Whatever happened to Anonymous?

I was a little too young to notice Anonymous when they were in full swing. I have read about them recently though. I was wonder if Jow Forums could fill me in on some of the details. Who was Anonymous? The good guys? The bad guys? Both? What did they accomplish? Also wondering what does LulzSec mean and what is a L.O.I.C.? I've seen a few references to the terms but not much explanation.

that anonymous hacktevism was escalated by 2 things:

1. corrupt iraq war
2. bailout of wall street

what has replaced ops sense of hacktivism is 'sjw rage culture' for boycotting and going after corporate sponsorship. This is the new war tactic.

Probably all in jail by now.

this one always cracks me up

Kids too busy with fortknight and instagram to give a damn about 'hacktivism'.

Also anonymous was predominantly looked down upon in those days,,, and probably still is by most serious people.

The real "spirit" of Anonymous died in 2006-2007.bRetreated into obscurity.

What came afterwards was just a bunch of scriptkiddies and posers, playing with its corpse, like a bad rehash of that Weekend at Bernies movie.

Infiltrated and tamed by the CIA which resulted in them completely ceasing any anti-US activity (happened around their support for OWS which was very interesting actually, because at first this website supported it fully as well and then suddenly a lot of anti-OWS comments flooded us and made people here turn against it but that's another topic, the fact that inorganic pro-american pro-war posts flood every major board every time the US is about to do something is also another topic)

It was a small group of people actually doing the exploits and cracks. And it became very popular so allot of internet faggots wanted to be cool and branded themselves as a group.
Dont worry, soon (20-50years) when Dues Ex becomes a reality we will get cyber crime/terrorism

So mainsteeem broooo

but nah. it's a shame those principles were so easily stamped out with the utterance of a single word. "cringe"

Put the phone down and pay attention to the teacher son.

Anyone have the original source code for loic? Not the one that's been modified as a botnet that's available now.

The "Anonymous" group was mis-reported by Fox News and it went from there..
There was literally never any core group.

Don't forget to get a dog.

This user knows. I can't believe that so many retards fell for the meme and still continue to larp as "Anonymous".

people thought that because younger milleanials and zoomers knew how to use a smarthphone since an early age they are computer proficient. It was false, they don't even know how computers works.

It's very fashionable these days to shit on Anonymous and it's history because it's currently about as cool as baggy jeans. But you should know that back in it's peak years, it was a widely popular movement/idea on Jow Forums. This was, of course, before your Mom and the rest of the public knew about it and it still had underground cachet.

To put it another way, look at Jow Forums. It's the second biggest board under /v/ and has inspired large, historically significant real life events (Berkeley, Charlottesville, etc). Yes, it is loathed by many here, but it's also super popular. Same thing for Anonymous back in the day.

All I'm saying is don't let today's cringy, Hot Topic version of anonymous completely influence how you look at a significant piece of board history. There's a decent book you can look at called "Hacker, Hoaxer, Whistleblower, Spy" if you want to learn.

LOIC was/is an unsigned windows exe that newfags downloaded from sketchy websites in order to mount mass DDOS campaigns against anyone their IRC masters told them to. Oh, and of course it was directly from their ISP IP so a lot of them DID get arrested for it.

Attached: Nouvelle image bitmap (14)_copy.jpg (740x643, 86K)

Turned out they were Russian hackers who schemed with Wikileaks to destroy democracy. So nobody likes them anymore

They grew up.

Ok, you want to know the rough stuff?
Get a book called "We Are Anonymous: Inside the Hacker World of LulzSec". You can find a pdf on b-ok.org.

tl;dr Sabu (the "leader" of Lulzsec) was a snitch for the FBI and fucked everyone else over. The end.

I'd really recommend you reading the book, though. One of the most amazing things in there was that Lulzsec didn't even hack most of the things they published. Other people gave them the scoops, and they just published them.

Just because you started browsing in 2006 and helped ddos Ebaumsworld doesn't mean your "movement" was valid, you're just a retard and always were.

B-but who exploded the van?

Sotrmfag niggers took over 4chinz, the movement's leader assumed his cuckoldry and is now sucking cocks for anime and social justice.

Pretty good write up right here. From my own experiences I would also add all the cringe little /i/ boards where it was just rubberneckers asking how to learn hacking with no serious desire to learn even when told, PA requests to harass some girl's phone and facebook, and occasional forum raids.

You younger dudes didn't miss a thing honestly.

The mysterious hacker known as Four Chan

>Oh, and of course it was directly from their ISP IP so a lot of them DID get arrested for it.

sounds like they should have used the 7 layer proxy condom.

I want to believe that their War on the Mexican Cartels went bad, and that they're lying headless in ditches all across Chihuahua...but the reality is being an activist of any kind doesn't pay unless you're running an organized charity

Occupy wall Street at it's origins was a masterclass at social engineering. To this day I still kind of am mesmerized by the coverage of it. And the immediate reaction to it.

Lel, this is true. However I still have respect for them.
How easy is it to become a recognizable influence overall today? Probably not.

Yeah I noticed hacktivism seemed to have died after lulzSec and.. lizard something got caught.

Then again who knows. Maybe it will come back.

They started with some stupid trolling. The Scientology thing lead to a buch of them taking things seriously, which was instantly fail and AIDs, but the rise of Occupy Wall Street, Wikileaks, and the Arab Spring all played a part in keeping that bag of cats somewhat directed.
Then Lulzsec took off, kicked a bunch of people in the teeth, and promptly got themselves arrested because commiting felonies in groups 'for fun' is a really good way to give the FBI every tool they could ever want.

Amazed by a whole bunch of nothing and heaping piles of hippie tent-city trash?
You sure are easy.
I only went to an OWS thing in my area to internally laugh at all the retards.

It was my first experience with that group "discussion" style where they all zombie-repeat what someone is saying.
The memes are real.

neoliberalism isn't left

Lulzsec was a FBI sting operation. Read up on "Sabu".

meanwhile some anonymous dude has been DDOSing a ton of darkweb markets by abusing a TOR exploit to fuck with the onion layer. he's been demanding that they pay him money or else he won't stop DDOSing.

Retards like this drove everyone away. It's not cool anymore when all you talk about is tranny rights and women in tech

all of those groups are fronts created as misdirections to funnel effort and manpower into things that won't upset the status quo

>Anonymous
a bunch of random fagots..
most of theme dosent do anything or even know any basic code
>L.O.I.C.
thats a DDOS tool DDOS is overflow server by any kind of data it can be simple http req
or sending byts to UDP port
imagine 1000000 people asking from you to do things or just talking shit to you at the same time..
that whats happen to a webserver or any device when you DDOS him.

Also since moot basically banned ra/i/ds most of the organization fell into IRC with only fliers ending up on Jow Forums.
Most of the time they were just LOICing random shit and knocking sites offline like morons. Tor's Hammer was a fun week to watch though..

Sabu was a retard who logged into IRC without passing traffic over Tor. Unsurprisingly he was arrested pretty much immediately, flipped same day, and set about selling out everyone else; gathering info for the feds in exchange for a better plea deal.

The entire thing fell to rancor after Lulzsec. The last time I checked in it was just piles retards accusing eachother of being feds. All the talent either went to jail or went to ground.

It's probably around, but LOIC was just a network flooder. There were a bunch of versions, and none of them were great. The only reason it worked was because a few hundred people would be in IRC agreeing on an IP or domain name to hit. The combined bandwidth was enough to knock most sites offline for a while. Except Nintendo.jp.

Also it had Hivemind mode pretty early on.

most hackers that can actually hack are in it for money now crypto-lockers and stealing data from companies/wealthy individuals and aksing for bitcoin or they will make info public

some went directly for bitcoin (and other crypto-currency) exchanges/casinos when they didn't have good security

hakctivism is dead

Lulzsec were legit, but they knew each other personally (and so weren't technically part of 'anonymous') and then when one of them did get caught they ratted out all the others.

i am anonymousse.

>people doing illegal activities and being public about it as they pretend to be anonymous has declined once people realized the FBI was still arresting faggots doing any illegal shit as "anonymous"

Wow!!!

>Anonymous
>Russian Hackers
>Israeli Intelligence
>Jow Forums

They are one and the same, for we are many

I'm read about some of the hacktivism they did; a lot of it seems like things that Jow Forums wouldn't be on board with now.

Those were like the Ron Paul days. Frankly all the activism, and hacktivism that caught publicity for Jow Forums was a terrible turn for the worst. I don't have any idea how Jow Forums got perceived as a home for the alt-right and the influx of people that publicity came with. I suppose it was people jokingly shitposting nigger on Jow Forums and somebody in the Klan found out and shared it with everyone like it was some big news and then we have Jow Forums and Jow Forums as we know it.

"Anonymous" is just everyone. Started with Slashdot's "Anonymous coward" when posting without logging in. Spread to Japan in 2ch since the creator then was inspired by slashdot, then picked up by that faggot moot.

LulzSec was a Hacktivism group. Hacktivism is still around under many groups. The younger generation are shit at computers and aren't capable of it though. LulzSec was pretty bad at it. Some of the best was Cult of the Dead Cow (which apparently has people from it that are now senators in the USA and one presidential candidate, Bete Orourke). I personally think that hacktivists are less identifiable now as hacktivists since dark web communications tools are much more robust now. They can't be detected from their communications as being part of a group so they can't squeal on eachother. Infact, I'm sure there are groups on the dark web that build relations entirely through places like i2p so they can't rat on eachother and when they are caught it just looks like a lone hacker. They aren't gone, just better hackers.

Jow Forums originally wasn't really into real hacktivism or any political shit, just doing goofy pranks "for the lulz." Most of the old Jow Forums trolling shit was hilarious (like the battle toads thing). The original Jow Forums culture came from something awful mixed with 2ch. Some lame asses that got vanned hijacked the anonymous identity which prompted people on Jow Forums to start blaiming shit on ebaumsworld instead as a joke.

My favorite shit user is doing now though is creating false nazi conspiracies like the "ok" sign to get the left raging about it only to disillusion them with the fact that they created it to show how irrational they are. That is fucking top notch trolling in my eyes and I've been around Jow Forums and something awful since the early early days.

I've been on /b/ since the beginning like 2004/5.
Even back then every joke was a negra joke and there were often "fun nigger fact" threads in between caturdays.

Surprisingly though, and you probably won't believe this, Jow Forums was heavily in support of Obama because of his tax policies during the election cycle. Let that sink in for a bit.

Jow Forums is just a website
anonymous are a bunch of crackers that share the same goal.. they dont even need to know each other,
they spread the L.O.I.C program in Jow Forums threads, and than some script kiddies download it and start to use it.. some of theme get arrested..
the so called "Project Chanology"
Was one of the more special operations of the community
And you could see how many sheep were there

Anonymous is an unorganized organization without hierarchy ..
without leaders..
without a plan..
Only chaos that is based on activism

He will not divide us is peak modern Jow Forums Anonymous. Shia LeBouf cancels his IRL shitposting stream after getting into too many fights with baneposters and flies a flag up in the middle of nowhere declaring victory over trolls. Anons analyse flightplans of background planes and the position of the sun and somehow track his house down and steal his flag on air.

anonymous died 11 years ago man.

Jow Forums was also heavily in support of Ron Paul in 2012.

Anonymous died the day it became part of the lefty identity. It was split in 2 : Jow Forums and the "activists" from Occupy Wall Street

but that wrong, you retard. it couldn't die then because it "died" like 20 times before that.

look, Jow Forums anonymous has always been a mouth piece of the general zeitgeist in a certain era. Zeitgeists don't die, they change. They're fluid because people come and go and ideals change.

Ron Paul and Obama were seen as a rational lean to the left after the financial crisis cause by corporate greed that was seen to be in bed with republicanism which was real. The same people posting gore videos on /f/ and nigger jokes on /b/...

I had this same sort of conversation over a decade ago and I'll probably be talking to some kid when im in by 50's about how anonymous internet culture didn't "die" within their short memory of it.

Not to mention the FSB agent(s) that infiltrated antisec, and by extension Anonymous.

>Lulzsec
>CIA
[Citation needed]

so posting gore is right wing?
kek

faggots that wear masks in public parks not are "Hacktivism".

is it difficult for you to hold more than one concept in your head at one time?

Anonymous has always been script kiddie larper faggots. Now they have been co-opted by Antifa faggots making them even more gay.

check the overlap of sjw/infosec twitter where most of them hang out these days.

I remember going to chanology in the old days, watching the irl protests and seeing peak /b/ in the works.

How do you feel about movements like iotbw and mbmc, irl shitposting movements and the such? I led one of them and I want to make them truly as great as old /b/ was

In b4 /b/ was never good

I never even noticed politics on Jow Forums back then. I do remember this place getting much edgier in 2007 or so. Less aurodynamic niggers le bike theft king memes from the mudkips era and more niggers kick cat into neighbors lawn gifs and fights ending in sizures. Gore threads became very common. I've never seen as many anons cutting their lymph nodes out or the awesome face in their stomach than then. That shit stopped in 2013, but not the minorities doing objectionable things gifs/webms which got even more brutal with access to liveleak. Everything became much more demoralizing. Race jokes were now SPLC estimates when whites will become a minority in the US. It's like /b/ saw too much and snapped.

This

And honestly/pol/ isnt that racist

If I could direct you to the pre-zimmerman happening of dorner, ie chocolate Rambo, they were cheering him on and even helped prove the cops tried (and succeeded) in killing him unlawfully.
