All schools (both K-12 and higher education) that use Google get free unlimited storage, it doesn't have to be a good school. Just one that reaches out to Google to opt-in to the program. It's up to the school if they keep your account enabled or not though.

Go to a college that uses Google for Education and the account they give you will have unlimited storage. The caveats being that any of the Google Admins for the school can see anything in your drive if they care to check, and depending on the policies they set, all of that data can be retained forever in Google Vault even if you delete it.

The legit way would be to become a student and take a class. You can buy accounts from students who have graduated but Google tends to close those without warning. Most community colleges around here are with Microsoft so you'll get only 1tb storage onedrive, might be different for you.

You don't use a service like this as your primary. You use it as a "free" offsite backup, with everything encrypted.

I don't have it through university, rater, I pay $12/month for gsuite business. Sitting at 78 TB of uploaded data with rclone and other tools.
The only limit is 750 gb/day of upload and 10tb/day of download. Free google cloud compute servers are great for uploading shit to there because they have unlimited download at almost a gbps and unlimited upload TO google cloud services, thus google drive. Pic relevant
