This desu. If it's based on Chromium, it is automatically spyware no matter how hard you try to fix it. Even Iridium and Ungoogled Chromium failed in the end. Each new release of Chromium adds in new avenues of spyware and proprietary nonsense and you have to play catch up as a full time job to even stay on top. If you don't, things break fairly quickly.

Brave takes it to a whole new level and really packs in the spyware in a way that makes Firefox blush its heart out. In that sense, Firefox based browsers are the only real course of action. Firefox itself is not a candidate however, as everything its done so far has just fucked the userbase into oblivion. Pocket was the first straw, but now plugins and addons have been decimated for the average user. Waterfox is the way to go.

Gets it. Considerably mitigated firefox or already mitigated firefox forks are the best ways to go if you want a browser that is current and capable (at-least if you're on os x or windows). If you're on lignux or bsd there's a few more decent options to choose from.

It's not security that's the issue, its privacy. There is a difference. Chromium based browsers ALL call back to Google unless you go to great efforts to compile it with modifications that remove callbacks to Google which are part of the extension system even. This is why ungoogled-chromium and Bromite exist, which compile with instructions to strip those callbacks, and ungoogled-chromium will take extensions manually via drag n drop crx files or source code, to bypass connecting to Google and telling them what extensions you use when checking for updates.
Firefox itself is a privacy and freedom hypocrite, they have twice installed extensions in people's browsers remotely to track usage, and they spend their company's profits on projects that help websites build codes of conduct, and moderate (see: censor) their comment sections, create algorithms that promote left wing content on YouTube to people who are trying to look for right wing content, and combatting "le fake news", and all of their funding partners in these projects are explicitly far left organizations that work with Africans, or trans LGBT shit which is why the commenter you reply to is a fucking retard, especially for criticizing Brave as LGBT when it is run by a Christian who was expelled from CEO position in Mozilla almost a decade ago by the already entrenched SJW tranny force.
