>Linux, 2019
>Still no video hardware acceleration for browsers
Linux, 2019
Chromium has it.
>Linux
What kernel has video hardware acceleration for browsers?
Windows 10
I would have literally never noticed this if I never came to Jow Forums.
>what is gstreamer
Firefox has Hardware acceleration now on Linux. Chromiums may be buggy afaik
Windows 10 is not a kernel
Firefox has it.
Windows NT
Chromium works fine as long as you are not using Nvidia.
That means nothing, you have to compile chromium with VAAPI enabled.
>Use when available
It's never available
>packages: 1488
based and redpilled
That's what you get for falling for the Wayland meme.
Nothing to do with Wayland.
Jesus Christ, dude.
I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you’re referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I’ve recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX. Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called “Linux”, and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project. There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine’s resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called “Linux” distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.
What worthwhile content would you even need hardware acceleration for?
Stupid frog poster, you can enable video hardware acceleration on linux with both firefox and chromium.
>Firefox has Hardware acceleration now on Linux
No, it doesn't have video decoding hardware acceleration
Why would a browser need video hardware acceleration? You don't watch videos in it, you push them to mpv.
hardware accelerated website rendering != hardware accelerated video decoding
you fucking retards
yeah i know man, need to fix this atrocity. any window theme suggestions for KDE?
TIL, thanks
>based and redpilled
1. stop using konsole
Any suggestions? Currently using it just because it comes with KDE, been considering going back to using Cool-Retro-Term just for the eye candy, I really don't need anything terribly advanced. What's the patrician's short-list?
>GNOME, 2019
>still has screen tearing
gnome-terminal, urxvtd, lxterminal if you give no fucks about 256 color mode
alacritty
Yakuake
mfw gpu accelerated terminal but not browser
Who uses a browser to watch video files?
The sub 1% Linux users sure don't
I know that at least Firefox can do it, but any sane man forgoes watching video in the browser, no matter the OS.
What's wrong with Konsole? I've been using it for a long time and I haven't had any issues
Linux is more than 45% of all personal-use computers.
Your mean 45 right?
45%
In case you didn't notice, most people use their phones and tablets instead of their computers, some even went completely over from computers. And the gross majority of smartphone/tablet users run Android, which is Linux based.
fake news
Also, iOS devices take you out of the browser into the YouTube app.
prove it, ah sorry you can't read the code.
I wish implementing va-api would be something they'd focus on more. Watching a 60fps 1080p video in Firefox makes my cpu average around ~40% usage.
~10% watching the same video with hardware accel in MPV
vo=gpu
gpu-context=auto
hwdec=auto
profile=gpu-hq

post link
export MOZ_ACCELERATED=1
export MOZ_WEBRENDER=1
thanks user
about:config
no problem here
I'm using Clear Linux
chromium-vaapi
compare it to mpv with hw on, I should've mentioned I've got a 10 year old i5.
>image
no difference
I'm using your mpv conf
You can force-enable it you fucking retard, if you're using Firefox go to about:config and set layers.acceleration.force-enabled to true.
kpopfags don't deserve performance
>Useless reply
>Reddit bookmark
Everything checks in
I barely use Reddit anymore. I had it bookmarked from when I did.
termite with termite-style is easy to setup
>image being a retard
You're the retard. You can force enable it you fag.
Windows 10 also has in-built spyware, something that Linux doesn't :D. Enjoy having your data funnelled to Micro$hit.
...
>Reddit RSS Feeds
i have about 20 subs i read daily (skim through) but never participate.
I'm not joking, you can ACTUALLY force enable hardware video decoding on Linux.
Also, I am not having any problems, which proves that OP is a fucking retard.
wiki.mozilla.org
layer rasterization is not video decoding you retarded shit
>20% cpu utilization while playing 640x360 video
my fucking sides
You're the one that's retarded lmao, at least I don't use Winjews Spyware aka Windows 10.
I have the video set to 720p you autist, the frame is in 640x360, if it were fullscreen it would show my screen res of 1366x768.
>I don't use my computer for anything productive
Yeah, we already knew that
>claims windows is used for "productivity"
>is too retarded to realize that most linux distros come bundled with libreoffice
does not support vaapi
>4 cores at 20% usage to play a fucking 720p30 video
my fucking sides 2
It uses about the same when I play it in 1080p and 4k, what's your point exactly?
>using a web browser to watch videos on linux
though i agree that OP is a retard, who the fuck doesn't use a web browser to watch videos unless they're watching movies or videos they stored on their HDD?
>about:config
You're supposed to check in about:support
I showed about:config because that's where you can enable the option at, you tard.
>imagine being you
launchpad.net
>To enable hardware video decoding, open chrome://flags, search for "Hardware-accelerated video", enable the entry, and restart Chromium.
Too bad it doesn't display any relevant informations
too bad you're a retard
using a dick a a beerholder is precisely the sort of clever "hack" stallman would have loved at mit.
If you actually used it, you'd know that it's literally trash compared to MS Office
fastcompany.com
if u read this shit u will see why ms office is trash not libre office. seriously, even computer shit needs to be politically correct? why is everyone such an offended fag now?
I pipe shit to mpv. The only time I dont pipe to mpv is when youtube-dl or streamlink lack a plugin for a webpage. I could probably use wireshark to sniff the url but its not really worth the effort.
mpv fucking sucks it has a shit UI
imagine still watching videos in your browser when youtube-dl and mpv are a thing
Imagine giving up on convenience because FOSS trannies can't implement something that's been around for ages
what convenience? a shitty browser html5 player?
you must be joking, on windows I also dont use that garbage
dude you can enable video acceleration in your browser's config you fag
What the fuck does it need a UI for? I just hit p in qutebrowser and a hint pops next to the url then I hit the two letter string and it spawns mpv with my video. cvlc wont automatically call youtube-dl to figure out how to play the video.
>linux on desktop
>2019
people with a brain just use their rss reader to get videos and open them with mpv.
nah that's what people with autism do
>not getting your videos by email
If it doesn't interrupt you while typing a document, does it matter then?
Also Jow Forums called, they want you back. Nobody gives a shit about trannies here
>videos by email
