I loved my PL-400!
When it died my uncle gave me his old PL-550, the wood on it didn't really match the silver of the rest of the stack, but it sounded nice.

I guess this is the closest thread to /ag/. Shit quality pic from tablet, I'll have to find my camera.

Amps with linear power supplies can be so fucking sexy
I wanted to buy a high-end amp with linear supply just because I find them so sexy. But I figured that the drawbacks wouldn't be worth it in the end.

Attached: a-75_birds_eye_view_front_face.jpg (1278x1061, 652K)

i keep mine near a large picture window that gets pretty cold at night most of the year

I still don't get the point of building something that's "high-end" and then compromising with one of the most important aspects of the product. Fans only makes sense for rack-mounting and in that case a switched supply and class D amp would make more sense anyway.

Old Krell was the stuff that dreams were made of, new Krell feels so fucking meh. Is it because Dan D'agostino left?

Attached: fpb-300-1-krell.jpg (1704x1278, 429K)

I was considering the Bryston 14b3,a fucking sexy amp from a sexy company. But 40+kg of weight would have made it very impractical, 200W of power draw at 1 Watt feels very excessive and could probably heat my small room, and running the risk of hearing the hum of the transformers put me off.

>OK new rule, you can only post gear you own.
But what's the point? We are like 5-10 fags that posts in these threads, so you will just see the same images and posts as usual.
It's more fun to explore and discuss something new

Attached: KuKZSap.jpg (2304x1296, 757K)

But my gear sucks besides my speakers.

Well, speakers are by far the most important thing in a system and will directly affect the amps performance.
Large high-sensitivty speakers with high impedance can get by with a weak amp, weres a small low-sensitivity speaker demands a lot more.

It looks so fucking bad

some of the newer krells were designed to be compact, so people could fit one on a shelf; the fans are of the ultra low noise type and not audible unless theyre faulty

bryston makes many less powerful amps; there is no hum with high-end amps and if there is, the transformer is defective, and bryston has 20 year warranties

if you don't use high resolution, low ohm, low sensitivity speakers, you probably don't need these kinds of amps anyway

It's being called fur, kek
(You'd be surprise)

x530

Yeah, it's fucking horrible, and it's not a cheap cable either. The extra lenght around the speaker is probably a couple of thousand dollars and will just ruin the sound.
>there is no hum with high-end amps and if there is, the transformer is defective
Sure there is, they also tend to be a lot noiser than switched supplies as they radiate more electric and magnetic interference. Also the quality of your mains will effect the amout of hum.

>if you don't use high resolution, low ohm, low sensitivity speakers, you probably don't need these kinds of amps anyway
>high resolution needs power!?
Sure, but it's always nice to have headroom and it's fun to own overkill gear.

i like the look

Attached: a6265a68ddab55093fcf5bb0161ef89c.jpg (3000x1995, 955K)

there's no hum with any amps ive ever used

high resolution, low ohm, low sensitivity speakers need power, but not necessarily 800 to 1000 wpc at 4 ohms as the 14B^3 puts out, not that it wouldn't be nice

Are there any decent buying guides out there for buying speakers? I'm looking to buy some new speakers for pc/multimedia use, but I don't know what to get.

I see a lot of people recommending active studio monitors like JBL LSR305, but together with an audio interface they'd be significantly over my budget of 300€.

Attached: 1540137948726.jpg (1774x1774, 279K)

>there's no hum with any amps ive ever used
There has been with every I've used. Your room is probably not quiet enough or that my mains suck.
Worst was a Luxman amp with an EL-transformer instead of the normal toroidal transformer.

My amplifier lit itself on fire while on the variac. LOL. It’s not damaged but I will finally go through and recap it and test the resistors and if more than a few are bad, replace them too.

Attached: m_jpg.jpg (701x1081, 142K)

your room makes me wanna throw up
how can you come home from a job you clearly hate (as otherwise how would you afford all of this) to a room so bland, so beige, so vacuous of warmth or even personality? When you die, you'll realise you spent your whole life looking at and living in grey.

Neat audio setup though.

These might be the best "computer speakers" under $200, without going Bose or Logitech. Usually on sale used for $150 to $180. Sometimes $100 on craigslist.

I deal with knowing I couldn't do much in an apartment anyway, and I dream of building a home theater out of an unfinished basement, with a french cinema themed lobby area outside.

Its actually a pretty nice set up.

that's fucking cool, and I'm not even a zoomer

It'll do but it sounds good. Big on cassettes and minidisc.

minidisc is the best format. shame it never fully took off.

I am listening to Klipsch RB 51's.

Attached: klipsch-rb-51-lautsprecher-stereo-374.jpg (605x797, 63K)

So since it's an audio thread, I'm going in. I have a Creative X7 and the XM7 speakers, and I'm thinking about replacing them, the catch being that I can't get a pair of speakers which are much bigger, since I hardly have any room to put them in the first place.

I'm looking at:
>KEF Q100
>Q Acoustics 3020i (although may be too deep)
>Cabasse Surf
>Jamo S803

Will I likely hear an improvement, or should I just stick with my Creative ?
Also, am I too mistaken in assuming that most speakers are fine frequency response wise, but aren't necessarily too great distortion-wise ?

Are there really no powered bookshelf/monitors with lineouts? Audioengine's bookshelf are the only ones I can find and those are variable, which I rather not deal with.

micca origin g2 dac/amp+sony mdr 7506

Except for the kefs, they seem much in the same league as what you are using.

Attached: 363.jpg (713x800, 88K)

For understanding purposes, why would you say that the KEF are not in the same league ? And how would you estimate the rest being in the same league, measurements ? Or just looking at the driver specs ?
Also, how would you set the Focal Chord 706 and Focal Aria 905 in comparison ?

>stepped attenuator a best
Digital attenuation a best, then stepped :)

I mean, it's not exactly a comparison with the best and brightest.

A-T VM540ML or Nagaoka MP-200? My 440MLA is too forward.

im trying to establish a reference to the Pioneer which are well known; other reviews, though flaky, suggest the XM7 bass and treble are overemphasized

the speaker itself is okay
