Bump(1/3)

Bump(2/3)

>had one of those little fuckers at work
>they let me keep it because by the time I left it was already obsolete
what happened to the technological jumps?
one year old hardware was the equivalent of 5-10 years now

Because i think this technology is enough for us. We dont need anything new

i'm thinking about buying a gemini. is it ok for linux admin use? is sailfish ok ?

I have one of those; most kickass little gadget ever. Built like a tank too, back in the days when the HP name meant quality.

Good times, man, good times.

Gemini is good with salfish os and linux is meh supported. I suggest you using either sailfish os or android for best experience

I still trying to find a use case for one of those so i can use it everyday

I have a Palm Zire72S with Wifi card and a irda keyboard. Comfy little mobile device.

Attached: IMG_20190526_174222.jpg (3072x1728, 696K)

Thats so nice! Are you still doing any productive things on it?

>linux is meh supported.
How bad is it? I figured it would always be a shitty experience but people stopped talking about it as soon as it actually became available.

No, I stopped using it in 2011 when I switched to an iPod Touch (my first and last Apple device). To be honest I used it as an MP3 player, mobile gaming/picture viewer when I was still using it.

Should fuck around with it again now that PalmArchive and PalmDB are up, can get all kinds of games and cool shit like on-device IDEs for various languages. LispMe is fun to mess with.

ordered an m125 and a new parts T3 because the screen got fucked on my other one

hope the 95LX can run the Psion development kit

Attached: IMG_3928.jpg (3945x1917, 1.72M)

It needs a new battery, the old one hardly lasts an hour now. But thanks for the links, I hadn't heard of those.

Nice collection

Attached: SFOS_.jpg (1920x1440, 1.08M)

I wish they still made nice compact palmtops like that. Unfortunately, that's all tablet market now.
Shit, if they keep the specs shitty they could sell them for next to nothing.

Attached: ZeosPPC.jpg (2503x1994, 1.13M)

are there any small keyboard accessories for phones? i like the gemini phone but it's too expensive for the specs

Sailfish is the best experience for GPDA, agreed.

Debian is usable if you use Openbox or i3. LxQT is okay. SMS works fine. I've had bugs with the calling but it does work. AMA

Attached: GPDA_Debian_.jpg (1920x1440, 799K)

Still waiting on panfrost drivers that should be portable. But I believe the panfrost team just had a release a couple weeks ago?

Attached: GPDA_Debian_Openbox_.jpg (1920x1440, 944K)

Consider the following

Attached: Fxtec-Pro-1-image-2.jpg (1200x900, 197K)

That is pretty nice, I have to admit.

Wish all these small companies trying to make cool niche shit didn't have such gay sounding names, but it looks nice, despite running Android.

I always wanted to have an HP IPAQ back in the day, but they were pretty expensive. That or a Palm Lifedrive. However, I knew someone who dropped their Lifedrive and the mini hard drive inside pretty much toast after that.

Attached: IPAQ LifeDrive.jpg (555x494, 98K)

I am not familiar with this device until now. But seeing Sailfish port already in wild.

Attached: fxtech-sailfish.jpg (692x500, 63K)

yeah the LifeDrive seemed kind of cool and I fucking love microdrives but in the age of cheap 32GB SDHC cards I'd rather just pick up a TX, which I probably unironically will in a few weeks.

>cheap 32GB SDHC cards
That was one big drawback of the Zire72S and other older models that didn't support SDHC. It would only support up to 2gb cards.

can you open some code in an editor and take a picture? I'm curious how much is actually readable? maybe split screen too?

that's what I mainly hate about using the T3 as much as I love it more than anything else in other ways, but you and others with newer devices like the Zire 72 and TX have options:
palmpowerups.com/readarticle.php?article_id=11
back then it was trialware but the author put up a keygen for everything on his site and made it all free, wish more people did that especially with some cool shit like Quartus Forth, I think the HotPaw guy did it too

have the exact same ipaq of the pic. works really well, but cant connect to wifi (wep encryption barely works) sadly my unit works with mini sd cards as storage, and that format is pretty much dead and hard to find. it just have 32mb rom so cant storage much files on it. pretty good device made by HTC.

Bullshit, the Plastic on these old HP palmtops are ready to crack any second due to age.

my friend had a 200LX with cracked hinges way back but my 200LX and 95LX are both alright, as are my OmniBooks that were also made by the Corvallis division from the same materials.

>palmpowerups.com/readarticle.php?article_id=11
Nice, thanks for this. I had no idea.

they'll work with MicroSD converters though

for wireless on devices like that I've considered setting up a WEP access point with no SSID broadcasting to at least keep dumbass neighbors from trying to get into it, doubt there's many wardrivers in my neighborhood.

My 200LX is looks like it's about to crack, it has a stress bulge on the right hinge.
Wouldn't call them tanks, I treat mine like a baby.
I'd love to find one of those Omnibooks that ran on AA batteries, it's been so many years and I haven't spotted a single one.

>doubt there's many wardrivers in my neighborhood
There's no point anymore. Every corner has a Starbucks on it with free wifi.

do the nec mobile pro 7xx series count as a pda?
have one in original box working like charm.

they're pretty nice especially with a full win3.x starter kit with MS Office in ROM, mine's a little beat up though so I haven't used it much.
very true, but there's always that one guy in every thread that will try to remind you.

hell yeah they do, those are MIPS R4K based too aren't they? think the 900s switched to ARM.

exactly. the 20 years old japase battery cell still holds pretty decent charge, a testament of japanese quality. Also, keyboard is excellent, even for today standards

Give me a moment for code and split.
I have keybinds to split windows 50% on each side on Openbox. Works perfectly.

Attached: GPDA_Debian_Terminal_.jpg (1920x1440, 1.07M)

Gitlab related as I have a specific repo for Gemini Sailfish fixes. May be a bit dated to the latest SFOS 3.x release

Attached: GPDA_Debian_Chrome_.jpg (1920x1440, 641K)

What's the name of this cute little fucker? GPDA returns nothing of value on DuckduckGo.

Attached: GPDA_Debian_Split_.jpg (1920x1440, 1.11M)

Noice

How does it feel to type on it?

Any good chinkshit PDAs?
I'm low on cash.

I really love the keyboard since it is closer to a computer keyboard rather than a mobile one in design. No issues with any keys pressing to note.

Attached: GPDA_Closed_.jpg (1920x1440, 903K)

What's the name of this MiniPC/PDA?

Gemini PDA

that is one useless piece of shit

Attached: 1461390858331.jpg (720x540, 25K)

nah, they're able to run pretty much anything that could run on a PC XT with CGA graphics, which is a ton of shit.

useless for useless things Jow Forums loves to do like watching porn and consuming social media yes, but for actual work people did and can still do a lot with them.

There is not chink PDA’s, that’s the good part of it. Either make your own or buy an old one that isn’t much expensive. Dell axim X51 is still usable

Like you, ricerfag

Attached: 98BCB7D1-B218-4046-9470-6F24B1066F20.jpg (683x1024, 208K)

A good Palm or WinCE device is like $50 tops.

>for actual work people did and can still do a lot with them.
jesus dude really? i work and this would be fucking useless to me. maybe i could check and respond to emails at a fucking snails pace? you can't be serious

Attached: average_4chan_user.jpg (400x299, 19K)

what do you do?

i let other guys suck my fat cock for $150. its not as great as it sounds. the guys are usually straight and awkward as fuck. i get ruined by some old guy's teeth like 3 times a week. i have to get hard for this shit and a lot of them want me to cum

So do GPD devices count, or are they too PC

WHAT IS THIS?!?!?!?!?

Last bump(3/3)

They are also PDAs

At which point does a laptop stop being a PDA?

when it doesn’t fit in your pocket
but if you ask me it ultimately just comes down to how it was originally marketed

Yes but they are not so good for typing. But a normal bluetooth keyboard should work.

anyone still using a palm TX around here? my unit has some issues connecting to wpa. I remember that there is an official patch to solve this issue, but I cant find the exact file.
any ideas?

lol when u realize hew is the chad that when into obscurity and somehow hewlet took over

is it this one?
palmdb.net/1485/palm-tx-enterprise-security-upgrade-wpa2/

thank you. that is pretty cool. does mobile data work fine in gnu plus loonix? what about battery and standby and hibernate? is there any weird shit with the distros available? would I be able to install a tiling window manager? if those things work fine I will buy one.

owner of op pic here. improved the package:
-changed mini wi-fi router (more reliable usb port for power), added rubber feet
-shorter ethernet cable
-velcro instead of rubber bands

hi

Attached: I_fell_for_all_the_memes.jpg (959x1280, 125K)

Model on that sony?

vaio p series. mine is the VGN-P610 if you want a specific model code
not sure if I could recommend though

fuck Im gonna end up buying more meme tech :(

Thanks

also reminder that these are use gma 500 graphics which under linux you either have revert to an ancient version of xorg for intel's closed source garbage drivers or you have to live with no 3d accel and garbage opengl performance

pic rel has a gma 950 but has other drawbacks too

Attached: file.png (425x284, 148K)

obligatory "I got on Jow Forums too" device pic

I don’t see the point of running shitnux on a VAIO anyway with all of the proprietary gimmicks they usually have. XP or 7 Embedded still work just fine and you can run older and less bloated applications as well.

I mean none of them are really that good anyway
on the contrary I don't see running windows on one of these since I literally have two separate windows computers that would curb stomp this into the ground for any windows task I would want.

this is my comfy computer anyway. I have something playing on the terminal, comfy headphones (because the speakers are absolutely ass too), writing some comfy code while using dillo to look stuff up

It’s kinda funny because that’s a lot of why I don’t really like Linux on older hardware. With XP I can run some legacy applications I like and have a more authentic experience, while on Linux I’ll do a lot of the same things I do on my other Linux machines but slower.

I shouldn’t be so inflammatory about it though, the pull is all in the form factor and whatever gets you the best utilization of it is all that matters. I just see so many people who seem to think you absolutely have to run a GNU/Linux of some kind when either will do many of the same things just as well.

yeah I'm not bashing you for running windows either. I just dont know what I would do with a windows machine this slow.
and yeah youre right running linux on hardware this old is a pain. I didnt go through the downgrading xorg for closed source drivers thing so Im stuck on the opensource drivers. not only does anything using opengl runs horribly, the drivers also break shit like xbacklight so good fucking luck. I personally wrote a substitute in c using xrandr just so I could have working backlight controls

oh and a quick tip if you (or anyone reading this) decides to pull the trigger on these, swap the garbage tier 1.8" hdd for a msata drive. it is so shit that fucking tab completion in the terminal will lag if you spam it too much. a simple ZiF to msata adapter should do the trick.

C'mon anons, what are you doing in this thread? It's a Planet Gemini running Sailfish.

Give back your Psions 3c immediately.

Here everyone:

OP, how's the experience of owning a GPDA? I almost got one while still at Indiegogo but the moneys had to be used elsewhere in an emergency.
>how's the keyboard feel? I found my old Psion 5mx to be a bit mushy
>is dual/triple boot feasible or useful (android+Linux+Sailfish)?
>how limited /buggy is Sailfish? There's only Sailfish Only Community Edition for it, amirite?
>Were the later manufacturing batches better than the original runs? Is it worth to be a backer just to get an inferior product?
Meaning, I'm drooling for a Cosmo.

Why haven't I heard of this before?

Threw Palm m505 and Palm V away a couple of years ago.
No regrets, never liked Palm. I always was a Windows Mobile guy.

Unironically would buy but I'd have no idea what to do with it.

Reminds me of my old Lifebook though

>wallpaper
kek

>shorter ethernet cable
the poor thing looks like it wants to die

What does this mean?

Let's say I wanted to build the cheapest PDA possible (buying an used one isn't an option, the monkeys that live in my third-world shithole don't even know what a PDA is), would a RPi Zero run Raspbian well enough?

>the monkeys that live in my third-world shithole
I know what you mean user, I live in Canada too.

>play dopewars
based boomer

Maybe, but it sounds like whatever you’re going to try hacking together is going to be a shitty experience regardless.

Phones are the new PDAs, only now called phones cause you can make calls from your PDAs.

And they’re also locked down tracking devices with shitty design and developer culture.
