I would get a dumbphone but then I've have to buy dedicated units to replace everything I'm losing. Dumb phones are only good for calls, and maybe texts. Then I'd have to go out and get a decent camera, a dedicated GPS unit, a dedicated music player for my car, etc. At that point, why bother?

i've been wanting to do this for a while, get a dumb phone. then i checked the price plans and they're the same fucking price as my 3gb one (35 canadian loonies). what the fuck, i thought that since it's only voice/texts it would have been like 15$ a month max.

Don't you get PAYG plans? I can put a tenner in my phone in the UK and it lasts for ages because I never call anyone and occasionally send a text or two to organise a piss up.

I would've used dumbphone if there was any dumbphone with a soc at least as powerful as low-end android phones instead of that 15mhz bullshit that takes a whole second to react to button press and hidpi screen with nice non-pixelated fonts and icons. It baffles me that any $50 chink smartphone is miles better hardware-wise than absolutely any dumbphone on the market.

Is there anything that looks like an old dumbphone, but with the capabilities of a smartphone? Good amount of storage, good camera, wifi, apps, bluetooth, games, etc?

Good lucky finding anything else that is 4G LTE that doesn't have botnet software.
Dumbphones or feature phones are loaded with proprietary firmware.

The best bet is to get a android GO phone (256MB/512MB ram) that is unlockable bootloader and flash TWRP/Magisk and undervolt it so it lasts days worth of battery.

Keep it airgapped and only use ADB via USB to transfer data to a secure rig.

T Mobile has a minimal plan with no data service that starts at 3$ a month. If you rarely use your phone or use WiFi a lot it should work out

If you think excessive phone use is detrimental to your life getting rid of your smartphone is one surefire way to stop it. Without 24/7 internet access at your fingertips you might have to read a book or talk to strangers in public for once.
