I don't even fucking know how many on my phone, chrome for android likes to print a :D face once it goes over 100, it's nearly all trap doujins.

He doesn't use OneTab.

Tree Style Tabs

I think it stems from people using web apps and viewing content behind a login wall. There is no reason to have many tabs open if you are just viewing public static content.

18

>There is no reason to have many tabs open if you are just viewing public static content
I disagree

I mean you can but you are playing a dangerous game. Bookmark what you need to bookmark. Download what you need to download. Not to mention leaving stuff open that you don't actually need is just giving more opportunity for security exploits.

>I-I'll look at them all eventually!
I never learn

Bookmarks are for things I'll repeatedly want to go back to. Tabs that get left open are for things I only temporarily need
>Not to mention leaving stuff open that you don't actually need is just giving more opportunity for security exploits.
If the tab's been unused for so long it gets unloaded, no worries there.

what are on these tabs?

porn

I use tabs instead of bookmarks for sites I plan to read eventually and then close (bookmarks are for stuff I plan to open regularly). The 1600 tabs are actually split in several tab groups with 200-500 tabs each, so it's not quite as bad as it sounds like. Some of these tabs have been open since Firefox 4.0 days, by the way.

Why would you have more than one tab open at any given time?

You start doing a thing. You then open Jow Forums. You find some cool software. You start watching YouTube videos about that. Something of interest appears in the recommended videos. You think up something new. You check if someone already did it on the internet. You check then the current GPU prices.
Basically, you constantly start doing things when you yet have to finish something, and end up with 50 tabs.

~2800 on my main window and I have 6 other windows open

only 273 atm

I hate having any more than 2-3 tabs open. I'm paranoid enough about drive-by scripts doing stuff in the background when I'm not paying attention, I don't need that fear multiplied by 500.

Why do you think I perma-blacklisted all javascript from every website? Just posting on Jow Forums is a pain without enabling the 500 scripts they require.

I use an addon that can save sessions for that. That way the things I will "definitely look up later" don't clutter up my tab bar.
I feel.like I have too many tabs when I can no longer identify them quickly because too much of the title isn't visible due to their small size (so about >20)

3, because I am not one of those retards that use tabs as bookmarks.

>I feel.like I have too many tabs when I can no longer identify them quickly because too much of the title isn't visible due to their small size (so about >20)
>using chrom*

With Firefox you can adjust the minimum tab width.

like maybe 5 or 6 right now my dude

I use tab groups to somewhat group related tabs together.
As for navigation, I have a minimum tab size (IIRC it's 140px, which is enough to navigate among the immediately related left/right tabs) and otherwise I can just use :buffer to look up tabs by title or URL.

50-60

Firefox actually
If I set it higher then the problem just changes. While the tabs aren't too small anymore, they sinply are off-screen, and I have to scroll to them.

Is there session addon that actually works with TST? Every time I restore a session with Tab Session Manager I just have a massive lump of tabs that I have to manually reorganize. Just one of the the wonderful issues WebExtensions has plagued me with

IIRC, you have to enable TST compatibility in Tab Session Manager's settings.

I mean, I would, but...

There's a link on the left side for older versions, you just scroll through and install the newest version that works.

Which version are you on, user?

Os? Browser?

Second quoted link, GNU/Linux with Pale Moon+Pentadactyl.

500-1500 MiB or so, depending on the amount of actually loaded tabs. Most of the tabs that I'm not actively used are unloaded. These only really affect startup speed (can be ~30 seconds, but thankfully I seldom restart my browser).
Note that it's still about half or so of what modern FF would use with the same number of loaded tabs (though modern FF starts faster with lots of tabs).

~250
how do we fix ourselves, tabhoarder bros?

That's pretty impressive

>this whole time the problem was a simple box I hadn't checked
Well fuck

I'm using the latest ESR but that's irrelevant. The point is that you just scroll until you find an addon compatible with your version.

4-6 maybe, dunno left home a few hours ago. Had 40+ in 3 separate windows a few days ago for weeks thou.

Fair enough, I'd rather go with something that doesn't require the use of an older version. Went with Panorama Tab which recreates that old firefox functionality from the past

Thanks for the advice anyway :)

9 right now because i just woke up. i usually have like 30+

i'm trying to cut down, see

If you have more than 50tabs open you're probably fucking retarded.

15 tabs on my desktop, but 89 across browsers on my phone. I should clean up the latter again some time.

Or you have TST installed

don't judge me

what the fuck

Would you share as screenshot of what that mess looks like?

i can't i'd have to scroll through the tabs

I don't trust tab sync anymore, halp ;_;

>mfw sitting here on 170 tabs on avrg everyday
and some of my buds were blown away by that, now i see this hardcore fuckery holy shit.

Based but also highly relatable.

Do you at least use tab groups

>If I set it higher then the problem just changes. While the tabs aren't too small anymore, they sinply are off-screen, and I have to scroll to them.
then use tree style tabs

no, i just vaguely remember where all the sites i have open are and then spend a minute or 2 scrolling to them

Why don't you guys just use bookmarks? I had a shit ton of anime/games/guides etc. open so I wouldn't lose it but I realized that I could just bookmark it and went from ~100 to 5-10 in daily use.

i used to use bookmarks back when browsers didn't support tabs, or couldn't unload tab contents
nowadays i don't see much use for bookmarks, an unloaded tab serves the most common purpose of a bookmark "i'll get back to it later"
for me, the only things i use bookmarks for is things like;
- webcomics (basically a real bookmark)
- things which are difficult to remember/hard to find, and can't be downloaded (pretty rare)
things i'm not finished with i leave open as a tab, things i'm finished with which don't fall under the above categories get closed. i recall tabs from searching history (i basically treat the address bar history search like a kind of bookmarking system in and of itself)

Bookmarks are for things that you want to come back to multiple times. Tabs are for things you'll get to later and will likely only look at once, or for things you're actively working on.

On Jow Forums you can actually bookmark your comment and check a couple days later for replies.
>just append /#p71062612 to the url

>things you'll get to later and will likely only look at once
I just bookmark those and put it in a folder. For example, I have an anime plan to play folder that has games I plan to play. I obviously don't need to visit that page multiple times but I have it bookmarked so if I think "what to play" I can check there. I used to have them all open but then I realized bookmarks made more sense.

>Here, use this addon so you too can develop unpractical tab-hoarding habits.

>my vision of what bookmarks are for is the only true one
Ok, retard.
Removing bookmark is one ctrl-d away, you can search through them, use tags, divide them into groups however you want, they don't hog ram and are much easier to backup/restore.
Just admit that you're a mentally ill hoarder.

Attached: pixelated_cait.png (1288x1646, 1.9M)

>much easier to backup/restore.
This is the big thing for me. When I switch computers I can get all the bookmarks really easliy.

1

>my vision of what bookmarks are for is the only true one
I answered a question with my opinion.
A tab is more directly coupled to the page: once I close it it's gone and I don't have to do anything else. Theyre also searchable and with addons I can manage them however I please.

4:
>WhatsApp Web
>plug.dj
>Facebook
>Jow Forums

You know, it is possible to delete bookmarks after they are no longer needed.

>Theyre also searchable and with addons I can manage them however I please
You can do all this with bookmarks, natively. It's all been possible since Netscape Navigator days. You can even import and export bookmarks to other browsers on different systems without addons.

I open a new tab for anything that I want to read later. And when I read a page I again open tabs for things I want to read and so on. Once I'm done with a page I close the tab.
It's like like a call stack for a recursive function

5
More than 10 and you have diogenes syndrome

I use a browser that don't have tabs on purpose, so 1

One time I look at my mom's chrome window on her phone and there were so many tabs it just showed a smiley face instead of a number.

Which one?

:)

Probably Surf. You can patch it to support tabs but by default it doesn't

2

Disable Privacy.ResistFingerprinting

120
I rarely close tabs until I'm done with them and just keep them for later reading.

197, although i lost my browser state a few weeks ago and that was near 300

fucking THIS

5

You got 200 tabs in a week?

To all the people saying bookmarks are for things you use frequently and tabs for things you want to use once, what are the tab turnover rates? How long do you keep that tab open, on average, before you close it?

nah i was able to find a crash recovery state from a few months prior, took me back to 150ish

2.

I'll have between 1-15 tabs in normal browsing or so, 30+ if I'm downloading porn.
