Stop treating everything like consumer tech.
Colton Campbell
Windows? Maybe with an x86 Chromebook, but I don't understand why someone would subject themselves to that. And, of course they run Linux. ChromeOS is Linux.
Michael Harris
If you have an Intel Chromebook, yes, you can run Windows. If you have an ARM one, you can run a Linux distro with ARM support on it just fine. Chrome OS is just a hardened Linux distro after all.
>But for those that do KNOW what they are doing, Chromebooks are also absolutely fine. Why bother? They are still locked down even in developer mode and you have an annoying step you have to go through every time you boot to keep it in developer mode, and some models you have to open up in order to remove write protection which risks damaging it. I wouldn't call it Linux if you're not free to do whatever on it. You can get around it, but at what cost? You'll end up with a machine you'll have to maintain more than LFS.
Don't do the mistake of buying a Chromebook if you want to run Linux on it.

Nonstandard keyboard. therefore irrelevant and excluded from consideration
Connor Butler
>Chromebooks are the Ultimate computer >Chromebooks are just Facebook machines
Decide, OP
Nathan Richardson
There’s a reason schools use them, and that’s because they’re restrictive shit in every sense of the word.
Isaiah Gomez
>Chromebooks are the ULTIMATE computer. Then explain 1.35% desktop share, and consider how low that would be if public schools didn't buy them by the thousands. Its a overpriced tablet with a keyboard and a failure as a product.
Caleb Phillips
>I wouldn't call it Linux if you're not free to do whatever on it Linux is just a kernel and is not defined by permissions.
Chase Kelly
>Linux is just a kernel 0/8 bait
Ryder Morales
What do you think Linux is?
Carter Jenkins
for the same reason I unironically like macOS. MacBooks are cancer though, wouldnt buy one
Angel Diaz
macOS is a lot less locked down than ChromeOS.
Blake Baker
BOTNET O T N E T
Brayden Carter
They are expensive. A tablet is cheaper.
Ian Ward
Why doesn't somebody just sell cheap Ubuntu laptops. If normies are willing to buy Chromebooks, then what's the difference. They're both Linux, meaning the consumer won't be for looking to play games or do Adobe work.
William Morris
Only a very small number of computer users use Adobe or play with video toys.
Julian Powell
Exactly, then you'd think something like Ubuntu laptops would sell really well.
Jason Ross
But they don't. There needs to be a specific hardware to market them with. ChromeOS runs on low powered, usually ARM, chips which allow for long battery life and extreme portability. Simply putting Ubuntu on any x86 crapbox, like Dell does, does not stand out and will not sell.
Caleb Robinson
For some it's usefull, for some it's not. Some people hate it, some love it. It's a thing on the market. People can buy it if they want to, which is fine.
Brayden Wright
He's right though, android phones/tablets/books and chromebooks are locked down linux devices. Is linux still the most used if these aren't linux? They say it actually minix anyway because of intel botnet processors but I don't know there's alot of arm devices.
Chromebooks are probably better for consumers, but they've never caught on outside of education for two reasons that entwined. >Can't run Windows programs >The device itself just looks like any standard Laptop Chromebooks are frightening for consumers because not all of their existing software will run on it, but Chromebooks are also not exciting enough to encourage people to ignore that.
iPads did way better than Chromebooks because they were exciting devices at the time, people didn't care if it didn't run any of their software because wow it's all multi-touch!
That's not something disputable: Chrome OS is unironically botnet. I still like it though.
Cameron Ramirez
Can you watch streaming movies on chromebook? Any IPS models ? What their limitations compared to a standard i5 win 10 laptop ?
I'm interested because of the battery life.
Easton Russell
Underage, leave.
Your school locks them down for a reason.
Colton Green
Yup. Chromebooks are toasters with nice speakers and nice screens. There is nothing better than that for a normie. However, I would not recommend you install Linux on one. Like I said previously, they are toasters and are not designed (spec wise) to do basic tasks like open an IDE or more...
If you're going to use Linux, just by a decent laptop. You don't even need one with a good screen.
Nathan Sanchez
I agree with most of what you are saying but you clearly don't own a chromebook
Xavier Ortiz
I think he is saying Chromebooks are the ultimate computer for normies who only need a web browser on their computer.
Their limitations are that they are really slow dual cores. And the ARM chips aren't much better. Having said that I can stream via HDMI high bitrate 4k sports events to my big TV. Which run 3 to 4 hours flawlessly. Then disconnect and go back to browsing for another 4 hours before needing a charge.
Oliver Taylor
Yep yep and yep. I have a lolacer that I use for shitposting with a 1080 lcd and it's unironically one of the best laptops I've ever owned. It needs charged occasionally. It reminds of crapple back during the xp / Vista years. Clean, reliable computer with a retarded long battery life. I would have killed for one in college.
Camden Allen
*mom clicks something and installs a malware Chrome extension* nothing personnel, kid
Levi Gomez
>not putting Haiku OS on your chromebook lmao plebs
Oliver Cox
OK, and what does that botnet do that is so damaging to me? In short please.
Brody Rodriguez
This is the biggest problem. Lack of home, end, delete, page up, page down is obnoxious. Sure there's two-key combos for those in the Chrome browser itself but that won't help you in Linux programs or when you're RDP/VNC/etc to remote machines.
Christopher Collins
>Powerwash Problem solved.
Gavin Mitchell
>whole premise is that they're normie-proof >expecting normies to know about powerwash
If you didn't know I can see how someone who owns the device hadn't ever heard of it.
Easton Wood
Leaves you vulnerable to privacy concerns.
Isaac Cruz
OK, so they know I watch porn, like jazz/bigband/swing/boogie-woogie music, spend my money on useless shit. drive a old italian car, what slav country I am from, have a android phone from a few gen's ago, who I call and for how long, what insurance I have, how much money in the bank I have and what kinda accounts, love the color wine-red, am losing sight in my right eye, am not a heavy drinker and like to go on forums.
Now again; what does that botnet do that is so damaging to me?
Elijah Clark
>can't use chromeos compositing and WM on Ubuntu FUCK
