I have patiently waited for so long for the day that an AMD chip would once again outperform Intel's best offering. Zen 1 and Zen+ came semi-close to parity, and thus became competitive with the pricing, but now it has finally happened.

AMD has greater overall performance for half the price, Intel can't compete. 12 cores in the shitty $80 AM4 motherboard I bought is now possible. Unlikely I'd do it, but it can now be done.

chiplet binning and incentivizing people to buy the 3900X. If it were like the current gen Threadripper situation (more cores, slower clocks) then there's no reason for gamers to buy it.

probably easier for them to find two high performing 6 core chiplets vs a perfect 8 core chiplet.

all in all, chiplets allow for greater product variability, no longer are disabled cores automatically worse.
