Why is Krita suddenly so good while Gimp is still barely functional? I had not even heard about Krita a few years ago

Krita reached critical mass in popularity and now people who KNOW how to paint are donating and making bug reports.

Also Qt maskot.

based chad kde/qt developers versus virgin gnome/gtk footfags

krita is designed to be drawing software

gimp is designed to be image manipulation software at the expense of the ability to create original images

they have entirely different design goals besides the fact that GIMP is complete dogshit

>people who KNOW how to paint
>Krita
So you mean NEETs painting furry OCs? Professionals use industry standard software

Furry painting NEETs get paid way more than "muh serious industry grade professions"

kill yourself larper

because quality < popularity in nu-Jow Forums

Spotted the furries.

>Qt maskot
that must be the secret

Why even make anything?

Spotted the buttblasted adobe shill "professional".

Nailed it

Kiki the cyber squirrel

Only the highest quality software to crop pics for Jow Forums.

Mind you, I think I'd rather be a furfag drawing shit I like then not and working under a corporate lash. Even if the pay is more reliable in the latter.

>based chad kde/qt developers versus virgin gnome/gtk footfags
if kde devs are so good then why does knwin_x11 crash constantly for years?

Figures germans would be furries.

Forever our libre mascot

It turns out having a good name and logo matters when your project is community driven

I do love GIMP, if only it wasnt fucking named GIMP...

I wish we had a good, lighter option for basic editing. Pinta had the right amount of features for me, but it's dead and never stopped crashing.

I need this.

Is Krita modular enough that could be used as a toolkit/framework (yes, on top of qt) to build a Photoshop clone that doesn't suck? So when people support one they end it up support the other indirectly.

Honest to god, I just want something lightweight like MS Paint that has layers and pen pressure support. That's it. I can't recall any software like this being available on Windows either and it fucking sucks.

How do I learn to draw?

It's called Paint Tool Sai, it's a Japanese software smaller than 5MB

GIMPfags keep spouting this shit yet Krita does a lot of image manipulation tasks better than GIMP at this point.

I half suspect this is true and it makes me sadder than I have ever been.

Attached: 1551235912994.jpg (736x550, 135K)

GIMP can't even rotate a fucking layer without text becoming blurred...

KDE has an actual budget and is made by people who actually listen to people who want to use their software, just like Blender went from crap to okay after they they actually tried using it to make shorts.
GIMP is made by neckbeards who got tired of the "but where's my photoshop" spam, but they don't actually do any image editing nor do they care about their users hence why GIMP is and always will be dogshit.

Paint dot net version 3.3.6, it's the utorrent 2.2.1 of painting software. It's basically ms paint with layers and a few other things. Total file size less than 10MB, starts up instantly. It's also the last open source version of paint dot net. The latest version is 300MB for comparison.

I always thought GIMP being shit was exagerated and kind of a meme, but it really is horrible, one of the worst programms that I have ever used.

While I love Sai and it is small, I want something smaller and simpler. Something that loads instantly.

>last open source version
>doesn't compile it from source
>filehippo
nice meme

PDN could be better.

Huh. This looks functionally just like the new versions. Are there any major differences?

>windows

What kind of hardware are you using that can't open PSAI instantly? Genuinely curious

>it's the utorrent 2.2.1 of painting software
So completely pointless and superseded by better choices?

>Ugly mascot
Excuse me, but this is the epitome of beauty.

Attached: Untitled 1.jpg (816x1056, 57K)

reminder that Adobefags who diss on gimp didn't even install the latest version

I think the new versions have weighted brushes, but if you are just in the market for "mspaint plus" then 3.3.6 is perfectly good

Gimp long has been too fixated at doing only bitmap (basically no vector) editing, whereas a whole lot of people prefer to work with vector objects.

It's obvious to me that more support would eventually rally behind an editor that does both rather than just a bitmap editor.

>filehippo

Okay I accept that one.

web.archive.org/web/20081216205538/http://www.getpaint.net/download.html

gimp is unable to work even with bitmaps.
>erase literal 1 pixel
>gimp crashes
>a year has passed, still the same happens

Really helps that the devs take community feed back well and seriously. Many of the features have been tweaked to be usable on a professional level but still accessible by beginners.
Almost everything about Krita as a project should be held on a pedestal on how to run a community project. Other projects need to take note.

Funny how they wen't though the effort of rewriting the central graphics core of the GIMP only to fuck it up again and miss tons of features that was needed and now they kinda have to do it all over again... again.

What? Is this real ?

But why do that when you can belittle users? I agree though. Krita wouldn't be where it is today without user input and from the devs complying.

Doesn't and didn't crash for me on Gentoo.

I however don't actually like how you edit most things in Gimp. It's either forcing you to use a gazillion layers or you can't even undo most changes on "objects" in the image, because there are none.

>So you mean NEETs painting furry OCs?
Did you know the industry has been and is full of those, since the Don Bluth times, right?

Did you know the industry uses industry standard software?

>EVER implying any software successfully made us forget about the good days of utorrent

Whatever you do, don't look up furry artists patreons. You'll neck yourself after 5 minutes

Thinking it over, another good example of an open source project that takes feedback well and seriously would be Godot. And just like Krita, the development of that exploded and is now rivaling paid solutions.
Really goes to show how working WITH your community goes far.

utorrent wasn't anything special, just a simple torrent client with ads

Green is my pepper

> ads
exactly why it's shit

This for 2MB.
Now it's either deluge bloated with python or qbittorrent bloated with Qt, both 100Mb after install
zoomers please

I hope Kdenlive follows soon.

Blender too. It really is starting to turn into one of the most used professional 3D editors now, and might even get popular as video editor.

And the industry, just like the music production stage, is moving to the self producing, DIY side as now, thanks to the internet, distribution is much easier and a couple of clicks away while more and more people are leaving television behind in favor of Youtube.
Besides Krita is easy to use, even easier than Paint Tool SAI which was used by amateurs.
As for Blender, I've seen all kinds of opinions in /3/, but it improved a lot lately.

Blender owes a lot of its recent popularity to porn artists.
It says a lot about your software that amateurs can use it to make porn of their favorite characters without too much difficulty.

And even for anime, Miyazaki's studio open sourced their Toonz editor, which has since been ported to Linux.

I also use Blender for designing 3D printable parts. It may be not the best software for the task but does its job regardless.

There are a lot of things that need to be useful for porn, 2D and 3D editors included.
Krita surely also is quite strongly powered by people wanting to draw porn. And the internet funded quite strongly by people who want to watch porn.

Moving aside from graphic software, are there good Cubase+EZDrummer or Toontrack alternatives yet? Last I checked there were Audacity, Rosegarden and Hydrogen, but these don't look like they had the same love as Blender or Krita. JACK is a pain in the ass to use.

> JACK is a pain in the ass to use.
Not terribly, and you also got pulseaudio - in most cases it's either already fast enough or you can use the latency diagnostics and changed parameters to basically get there.

Jow Forums is a proud furry board, go back to cripplechan.

Is the kde team like really fucking solid or is it just me? I don't even like the de itself but they seem to have pretty great software in there.

Kiki is NOT for lewds!

What is an "image manipulation" software anyway? I hear this excuse all the time but there's no clear difinition for it. Like, a bunch of shitty filters with basic brushes and cut/crop/resize tools or what?

>GNU Image Manipulation Program
>GNU
there's your problem

That image is so cute.

I cant believe i spelled "difinition"

Editing photos you retard

ANOTHER WIN FOR KDE
KDE/QTE > GNOME/GTK

Last I checked, it still couldn't into intuitive font editing.
Has that changed?

They just happen to have some really solid projects under their umbrella. They also have some pointless and broken crap like the office/mail suite that krita used to be a part of.

Yes. It's focus is to edit images, that's why tools like clone stamp, auto selection, and various shapes for selection tools are the easiest to find.

And what exactly is so special about editing photos that requires specialized tools which Krita supposedly doesn't have?

Its.

Wait I just noticed this whore's color scheme.
She trans?

krita would be god-tier if it had french curves/templates like artrage. you could finally airbrush efficiently with it.

the font editor did change this year but it's still awful

>the font editor did change this year but it's still awful
Well, guess it's gimp for me then.
I can't draw.

This is the power of GNU, C and UNIX development.

Fuck Krita and its stupid implementation of stabilizers. I'd rather use clip studio, where shit works how i want it easier. And it works great under WINE

Calligra is actually pretty good too.

Propose the feature enhancement if it isn't already.

You know, for a cute furry mascot of a drawing program used by a lot of furries Kiki doesn't have a lot of porn.
