Thanks for the new bread, OP!

Issued an E560 by work how blessed am I

How well can one expect various Source engine games to run under Linux on an X220? I've been planning on picking up an X220 as they're easily more than powerful enough to run all the games I own under Windows, but recently learned that Steam is completely breaking compatibility with older versions of Windows after Microsoft ends support for them and I don't want to have to worry about messing with versions of Windows after 7 after Microsoft drops support for it next year. The Linux system requirements that Steam lists for games like Portal 2 under Linux are significantly higher though (calling for a 8600GT and a 2.8 GHz dual core processor minimum) and that makes me worried.

I love my T430.

t420/x220 are the last good thinkpads. If you have a chiclet keyboard you are consuming so.ylent products

Took my gf on a date

Attached: IMG_20190520_123237.jpg (4000x3000, 3.27M)

is t430 worth buying with t420 keyboard mod?

My bad if you had already mentioned that, I was too lazy to read all of your posts. Maybe just get her a toughbook instead?

Where do you guys get new batteries for older thinkpads? My x200 battery is dying and I wanna replace it

Attached: 1557543789464.jpg (560x560, 316K)

Have an x230 tablet and the keyboard from my x220. Is it painless to change the keyboard?

No. Disassembling the keyboard to tape the pins can take a while as the pins are very small and the keyboard top piece is difficult to remove without breaking. The areas where the palmrest meet the keyboard also need some minor modification. It is best to use the X220T palmrest.

Okay thanks. Guess I'll stick with this retarded chicklet then where I never know if cap's lock is on

You can just connect the keyboard without taping the pins. AFAIK nobody has reported any adverse effects worth giving a damn about.

ebay. They're pretty cheap for the x200.

this. Truly the last thinkpads. RIP

Huh, Z61t is comfy.

>z series
not a thinkpad

epic

Whoa here, i dont ask your opinion.
The name of this thing "Thinkpad", if you don't like Z-series, you can go fuck yourself.

anyone here who has a X250?

how did you fix the touchpad jumping/pausing every 0.5 seconds on linux?
it happens everytime I move the cursor or scroll at slow speeds

Fun fact. Just coz it has thinkpad slapped on it does not allow it to be a thinkpad. Last thinkpads were the x220 and t420. Everything that came after those are gookpads. Anything that came before those that weren't X T or W series were just cheap copies of the superior product. L series aren't thinkpads and neither are Z series.

>X250
don't bother. It's not a thinkpad.

>E series

I didn't tape the pins when putting a T420 keyboard in my T430, it just blew the keyboard backlight fuse. Nothing else AFAIK.

I'm wanting to get a thinkpad, and sell my desktop since im moving 4000 km away. What specs should I get to be able to emulate super smash bros melee without ever dropping from 60fps, only thing I need to make sure I can do since everything else I do is super low spec shit.

wiki.dolphin-emu.org/index.php?title=Super_Smash_Bros._Melee
You can see that a 6200U pulled off 60fps stable with Intel HD 520

So, I have a budget that floats between 200 and 500 depending on the month and I am looking for a thinkpad that can run games like Civ V (which I can run on my ancient toaster with a gt730). Nothing heavy, just some very light gaming that the integrated graphics can handle without much trouble. Any advice?

Attached: ps3_hanging_by_a_thread.jpg (650x484, 103K)

>What specs should I get to be able to emulate super smash bros melee
A gamecube. That or grow up and stop playing games for little kids.

Don't worry about it, I didn't mention it earlier. I think I'm gonna get her a SL510 as she likes and not a X2** as I thought would be better so if she breaks it, it will be only a

>Any advice?
Yes. Grow up and stop playing games like a child.

X230 would be a safer choice

My T430 experiences missing textures after 30 mins or so of Civ V gameplay. Intel HD 4000. So something newer than that.

I'd love the have a custom boot logo but i'm too chicken to do it as (knowing my luck) I'll probably do something wrong and fuck up the whole machine. :'(

Pick up a used T440p for $200 bucks (probably less by now desu). Easy to upgrade in the future as well.

I do mainly use a gamecube but use emulation to play with people online

Is this the correct way to do this, user?

>T440p
not a thinkpad

Yeah will probably go with t440p even though it's around 250 because thinkpads have no business where I live.

Just because your manlet hands can't operate a chiclet keyboard doesn't mean they aren't thinkpads.

Why does coreboot only work on old hardware?
I mean, shouldn't something this fundamental be a top priority for the GNU guys? It seems like a backburner project.

How does it feel like to be a retarded cunt?

What can i do with the expresscard slot on a t430? is it still relevant?

>man
>using a chiclet
HMMMMM

Maybe additional USB ports?
I type with far greater accuracy on the new keyboard because there are gaps between the keys which helps because I have big fingers you retarded nigger

proud of being obese fat boy?

>1080p mod on a T420s
well it looks the same as it did before but only a higher resolution. the mod was in this thread a few years ago; you could buy a module from a guy on the thinkpad forums for idk like 50$ and I expected to be scammed but everything worked out beautifully, it was a bit difficult finding the right monitor but eventually that worked out too

>70kgs is obese
Unironically kys

It is if you're a manlet. I can see why you're lashing out on an anonymous message board. It all makes sense now.

The only manlet here is you, with your tiny dwarf fingers, who is seething because people don't use your classicfag KB

I'm sorry to interject, but what the fuck does height have to do with keyboards, are both of you fucking retarded?

What? I'm 6'2"

KK sells a complete FHD/2K kit on taobao and 51nb afaik
pic related; 2k (left) and FHD (right)

Do you guys use an external DAC/AMP? On a X201, don't know if I'm missing out if I'm not using one of those. Have headphones that don't need to be powered, for reference.

I doubt the T420s can handle 2560x1440 well

According to the users on 51nb that have this in their T420s for some time now, it works just fine.

actually I know it doesn't, I've connected it to my 1440p monitor in the past through DP

Maybe you have one of those crappy i5's like I have or something?

yeah I do..
>Intel i5-2540M (4) @ 3.3GHz

Height only matters to manlets.
t.this guy I'm 6'3" not obese and can use the classic kb no problem

Yeah, but you need 16-bit colors in picture and it must be less than your resolution on 40% percent.

Opinions on Thinkpad A485? I don't want a pozzed Incel chip

What does /tpg/ think about US/China tensions? Does it affect Lenovos?

we don't care about new "thinkpads"

x40 a shit

Attached: shitpad.jpg (3480x4640, 2.68M)

just to let you know, i rebuilt coreboot with the vga bios from skulls (added straight to the config i had) no joy, the seabios boot menu was all garbled colours and couldn't choose the boot disk, think I might try building/flashing a full 12M coreboot from scratch extracting everything from the original bios dump

>coming soon

Yah. Majority of you guys can only afford cum covered old pieces of shit with 30 min battery life and the inability to watch YouTube videos above 480p

Is 1080p screen on 12.5" laptop worth it? I have HD screen now, it looks fine, but I wonder if text rendering is better on 1080p one. What do you think?

How can I ensure none of my time on a thinkpad is wasted?

Self Restraint™

>They've never used a classic keyboard

She's pretty user, a real gem

(You)
Stop being retarded.

Probably not

Hello, Jow Forumsentlemen. It's been a while. Need to find a laptop for my mom. Importance is warranty, weight, connectivity (3 x USB ports are a must) and durability, etc. Most of the work she does is MS Office/Email/etc with a shitload of USB memory sticks, a plug-in numpad and mouse. She does not want a used one. Budget is 1000 Euro.
I wanted to suggest an older thinkpad model and I could refurbish it myself, but it would be a hard sell since I am back only for a holiday. She wants to be able to use the warranty if something happens.
Currently the only ThinkPad you can find at a local tech store is L380 for 800 Euro. If you go to a specialist store X1C, T480/s etc run 1500-3000 Euro.
At the moment she uses a beat up Dell Vostro 1015 (see pic), which is too big and heavy for her. My X230 is a tad small for her. Therefore, I was thinking of a 14" display model. Do you have any ideas?

Attached: vostro1015.jpg (765x490, 48K)

Maybe check for a certified refurbished X1C that comes with a warranty?

Based

finally got my t450, runs great

Weirdest thing just happened.. 3 days ago I ordered a T420s with 900P display at some store in a different city and should receive it today. Even double-checked with the store's employee in chat if it was in stock and really the HD+ display before ordering. "Yes sir, it's in stock and has the 900P display". Great, received it an hour or so ago. Open the box and..

It's a fucking T420 with 768P display. What the goddamn fucking fuck fuck?!?!?

I go again to the stores chat and explain that I ordered and paid for a T420s with 900P screen but got a T420 with a 768P screen and the guy played dumb as he didn't know the difference. So he gave me the phone number of their "servicing" department (they prepare the orders for shipping). So I call them and the guy literary says that "The T420s and the T420 are the same laptop, so what is the problem?"
After me explaining to me that it is not the same laptop (he then went "Oh THAT one, we havent gotten those in stock for over 2 weeks now") and even saying that I wouldn't even whine about it if at least the display was 900P instead of 768P he said "oh come on. 900P, 768P.. the human eye doesn't even notice that difference"

I shit you not.

I hung up and get the shop owners number from another contact and called him. The guy was really nice and understanding, he gave me 2 options;

1: Keep to T420s and get a new 500GB Samsung SSD 860 Evo for free
2: Wait 10 days until they have again stock of the T420s 900P and replace it

Now I'm not sure what to do honestly. they both have the same specs (i5 2520M, 4GB*, 120GB SSD) and I would like to do a FHD mod in the future, so what is the smart thing to do?

I must say that the T420 does look very nice. It looks unused and really mint. No signs of wear/tear, no scratches or anything weird. Came with the 90w charger and battery life of 3 hours when "100%" But that 768P screen is truly just horrible.. Pic related; It's the T420 I received.

*16GB is already ordered 2 days ago BTW

Attached: T420.jpg (992x1176, 427K)

T420 is the better device overall, plus 900p panels aren't that expensive so you can replace it yourself.

I'm new with thinkpads so please don't think I'm trying to be a smartass or something, but what makes the T420 a better device than the T420s?

Generally considered more serviceable since it has a socketed CPU, supports a 9cell battery (Both have an option for a ultrabay batt) and better thermals in general. I can't say the T420s is a bad device for what it is, but i've been using a the bog standard T420 with 768panel for over 4 years now. Device came to me brand new for pennies and the 6cell battery wasn't new but in good shape (Still holds 4hours on either Windows or Arch).

I'd keep it and get some ultrabay stuff for it.

desu I didn't even think about the CPU if it was socketed or not. Good point! Might not need it right now, but it's good to be able to upgrade in a year or so.

Oh, now I really don't know what to do. I wasn't really planning in swapping the display for FHD until after the summer desu. The T420 is nicely/easily upgradeable, but that T420s looks so good too..

1440p x230 mod is fucking great

Attached: IMG_0765.jpg (4032x3024, 1.45M)

Do I need the fingerprint scanner?

No, I've had it for three years and only today did I actually bother to set it up. It's a neat thing but it doesn't really matter and you can buy a replacement palmrest with a fingerprint reader for cheap

did you do it yourself or have it done for you? i'm interested in doing this.

thanks user

I've bought the adapter off taobao and the screen from aliexpress, then took the laptop to a local repair shop.
