I was pulling your leg mate but thank you I didn't realise it was lacking the codecs by default. they're flagged for removal from gentoo repository though because "gstreamer:1.0 is out" but that isn't anywhere to be found. I'll just use mpv for now

MPC-HC is still maintained, There is MPC-BE if you want regular updates and new features though.

wm4 removed his own commit rights and left. No one kicked him out. Even though some people disagreed with some of his decisions, everyone understood that he did 90% of the work and wanted him to stay. He was just sick of being maintainer, but he still uses mpv and hacks on it for fun.

In input.conf add MBTN_MID cycle fullscreen. By default double clicking with the left mouse button toggles fullscreen as well.

Are you sure you have input.conf in the right location, and that it's input.conf, not input.conf.txt?

Yes. When I paste MBTN_LEFT it works and when I paste MBTN_MID it doesn't.

It's called gst-plugins since over half a decade. I'm surprised the old gstreamer packages are still used in distros. Even wine uses gst-plugins and totem does too. I don't know what you're compiling but totem does not depend on pre-1.0 gstreamer.
