>collapse of civilization
what a self-absorbed piece of shit
People who honestly believe the whole world revolves around computers needs to put down the mouse and go outside.
Only tech companies would suffer if a solar flare suddenly went and fried every computer on earth.
Traditional industries that existed before the integrated circuit would go back to doing business via phone and fax like they always did.

>triggered by the title
>ignore the content and don't understand his point behind it
kys and go back to tumblr.

Oh look it's the same thread again.

Fuck off back to r*ddit you nigger.

But civilization needs to collapse

>solar flare
>business via phone and fax
what did user mean by this

Have you been outside in the last 20 years? Of course you can live without computers and I bet most people would even be happier without them but the whole world does pretty much revolve around them though.

phones existed before computers, you fucking moron

Are you fucking high? Almost all of the infrastructure on earth revolves around computers.

obviously you don't belong here

jon blow is based even tho he's anti-trump

>I don't know how modern logistical systems work but BACK IN MY DAY-
SHUT THE FUCK UP GRANDPA

I mean, he's isn't entirely wrong.
The first 2 and a half minutes is also relevant here of this video youtube.com/watch?v=EovBkh9wDnM

>modern logistical systems
if you're referring to freight, road transportation and container ships, the backbone of modern logistics, that's all done on paper and with verbal communication over the phone

Based

How about he finishes and releases his compiler before bitching about other peoples software.

deadlines are for codemonkeys, jon is a real engineer

This legit triggered me. Who thinks this would be a good idea?

>Only tech companies would suffer if a solar flare suddenly went and fried every computer on earth.
What century do you think you're living in, old man?

wtf i love jon now

>Look, I just need a chalkboard and a land line and I can handle the 3 million shipments in a day in a single port. Computers are irrelevant. Why yes its still 1962 in my mind. Why do you ask?

>(English only)
Why the xenophobia?

Everyone remotely connected to reality is anti-blumpf

I don't get this. The caption says it's more complicated, but it's clearly more straightforward.

>I don't get this
that's clear

Explain then why you think language server is a bad thing.

No more paper files. No more address books, no more pictures.
It would all vanish in a blink of an eye.
No records, no ability to access credit or create credit.
No ability to pay anyone, or process payments.
Code is bloated and unstable as it is and will only get more bloated until it instant crashes on new hardware.
The smart people who developed software did so on the back of smart people developing hardware.
Its reaching a point where software will need to carry hardware if advancements are to be made.

Pretty sure he's just a radical centrist. All his hipster friends disowned him when he said that Antifa are facists and that even people with horrible opinions should be allowed to voice them without being deplatformed.

>Explain
listen to the video in OP. all is there.

No, no, no.
You are wrong.
So wrong i had to tell you, you are wrong.
Someone on the internet was wrong and i just had to tell them they were mistaken about how payments, logistics, banking and transport works.
Then i got tired and decided to take a nap instead.

He doesn't. He simply says "LSP is just bad. Also, if you're using one server protocol, you should use 1000 of server protocols that depend on 1000s of others because muh slippery slope".

Because its shit and by the time even retards like you realize it its going to be too late to fix.

The moment I heard language servers existed, I knew it was the wrong way to solve the issue of handling static linters.
I didn't even have to look at it's implementation to ask WHY IS THIS A FUCKING SERVER

I don't entirely agree with him. There'll always be autists who know about assembly etc. they're just not as common as your pajeet code monkey and therefore too expensive to hire for every kind of shitware. Hell, all performance software nowadays is still written in C/C++ and it's not really gonna change.
Yes there are more unity C# script babies copy&pasting code snippets together but that doesn't mean the low-level programmers are going anywhere, it's not a zero sum game.

The idea behind LSP is leveraging the compiler for tooling. Is (often poorly) reinventing compiler functionality better?

So, you formed your uninformed opinion on LSP based on an emotional response to the word "server". Looking at the implementation would probably not been very useful anyway, because people who know fuck all about compilers these days tend to be compiler hackers themselves, and they generally think of compilers as servers as a pretty good idea.

Imagine how optimized an operating system like VMS were in the 60s and 70s. Even early windows NT or Bell Labs Unix. Now look at the software today. Linux is incredibly bloated and that is the least of all evils. Gnome is written in Javascript. There must be like 12 layers of abstraction between gnome and the cpu. Not to mention all these gay frameworks for the web. An IBM 1401 had the computing power equivalent of a PC from the 90s. It ran MVS or system 370, DBII, and JCL. You could use it reliably without fail to run a multinational bank. All with dumb terminals. Look at the cluster fuck now. All of that extra computing power goes to more and more abstraction layers and frameworks to re-invent the wheel the most inefficient way possible.

Wow, really? Over dependence on fucking hipster frameworks that perform like absolute ass is a problem?

> Preventing the Collapse of Civilization by literally who
Like half of software fags aren't trying to destroy civilization with their political bullshit forced into everything.
True. If military tech can be shielded from emp then everything else can too so I don't think it would be as bad.

you think it's an obvious problem, but it's not getting solved, it's only getting worse as sunk-cost gets stronger every day.

It's also massively contributing to global warming and destroying the earth.

i don't use youtube much but it looks like its interface becomes crappier with every update

can u mutts stay on topic, every thread has to devolve into orange man bad.

>preventing it
Fuck preventing it. There's no other way for the shitheads who caused life to be so awful, filled with hatred for everyone from everyone, to get what they deserve. And there's no other path to improvement, every other route ends in a multipolar trap.

>Fuck preventing it
all useless incel retards have this fantasy about wanting to see society collapse because they can't take other people having lives when they themselves don't.
it's maximum pathetic.

Wow someone notices that 500GB websites that can't even display text without 16 JS scripts or apps needing a 4GHz processor and 4GB of RAM aren't sustainable? Hold the fucking presses I think we got a front page right here.

>agreeing with the most brainlet opinion in the room

humans were a mistake

programmers*

Anything outside central Europe was a mistake and should be dealt with at once.

we need to give rise to cyborgs then kill off all of the useless eaters and gutter trash

isn't this the faggot that made that shitty "indie" game?
why is he talking about technology?

Because that's what talks are like.

The story goes like this: Earth is captured by a technocapital singularity as renaissance rationalitization and oceanic navigation lock into commoditization take-off. Logistically accelerating techno-economic interactivity crumbles social order in auto-sophisticating machine runaway. As markets learn to manufacture intelligence, politics modernizes, upgrades paranoia, and tries to get a grip.

The body count climbs through a series of globewars. Emergent Planetary Commercium trashes the Holy Roman Empire, the Napoleonic Continental System, the Second and Third Reich, and the Soviet International, cranking-up world disorder through compressing phases. Deregulation and the state arms-race each other into cyberspace.

By the time soft-engineering slithers out of its box into yours, human security is lurching into crisis. Cloning, lateral genodata transfer, transversal replication, and cyberotics, flood in amongst a relapse onto bacterial sex.

Neo-China arrives from the future.

Hypersynthetic drugs click into digital voodoo.

Retro-disease.

Nanospasm.

Beyond the Judgement of God. Meltdown: planetary china-syndrome, dissolution of the biosphere into the technosphere, terminal speculative bubble crisis, ultravirus, and revolution stripped of all christian-socialist eschatology (down to its burn-core of crashed security). It is poised to eat your TV, infect your bank account, and hack xenodata from your mitochondria.

Machinic Synthesis. Deleuzoguattarian schizoanalysis comes from the future. It is already engaging with nonlinear nano-engineering runaway in 1972; differentiating molecular or neotropic machineries from molar or entropic aggregates of nonassembled particles; functional connectivity from antiproductive static.

emps are a fucking meme and technology has changed considerably since we invented the transistor and the integrated circuit and while they are a huge threat to infrastructure theres videos of iphones withstanding like 700k volts/meter which is a hundred times more than what a nuclear bomb can accomplish

I thought we were talking about solar flares and not EMPs? And even so who cares about your iPhone? Critical infrastructure like phone lines which are still surprisingly common, switches, servers, power lines, etc are all very much susceptible to both solar flares and EMPs and both pose actual credible threats to the worlds infrastructure.

Also forgot to mention satellites which get fucking fried if you detonate a nuke at high enough orbit or they are unfortunate enough to get caught in a strong enough solar flare.

Why prevent it?

Was wondering when you were going to show up, Nick.

This, we are an expired product that just keeps on rotting inside its isolated package

>redditor

"D-do I fit in, guys?"

Where is he implying anything? You are absolutely arseblasted because he mentioned someone you don't like. That is peak reddit and now go back to your containment website.

>put a quarter in my door and go outside
>my eyes are instantly blinded from the digital billboard screens
>a cacophony of noises emit from people's phones
>a lady is tweeting about the fact her fitbit told her she was having a heart attack
>decide it's time to go back inside because the 5G is making my nose bleed

If you say so, redditor.

Refer back to

Sorry for not liking your popsci meme idol Elon Musk, normalfag.

I wonder if you even realize how you just outed yourself.

Last I knew redditors (and Jow Forumstards, by extension) idolized Elon Musk.

>can't go 2 minutes without being triggered
millennials

You're being as ironic as possible. This is an anonymous imageboard, we don't deal in groups or identity politics like that. Just because Reddit doesn't like something doesn't mean everyone here has to dislike that thing.
I hope you're being insincere just for the attention and don't actually buy into that kind of bullshit.

Preference is the only answer

>they can't take other people having lives when they themselves don't
Fuck. You've got me there. But it's impossible to get a life when you're starting from a position where everyone hates you. And by default, everyone does. It's only your friends that don't. To everyone else, you're just in the way, or one of their personal boogeymen. And now, thanks to social media, you have to have friends for anyone to even want to be friends with you.

Jesus Christ what kind of nightmarish parallel dimension are you posting from? Leave the house once in a while, preferably to go see a therapist about the paranoia and anxiety oozing from your post.

>we don't deal in groups or identity politics like that
Are you joking? That's practically all there is to this site!

you can't be mean *and* wrong

And where would I possibly go that wouldn't get me shot, harassed by cops, or posted about on social media ultimately leading to my identification and subsequent harassment of my employer until I was fired? When you talk to people, your options leak, your phrasing and expressions give it away. And these days, it's not okay to have the wrong opinion. Not being okay with that is part of the wrong opinion.

user seriously go look for a therapist. The US might be a shithole but you can't tell me it's THAT much of a shithole.

It absolutely is, and if you can't see that, it's because you've got friends and family who will be upset if something bad happens to you and possibly try to help do something about it.
It's either that or, you're just okay with everything the man on TV says, you just accept all of that, or you think that you accept enough of it to assume you'll have the mob at your back. But you'll be a hypocrite the day the press decides to condemn you (and they will) if you don't just shrug and convince yourself you deserve it.

No it's just that I don't live in that 7th world shithole. But seriously look into therapy user, there is help out there and failing that there is still morphine tablets.

It's not that hard to make friends if you really try.
>have hobbies
>practice good hygiene
>go to meet ups for people with your hobby
>be polite and friendly to them
>figure out which ones have shared interests with you outside the hobby
>exchange phone numbers
>hang out with them more often
>congratulations, you are now friends

Just because that's all you witness and/or engage with, does not make it the case. That's classic observation bias my dude.

Intel bought out a company that is working on a way to distribute cpu usage over the entire cpu regardless of how many cores it was written to use which is cpu agnostic and has working working examples . Don't worry about it.

we should honestly just abolish money and let people free. the problem will solve itself.
we should also start eating exclusively lab-grown food if we want to sustain ourselves for our future.

>I don't get this. The caption says it's more complicated, but it's clearly more straightforward.
Basically he's mad that people are building software that works across process boundaries instead of linking a bunch of libraries together and making people write C.

Attached: rms_pepper_juggler.gif (403x447, 316K)

we could also just kill off all of the useless eater. start with the first 6 billion or so that are the most worthless.

>and let people free
Is this the exact set of words you wanted to say?
Anyway, I would be inclined to agree somewhat if by abolish money you mean abolish self-deprecating worthless fiat currency and forgive the debts that were made into it. But fiat currency is a multipolar trap, you need superpowers or a massive disaster to destroy it.

And technically, we all eat lab grown food, as a farmer's field is his LABORatory.

See this is exactly what I mean. Climate change is considered everyone's problem, everyone has a share of liability in it, but the sum total of everyone's other than your liability is far more than your liability. So you blame everyone else for making the world worse, and you give yourself an excuse to hate everyone. You think being vocal about the problem is enough, because you're still polluting, about as much as everyone else around you is, and it would take an inhuman amount of effort for you to be able to stop, so you hope the government put forth that inhuman effort. But in the mean time, you're still part of the problem by simply living, and are as contemptible as everyone you think should be killed off.
This is just one example of the ways our culture puts everyone against everyone else.

Not that I disagree that your suggestion would solve the problem. It's just that overpopulation is a multipolar trap. Only a supreme authority over all the world can resolve it, and any supreme authority made up of people is going to become tyrannical.

You can say nonwhites, we all know what you mean.

Jon Blow doesn't afraid of anything. His meditation video was really helpful. His tech videos and experience reports are interesting and useful as well. He's also coming out with a programming language that seems neat. I can't find a fault.

>are mistaken when they think technology automatically improves, it does not automatically improve
You know this is true because you can see it. It only improves when someone does it. Likewise what he said about the pyramids and forgetting how to make them. How many of you today have ever recovered something from archive.org that has been removed from the internet.
A tar, source code, general information via text. It happens all the time, and it's awful.

Other than the fact that it's another god damn programming language in a world of fifty zillion, none of which ever seem to just get retired so we don't have to worry about them anymore.

Other than suggesting that devs should write software in universal machine language for "simplicity".

youtu.be/pW-SOdj4Kkk?t=1931
>I don't think we want to program things in assembly language
I feel like the point that follows this is massive. Unix in 3 weeks with little to no prior art to take from. Compare that to what modern teams do in 3 weeks today with higher level abstractions.
How is it anything but true that modern "simpler" languages are actually more complicated.

The bullshit about targeting different OS layers instead of different machine layers makes a lot of sense as well. Ironically more today then it used to since we're basically settled on the architectures instead of everyone having their own.

If we started targeting actual machines again instead of the abstraction on top of them, what would we lose really?
Imagine also that it's 1 language per machine type. So realistically you'd have to know x86 and what, maybe ARM? And if everyone else did it and package management was what it is today you'd have a library for any and everything and you wouldn't have to worry about OS compat or any other bullshit like that.

The whole thing sounds like the same arguments sung by lisp enthusiasts, and they might be right.

imagine being this retarded

this talk is too high IQ for Jow Forums.
maybe next time make a thread about how the jews are throtteling our CPUs or a rust vs C thread or some other faggotry.
