Is there actually any keyboard for this thing that DOESN'T suck?
Like how hard can it be to code a keyboard?
I am not an Apple fanboy and I dislike Apple for many reasons but at least their keyboard makes sense. The hit boxes become bigger for letters that would make SENSE that should follow next. Easy and effective letter prediction.
Android keyboards don't recognize simple shit like "don't" "the" "see" or whatever.
The keyboard sets an automatic full stop after a word you have spelled wrong and you want to get rid of the full stop, you delete the full stop and it will also change the correctly auto corrected word back to the gibberish you had typed.
Gboard ALWAYS puts full stops everywhere, so does Swype and if you want to type something with M at a line break it will always assume you hit the backspace key...

AnySoftKeyboard is the best keyboard.
This but unironically
>peck typing
I use fleksy and I only notice it once its not there. This is how software should be.
It's the only good one, which says a lot about the state of keyboards.
I tried a lot of keyboard. The best for me is swiftkey.
Back when i had a full touch phone, i've been using Blackberry Keyboard and i liked it a lot. Huge ass buttons, ctrl for copypaste, i needed nothing more. But i have specific needs, i'm a qwertyfag (now with physical qwerty again) and i never really accepted dictionary-based input methods, so you might not share my tastes. BB keyboard had swype thingy though, so it's still worth checking out.
SwiftKey, just make sure to restrict network access
This. Open source, no ads, doesn't require an internet connection and plenty of customization.
Updoot for SwiftKey
Had z10 for 4 years and it died. Moved to Android and keyboard is shit. Even BB keyboard from playmarket doesn't stand near the perfect keyboard from z10
hacker keyboard.
Simple Keyboaed is much better than AnySoft or Gboard/Swiftkey.
The question is: How many languages do you communicate in? How many keyboards / languages do you have running?
On my old iPhone I had 6 different languages. Swype just can't handle this. As much as I complained about the stock iOS keyboard, toggling between languages is just easy and the way it should be and it gets stuff right.
If you only ever write English then it isn't a problem.
Just like I can't seem to set a language in voice recognition in android. Many many years ago it would understand different languages at once. So I could speak and then say an English movie or song name and it would understand this. The iPhone wasn't able to do this. You had your phone set to English and you wanted to tell Siri to play a Rammstein song and it just wouldn't understand you because you would mix English with German
>Play, Rammstein Du hast
>Siri: Say wot?
While Android used to be fine with mixing languages many years ago it doesn't understand stuff anymore.
I am located in Germany: If I set my language to British English all of a sudden I will only get BRITISH news I do not care about. If I set it to German it won't understand anything English...
Just wish you could make the spacebar a little wider and move the emoji key, but otherwise good
noticed the same thing and its super annoying
>dat last update
Dayumm
Just tried it, it's a piece of shit. Doesn't have any auto correct at all. I just type everything wrong. The most annoying one of them all.
I've tried AnySoftKeyboard before I've created this thread and it sucked so much that I had to create this thread. Even lousy Gboard and Swype does a better job.
I remember aaaaaaaaaaaaages ago I got a HTC Magic. The FIRST Android phone with a screen keyboard and no buttons. Heck the keyboard worked and I can't complain about it.
I had a Galaxy S1 and the Samsung keyboard was also alright. I don't know what changed about keyboards that they are so awful.
Everyone is talking about AI AI AI and auto learning and yet they can't code a keyboard that works?
Really stuff might work if you only type in English but for other languages like GERMAN (just one example) all the keyboards are a pain in the ass.
Example: you want to write in the past
>Ich konnte...
perfectly fine grammar but all keyboards (apple keyboard included) will always turn it into a conditional sentence and CHANGE the grammar so it will become
>ich könnte
They add Umlauts wherever they can even though they make no sense and who wants to write in conditional sentences? Not as common as talking about the past. Localization for keyboards is shit and it's not like German is some weird third world language.
>and it's not like German is some weird third world language.
user, I...
I use fleksy too. I just ised lucky patcher to remove internet permissions and voila
yes
All of them would be fine for me if Arabic typing wasn't so infuriatingly shit or even absent. Gboard is the only good one in that regard, but the language switcher is awful, having to a press a button instead of swiping and it shows a noticeable delay.

this
German is literally english for non retards.
>non free keyer
No one cares about your shit language, Hans
Xperia keyboard is comfy
I didn't try others, but for me, it's SwiftKey. My standards are pretty low though, sensible suggestions for Hungarian, configurable hold delay and easy language switching/mixing sell it for me. They also did the suggestion for Steven Hawkings thing too, IIRC. Not sure if that's a positive, he died using it.
German has all the borrowed Latin roots that English does, is anglicized to hell and back, and then goes on and borrows French words too for good measure. Pretty cucked, imo.
I use the BlackBerry Keyboard apk
I'm in the Swiftkey botnet. It's the only good keyboard.
I gave up with word suggestions and just installed simple keyboard, life is prettier now.
use glide faggot
You could have disabled the automatic period in every android keyboard in the time it took to write your blogpost. That and autocomplete are the first things I disable. Choose suggestions from the top only.
The death of these on flagships is easily the worst thing that ever happened to smartphones.
I use Facemoji. swiftkey is slow af, gboard is good and anysoft is almost GOAT but there are some things like that are absolutely annoying.
It's similar to how, for some inexplicable reason, all companies that aren't apple can't into trackpads. It makes no damned sense.
The only thing I can attribute it to is "checklist effect", the same reason why the dash system in your car sucks donkey balls. It's there to be minimally functional and provide another thing for marketing to print on the box, not to be good.
this, everything else is garbage
>typing in Dune Runes
*cough cough*
I don't want to sound rude, but you fucked up the moment you decided to buy anything else but the Blackberry Keyone. Virtual keyboards will be forever worse than physical ones, deal with it. If you really want to hurt yourself, then at least pick something like
that doesn't kill you.
Still unmatched
It just works
There is nothing wrong with Gboard.
Haha. Dad still hasn't figured out that swipe typing is superior.
Do you swipe type on your desktop computer too?
>tracking anti-privacy device dickwaving over a fucking shitty "typing" solution
Can we fucking ban smartphones yet?
It's over, user. Not even your trips can bring it back.
Just let it die.
do I type on my screen on my desktop computer? Do I hold my desktop computer monitor in my hand? what kind of fucking logic is that. They are not equates. I don't drive my car with my desktop keyboard either.
this one from SwiftKey. botnet free cause blocked by rooted firewall. i tried others but this is the least crappy for me.
No because apple holds patent for dynamic key hit box sizes, that's why iphone keyboard just feels better but you can't really tell why.
There still is one keyboard in play store that somehow survived without being sued but it's abandonware, last update was 6 years ago or so.
Works for me
You can do that. It's not even hard. Check out the source, edit or copy one of the bottom row keyboard, edit its XML, remove the emoji key and increase spacebar's keyWidth.
install the beta
make it bigger
don't be retarded, aka, if an specific word grinds your gears, add it to your personal dictionary, and it will always pop up the first no matter what
ie: nigger words wonderfully well
also you can use the new clipboard feature and pin the shit you always blast here, like pastas
inb4 shill, gboard is fantastic the same as google maps
I honestly pray every day for someone to come up with a better replacement for both, but I guess they are the same as Microsoft Office
wish it had spellchecking...
I'm starting to think samsung cucked me
why the fuck do I not have spellchecking anywhere
Reminder swiftkey is now a Microsoft product
So?
People should use a Firewall.
There's no excuse, rooted or not rooted.
i have been using gboard for years now
Well, why don't you make your own then?
I made my own like 2 years ago and have been using it since then.
What prevents some anonymous guy to make an open source one that just works and release it as an apk then never touch it again?
autism
Don't think many people even know what iphone keyboard is actually doing.
My only problem with android keyboards is that swype is a complete fucking shit. It's the best idea ever but they just couldn't make it work. Is there any way to edit how it works or what words it uses? The "teaching" is completely useless.
>muh swipe
>muh predictions
>muh autocorrect
How about you simply learn to type correctly instead
>hurr durr u kno not how it spelled!!4
I know how it's spelled, but swype is 10x faster except it always offers names, and deleting them doesn't do anything.
Minuum and Touchpal are the best when it comes to word correction, nothing else comes even close.
iphone way with just dynamic hitboxes is superior to all other crap like autocorrect or swipe.
Never claimed you didn't know how to spell, but that you're relying on some program to guide your hand instead of just taking the time to type what you actually want to type and avoid such silliness
As I said, it's much more faster, you don't fully type words on a touchscreen if you have 20+ IQ. My issue is that swype has learning functions but they don't fucking work.
the google keyboard with 'glide typing' is good. only problem i've had is it still inputs spaces after periods after i disabled it. so when I try to type a url it's really annoying
Swiftkey>Minuum>Keyboard 69>Fleksy>Gboard>Swype>FOSS shit.
SwiftKey for years. It's good
I use a Key2. It's like the Key1 but less flamboyant (keys are not glossy).
I like it. Sometimes I use it to ssh into my machines when traveling and it doesn't bother me.
Can you give a reason why?
Will look into it thx m8
